ଆୟୁର୍ଵିତ୍ତଂ ଗୃହଚ୍ଛିଦ୍ରଂ ମଂତ୍ରମୌଷଧସଂଗମୌ |
ଦାନମାନାଵମାନାଶ୍ଚ ନଵ ଗୋପ୍ୟା ମନୀଷିଭିଃ ||
A wise person keeps these nine things only to one's self as secrets, including one's age, how much money one has, house matters, sacred sayings, making of medicinal drugs, one's private life, how much money one gave to charity and his humiliation.
ଶୋକୋ ନାଶୟତେ ଧୈର୍ୟଂ ଶୋକୋ ନାଶୟତେ ଶ୍ରୁତମ |
ଶୋକୋ ନାଶୟତେ ସର୍ଵଂ ନାସ୍ତି ଶୋକୋସମୋ ରିପୁଃ ||
Grief destroys one’s courage. It destroys one’s learning. It destroys one’s everything. There is no enemy greater than grief. [Context: These are the words of Kausalya. She had spoken harsh words to Dasratha for sending Rama to the forests. She repents and says that she spoke thus because of her intense grief on Rama being sent to the forests]
ଦେଶେ ଦେଶେ କଲତ୍ରାଣି ଦେଶେ ଦେଶେ ଚ ବାଂଧଵାଃ |
ତଂ ତୁ ଦେଶଂ ନ ପଶ୍ୟାମି ୟତ୍ର ଭ୍ରାତା ସହୋଦରଃ ||
One may have wives and relatives in every country but one cannot have a brother like Lakshmana in every place. [Context: Rama’s words of sorrow when Lakshmana becomes unconscious in the battle field struck by the spear of Indrajit.]
ଶ୍ରୀମନ କୃପାଜଲନିଧେ କୃତସର୍ଵଲୋକ ସର୍ଵଜ୍ଞ ଶକ୍ତ ନତଵତ୍ସଲ ସର୍ଵଶେଷିନ | ସ୍ଵାମିନ ସୁଶୀଲ ସୁଲଭାଶ୍ରିତ ପାରିଜାତ ଶ୍ରୀଵେଂକଟେଶଚରଣୌ ଶରଣଂ ପ୍ରପଦ୍ୟେ || Oh Lord of maha Lakshmi! You are an ocean of mercy. You pervade all universes. You are the witness to all things happenings and You are aware of everything. You are omnipotent. You are the ultimate and residual entity of everything. You come to the rescue of those, who call out to You in their states of utter helplessness. You serve as the boon-granting PaarijAthA tree to those, who surrender themselves at Your sacred feet.
ସତ୍ୟଂ ଵଦ | ଧର୍ମଂ ଚର | ସତ୍ୟାନ୍ନ ପ୍ରମଦିତଵ୍ୟମ | ଧର୍ମାନ୍ନ ପ୍ରମଦିତଵ୍ୟମ | କୁଶଲାନ୍ନ ପ୍ରମଦିତଵ୍ୟମ | ଭୂତ୍ୟୈ ନ ପ୍ରମଦିତଵ୍ୟମ | ସ୍ଵାଧ୍ୟାୟପ୍ରଵଚନାଭ୍ୟାଂ ନ ପ୍ରମଦିତଵ୍ୟମ | ଦେଵ ପିତୃକାର୍ୟାଭ୍ୟାଂ ନ ପ୍ରମଦିତଵ୍ୟମ | ମାତୃଦେଵୋ ଭଵ | ପିତୃଦେଵୋ ଭଵ | ଅତିଥିଦେଵୋ ଭଵ | ଆଚାର୍ୟଦେଵୋ ଭଵ | Always speak the truth and follow the dharma (righteousness). Hold on to truth and dharma. Hold on to welfare activities. Acquire wealth legitimately. Hold on to self-study and teaching. Hold on to the worship and rituals of God, parents and ancestors. Look upon your Mother, Father, Teacher and Guest as living Gods.
ନିଂଡାର ରାଜୁ ନିଦ୍ରିଂଚୁ ନିଦ୍ରୟୁନୋକଟେ ଅଂଡନେ ବଂଟୁ ନିଦ୍ର - ଅଦିୟୁ ନୋକଟେ | ମେଂଡୈନ ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣୁଡୁ ମେଟ୍ଟୁ ଭୂମିୟୋକଟେ ଚଂଡାଲୁଡୁଂଡେଟି ସରିଭୂମି ୟୋକଟେ || ବ୍ରହ୍ମ ମୋକଟେ ପର ବ୍ରହ୍ମ ମୋକଟେ || The sleep that a king gets is one and the same as that a servent gets. The floor or the earth that a learned scholar steps on is one and the same as that a person from lower caste steps on. The consciousness in everyone is one and the same and there is only one divine consciousness.
ନାନାଚ୍ଛିଦ୍ର ଘଟୋଦର ସ୍ଥିତ ମହାଦୀପ ପ୍ରଭାଭାସ୍ଵରଂ ଜ୍ଞାନଂ ୟସ୍ୟତୁ ଚକ୍ଷୁରାଦିକରଣ ଦ୍ଵାରା ବହିସ୍ପଂଦତେ | ଜାନାମୀତି ତମେଵ ଭାଂତମନୁଭାତ୍ୟେତତ୍ସମସ୍ତଂଜଗତ ତସ୍ମୈ ଶ୍ରୀ ଗୁରୁମୂର୍ତୟେ ନମ ଇଦଂ ଶ୍ରୀ ଦକ୍ଷିଣାମୂର୍ତୟେ || Like the light emanating from a lamp, kept in a pot with many holes, goes out in all directions, similarly the wisdom in the person goes out through the openings in the body, such as mouth, ears, eyes, etc. And when that person realizes that 'I know myself', this whole universe shines after Him alone, who shines in the consciousness as the knower. Salutation to the God facing the south, who is the greatest teacher.
ନ ପୁଣ୍ୟଂ ନ ପାପଂ ନ ସୌଖ୍ୟଂ ନ ଦୁଃଖଂ ନ ମନ୍ତ୍ରୋ ନ ତୀର୍ଧଂ ନ ଵେଦା ନ ୟଜ୍ଞଃ | ଅହଂ ଭୋଜନଂ ନୈଵ ଭୋଜ୍ୟଂ ନ ଭୋକ୍ତା ଚିଦାନଂଦ ରୂପଃ ଶିଵୋହଂ ଶିଵୋହମ || Sin or merit can never touch me. I feel no pleasure; I feel no pain. No magic chants empower me. No mystic places purify me. I am not the dogma nor the doctrines, nor even the sacred fire of pilgrims. I am neither the experiencer (subject), nor the experienced (object), nor the experiencing. I am supreme bliss and pure consciousness, I am Shiva, I am all auspiciousness, I am Shiva.
ୟାଵେଳ ୟମଦୂତଲାଗ୍ରହଂବୁନ ଵଚ୍ଚି, ପ୍ରାଣମୁଲ ପେକଲିଂଚି ପଟ୍ଟୁନପୁଡୁ କଫ ଵାତ ପୈତ୍ୟମୁଲ ଗପ୍ପଗା ଭ୍ରମଚେତ, ଗଂପ ମୁଦ୍ଭଵମଂଦି କଷ୍ଟପଡୁଚୁ ନା ଜିହ୍ଵତୋ ନିନ୍ନୁ ନାରାୟଣା ୟଂଚୁ, ବିଲୁତୁନୋ ଶ୍ରମଚେତ ବିଲୁଵନୋ ନାଟି କିପ୍ପୁଡେ ଚେତୁ ନୀ ନାମଭଜନ, ତଲଚେଦନୁ ଜେଵି ନିଡଵୟ୍ୟ ଧୈର୍ୟମୁଗନୁ Oh Narasimha, at the time of my death, when the messengers of Yama (King of death) arrive, while they take away my life, I will be under the illusion and suffering from imbalances in kapha, vata and pitta, three Ayurvedic states. At that time, Oh Lord, I am not sure if I will I be able to say your name with my tongue or if I cannot say with difficulty. So I will chant your name right now when I am in conscious state and please listen to my prayer.
ସତୁଲକୈ କୋନ୍ନାଳ୍ଳାସ୍ଥିକୈ ସୁତୁଲକୈ କୋନ୍ନାଳ୍ଳୁ ଧନ ତତୁଲକୈ ତିରିଗିତି ନୟ୍ୟ ତ୍ୟାଗରାଜାପ୍ତ ଇଟୁଵଂଟି ଦୁଡୁକୁ ଗଲ ନନ୍ନେ ଦୋର କୋଡୁକୁ ବ୍ରୋଚୁରା ଏଂତୋ ଦୁଡୁକୁ ଗଲ ନନ୍ନେ ଦୋର I spent all my time on women, money that does not last long, and for children and wealth. Oh beloved of Tyagaraja! which prince will come to rescue a person like me?
ଓଂ ଈଶା ଵାସ୍ୟମିଦଗ୍‍ମ ସର୍ଵଂ ୟତ୍କିଂଚ ଜଗତ୍ଵାଂ ଜଗତ | ତେନ ତ୍ୟକ୍ତେନ ଭୁଂଜୀଥା ମା ଗୃଧଃ କସ୍ୟସ୍ଵିଦ୍ଧନମ || All things of this world are transitory, the evanescent, are enveloped by the Lord who is the real reality of each. Therefore, they have to be used with reverent renunciation, without covetousness or greed for they belong to the Lord and not to any one person.
ତ୍ରୟୀ ସାଙ୍ଖ୍ୟଂ ୟୋଗଃ ପଶୁପତିମତଂ ଵୈଷ୍ଣଵମିତି ପ୍ରଭିନ୍ନେ ପ୍ରସ୍ଥାନେ ପରମିଦମଦଃ ପଥ୍ୟମିତି ଚ | ରୁଚୀନାଂ ଵୈଚିତ୍ର୍ୟାଦୃଜୁକୁଟିଲ ନାନାପଥଜୁଷାଂ ନୃଣାମେକୋ ଗମ୍ୟସ୍ତ୍ଵମସି ପୟସାମର୍ଣଵ ଇଵ || The different practices based on the three Vedas, SaMkhya, Yoga, Pashupata-mata, Vaishnava-mata etc. are but different paths (to the Greatest Truth) and people on account of their different aptitude choose from them based on whatever they think best. But as the sea is the final resting place for all types of streams, You are the only reaching place for all people whichever path, straight or zigzag, they may accept.
ସତ୍ୟପି ଭେଦାପଗମେ ନାଥ ତଵା‌உହଂ ନ ମାମକୀନସ୍ତ୍ଵମ | ସାମୁଦ୍ରୋ ହି ତରଂଗଃ କ୍ଵଚନ ସମୁଦ୍ରୋ ନ ତାରଂଗଃ || O Lord! Even though there is no difference between us (I am a part of You), I belong to You and not vice-versa. Just like the ocean is made of waves but the waves are not made up of ocean.
ଦଂତଂବୁଲ ପଡନପ୍ପୁଡେ, ତନୁଵୁନଂଦାରୂଢି ୟୁନ୍ନପ୍ପୁଡେ କାଂତାସଂଘମୁ ରୋୟନପ୍ପୁଡେ, ଜରାକ୍ରାଂତଂବୁ ଗାନପ୍ପୁଡେ ଵିଂତଲ୍ମେନ ଜରିଂଚନପ୍ପୁଡେ, କୁରୁଲ୍ଵେଲ୍ଲେଲ୍ଲ ଗାନପ୍ପୁଡେ ଚିଂତିଂପନ୍ଵଲେ ନୀପଦାଂବୁଜମୁଲନ ଶ୍ରୀ କାଳହସ୍ତୀଶ୍ଵରା! Oh Eeswara, while one did not lose his teeth, while one did not lose strength in his body, while the ladies don't disgust one's old looks, while one has not become weak with old age, while one did not lose charm and shine in the body, while one's hair did not turn grey, he should think about serving your divine feet.
ଵିଶ୍ଵଂଦର୍ପଣ ଦୃଶ୍ୟମାନ ନଗରୀ ତୁଲ୍ୟଂ ନିଜାଂତର୍ଗତଂ ପଶ୍ୟନ୍ନାତ୍ମନି ମାୟୟା ବହିରିଵୋଦ୍ଭୂତଂ ୟଧାନିଦ୍ରୟା | ୟସ୍ସାକ୍ଷାତ୍କୁରୁତେ ପ୍ରଭୋଧସମୟେ ସ୍ଵାତ୍ମାନମେ ଵାଦ୍ଵୟଂ ତସ୍ମୈ ଶ୍ରୀଗୁରୁମୂର୍ତୟେ ନମ ଇଦଂ ଶ୍ରୀ ଦକ୍ଷିଣାମୂର୍ତୟେ || Similar to the image of a town as seen in the mirror, when one sees the image of the world within him, the world appears as if it is outside. It is similar to his seeing due to illusion, during the state of sleep, that the one real fact appears as many different truths, and he realizes, when he wakes up and sees the reality, that he is really the one and only one soul. Salutation to the God facing the south, who is the greatest teacher.
ବନ୍ଧୁରାତ୍ମାତ୍ମନସ୍ତସ୍ୟ ୟେନାତ୍ମୈଵାତ୍ମନା ଜିତଃ | ଅନାତ୍ମନସ୍ତୁ ଶତ୍ରୁତ୍ଵେ ଵର୍ତେତାତ୍ମୈଵ ଶତ୍ରୁଵତ || For a person who has conquered his senses (lower self) by the divine self, his own self acts as his best friend. But for that person who has not conquered his senses (lower self), his own self acts as his worst enemy.
ଅଥୋ ନିଷ୍ଟ୍ୟା ଵିତସ୍ୟାନ୍ତେ ନାଭ୍ୟାମୁପରି ତିଷ୍ଟତି | ଜ୍ଵାଲମାଲାକୁଲଂ ଭାତି ଵିଶ୍ଵସ୍ୟାୟତନଂ ମହତ || Below the Adam's apple, at a distance of a span, and above the navel (i.e., the heart which is the relative seat of the manifestation of Pure Consciousness in the human being), effulges the Great Abode of the universe, as if adorned with garlands of flames.
ଵୂରକୁନ୍ନ ଜୀଵୁନିକି ଵୋକ୍କୋକ୍କ ସ୍ଵତଂତ୍ରମିଚ୍ଚି | କୋରେଟି ଅପରାଧାଲୁ କୋନ୍ନି ଵେସି | ନେରକୁଂଟେ ନରକମୁ ନେରିଚିତେ ସ୍ଵର୍ଗମଂଟୂ | ଦୂରୁଵେସେଵିଂତେକାକ ଦୋଷମେଵ୍ଵରିଦୟ୍ୟା || You give freedom to everyone to perform their actions. You also let them do crimes with the given freedom. You offer heaven to the realized men and hell to the unrealized. Is this the fault of the ignorant men who didn't realize your true self?
ମନୋ ବୁଧ୍ୟହଂକାର ଚିତ୍ତାନି ନାହଂ ନ ଚ ଶ୍ରୋତ୍ର ଜିହ୍ଵା ନ ଚ ଘ୍ରାଣନେତ୍ରମ | ନ ଚ ଵ୍ୟୋମ ଭୂମିର-ନ ତେଜୋ ନ ଵାୟୁଃ ଚିଦାନଂଦ ରୂପଃ ଶିଵୋହଂ ଶିଵୋହମ || I am not mind, intellect, ego and the memory. I am not the sense of organs(ears, tongue, nose, eyes and skin). I am not the five elements ( sky or ether, earth, light or fire, the wind and the water). I am supreme bliss and pure consciousness, I am Shiva, I am all auspiciousness, I am Shiva.
ଶିଵାୟ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁରୂପାୟ ଶିଵରୂପାୟ ଵିଷ୍ଣଵେ | ଶିଵସ୍ୟ ହୃଦୟଂ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁଃ ଵିଷ୍ଣୋଶ୍ଚ ହୃଦୟଂ ଶିଵଃ || Shiva is a form (roopa) of Vishnu and Vishnu is a form of Shiva, Shiva is the heart of Vishnu and Vishnu is the heart of Shiva and there is no difference between the two, thus declaring the Adwaita (non-dual) nature of one God.
ୟାଵଦ୍ଵିତ୍ତୋପାର୍ଜନ ଶକ୍ତଃ ତାଵନ୍ନିଜପରିଵାରୋ ରକ୍ତଃ | ପଶ୍ଚାଜ୍ଜୀଵତି ଜର୍ଜର ଦେହେ ଵାର୍ତାଂ କୋ‌உପି ନ ପୃଚ୍ଛତି ଗେହେ || As long as one is fit and able to earn and support one's family, all the kith and kin and dependents attached are affectionate to him. As soon as one becomes old and infirm, no one cares to enquire of his well-being even in one's own home.
ଆତ୍ମା ତ୍ଵଂ ଗିରିଜା ମତିଃ ସହଚରାଃ ପ୍ରାଣାଃ ଶରୀରଂ ଗୃହଂ ପୂଜା ତେ ଵିଷୟୋପଭୋଗରଚନା ନିଦ୍ରା ସମାଧିସ୍ଥିତିଃ | ସଞ୍ଚାରଃ ପଦୟୋଃ ପ୍ରଦକ୍ଷିଣଵିଧିଃ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରାଣି ସର୍ଵା ଗିରୋ ୟଦ୍ୟତ୍କର୍ମ କରୋମି ତତ୍ତଦଖିଲଂ ଶମ୍ଭୋ ତଵାରାଧନମ || O Shiva, you are my soul, Godess paarvati is my reason, my five senses are your attendants and my body is your home. All the pleasures of my senses are objects to your worship. My sleep is your meditation. Wherever I walk I am walking around You. Everything I say is your prayer and everything I do is in devotion to You.
କର୍ମଣ୍ୟେଵାଧିକାରସ୍ତେ ମା ଫଲେଷୁ କଦାଚନ | ମା କର୍ମଫଲହେତୁର୍ଭୂଃ ମା ତେ ସଙ୍ଗୋସ୍ତ୍ଵକର୍ମଣି || One has the right to work, but never to the fruit of the work. One should never engage in action for the sake of reward, nor should one long for inaction.
ଲାଲୟେତ ପଞ୍ଚଵର୍ଷାଣି ଦଶଵର୍ଷାଣି ତାଡୟେତ |
ପ୍ରାପ୍ତେ ତୁ ଷୋଡଶେ ଵର୍ଷେ ପୁତ୍ରଂ ମିତ୍ରଵଦାଚରେତ ||
One should treat his children with love and care until they are 5 years old Of all the medicinal potions the most important is amrutham (ambrosia-elixir) which invigorates you back to life. Eating good food is the best of all types of material happiness. Of all the sense organs the eye is most important and of all the parts of the body, the head is the vital one.
ଉରଶା ଶିରସା ଦୃଷ୍ଟ୍ୟା ମନସା ଵଚସା ତଥା |
ପଦ୍ଭ୍ୟାଂ କରାଭ୍ୟାଂ କର୍ଣାଭ୍ୟାଂ ପ୍ରଣାମୋ‌உଷ୍ଟାଙ୍ଗମୁଚ୍ୟତେ ||
When one offers his salutations to Lord, he should touch his chest, head, eyes, mouth, heart, both of his legs, both of his hands and both of his ears to the ground. Only then will it be called "Sashtanga Namaskaram", which is namaskaram (salutations) with all organs of the body.
ସର୍ଵୌଷଧୀନାମ ଅମୃତଂ ପ୍ରଧାନଂ
ସର୍ଵେଷୁ ସୌଖ୍ୟେଷ୍ଵଶନଂ ପ୍ରଧାନମ |
ସର୍ଵେନ୍ଦ୍ରିୟାଣାଂ ନୟନଂ ପ୍ରଧାନମ
ସର୍ଵସ୍ୟ ଗାତ୍ରସ୍ୟ ଶିରଃ ପ୍ରଧାନମ ||

ୟଦ୍ୟଦ୍ଵୈ ତତ୍ର ଦୁଃଖଂ ଵ୍ୟଥୟତି ନିତରାଂ ଶକ୍ୟତେ କେନ ଵକ୍ତୁଂ
କ୍ଷନ୍ତଵ୍ୟୋ ମେ‌உପରାଧଃ ଶିଵ ଶିଵ ଶିଵ ଭୋ ଶ୍ରୀ ମହାଦେଵ ଶମ୍ଭୋ ||
Due to the remnants of Karmic sins, I was created inside my mother’s womb, and placed between urine, excreta and heat, and suffered a lot by the heat and smell. Who can possibly describe the suffering and pain that I underwent there in mother's womb?. Therefore, O Siva! O Mahadeva! O Sambhu! Forgive me, I pray, for my transgressions.
ପାନୀୟଂବୁଲୁ ତ୍ରାଵୁଚୁନ କୁଡୁଚୁଚୁନ ଭାଷିଂଚୁଚୁନ ହାସ ଲୀ
ଲା ନିଦ୍ରାଦୁଲୁ ଚେୟୁଚୁନ ତିରୁଗୁଚୁନ ଲକ୍ଷିଂପୁଚୁନ ସଂତତ |
ଶ୍ରୀ ନାରାୟଣ ପାଦ ପଦ୍ମ ୟୁଗଳୀ ଚିଂତାମୃତାସ୍ଵାଦସଂ
ଧାନୁଂଡୈ ମରଚେନ ସୁରାରି ସୁତୁଡେତଦ୍ଵିଶ୍ଵମୁନ ଭୂଵରା ||
Oh! King, Prahlada was always engrossed in the bliss of praying and prostrating before the lotus feet of Sri Hari at all times, while drinking, while eating, while talking, while smiling, playing, sleeping and performing such other actions, while moving around and while visualizing and forgot about this world. [Context: This beautiful sloka describes devotion of Prahlada who is one with the consciousness at all times and in all activites.]
ଵେଦମୂଲମିଦଂ ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଂ
ଭାର୍ୟାମୂଲମିଦଂ ଗୃହମ |
କୃଷିମୂଲମିଦଂ ଧାନ୍ୟମ
ଧନମୂଲମିଦଂ ଜଗତ ||
Knowledge is the root for a learned man, wife is central to a house, effort and agriculture is the root for food and money is central to the entire world.
ସୁଲଭାଃ ପୁରୁଷା ରାଜନ ସତତଂ ପ୍ରିୟ ଵାଦିନଃ |
ଅପ୍ରିୟସ୍ୟ ଚ ପଥ୍ୟସ୍ୟ ଵକ୍ତା ଶ୍ରୋତା ଚ ଦୁର୍ଲଭଃ ||
Oh King, it is easy to get a person that always says words that please you. However, it is very difficult to find someone who can say something that may be unpleasant to hear but is brings welfare to you. [Context: Demon Mareecha says this to Ravana, when Ravana approaches Mareecha to help him to take Sita away and he is angry that Mareecha refused to help him initially.]
ରାମୋ ଵିଗ୍ରହଵାନ ଧର୍ମଃ ସାଧୁଃ ସତ୍ୟ ପରାକ୍ରମଃ |
ରାଜା ସର୍ଵସ୍ୟ ଲୋକସ୍ୟ ଦେଵାନାମ ଇଵ ଵାସଵଃ ||
Rama is an embodiment of righteousness. Truth is his braveness. He is the lord of all worlds and everybody. [Context: Demon Mareecha says this to Ravana, when Ravana approaches Mareecha to help him to take Sita away. Mareecha says that Rama is nothing but righteousness and truth and warns him not to go to Rama and that Ravana is not enough to face him.]
ନାହଂ ଜାନାମି କେୟୂରେ ନାହଂ ଜାନାମି କୁଂଡଲେ |
ନୂପୁରେ ତୁ ଅଭିଜନାମି ନିତ୍ୟଂ ପାଦ ଅଭିଵଂଦନାତ ||
I cannot recognize these armlets and I cannot recognize these earrings. However I do recognize these anklets, as I see them everyday when I offer my respect at sister-in-law (Sita)'s feet.
