ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರ ಮರ್ದಿನೀ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಂ is a powerful hymn to the Goddess as the destroyer of Mahishasura, the buffalo-demon who represents brute arrogance, violence, and shape-shifting ego. Its rhythmic refrain ಜಯ ಜಯ ಹೇ ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರಮರ್ದಿನಿ celebrates Devi as beauty, strength, protection, and the victorious energy of ಧರ್ಮ.
In many living devotional traditions the hymn is sung in connection with ಆದಿ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯ, while its historical attribution is discussed in different ways. Read in the Shankara tradition, the hymn is not merely battle-poetry; it is praise of ಶಕ್ತಿ, the divine power without which no transformation is possible. Shankara's broader devotional works show that Advaita does not reject divine form; worship can purify the mind and make it ready for the recognition of the highest truth.
The hymn belongs to the Devi stotra tradition and is closely connected in theme to the ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ. It praises the Goddess as protector of the worlds, destroyer of demonic tendencies, nourisher of devotees, radiant source of the gods' power, and compassionate refuge of the helpless.
These concepts explain victory as inner and outer restoration of dharma. ಮರ್ದಿನೀ is the divine power that crushes arrogance and violence, not out of cruelty but to protect the world. ಜಗದಂಬಾ keeps that power maternal and compassionate, while ದೈತ್ಯ-ಸಂಹಾರ also points to the destruction of our own anger, pride, and confusion. ಅಭಯ, ಶಕ್ತಿ, and ಶರಣಾಗತಿ together show the devotee's path: take refuge, receive courage, and act with disciplined strength for what is right.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory, victory to you, O daughter of the mountain, delighter of the earth and universe, dweller on the Vindhya peak, delight of Vishnu, praised by Indra, belonging to Shiva's family, mother of all, beautiful mountain-born crusher of Mahishasura.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The first verse establishes Devi's range through names: ಗಿರಿನಂದಿನಿ makes her Parvati, ವಿಶ್ವವಿನೋದಿನಿ makes her the delight of the cosmos, and ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರಮರ್ದಿನಿ makes her the destroyer of arrogant violence. The refrain joins beauty, motherhood, and fierce protection.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ praises her as ಯಾ ದೇವೀ ಸರ್ವಭೂತೇಷು ಶಕ್ತಿರೂಪೇಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥಿತಾ, the power abiding in all beings. This verse's many locations and relationships express that same universality: Devi is mountain-born, cosmic, Vaishnava, Shaiva, and victorious.
For daily life, start by naming the force you need: steadiness, delight, protection, or courage. The verse teaches that strength need not be harsh and beauty need not be weak. A balanced person can be gentle with dependents and firm against injustice.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to you who shower blessings on the gods, subdue the unconquerable, remove impurity, nourish the three worlds, delight Shiva, and dry up the pride of hostile demonic forces.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The important compound is ದುರ್ಮದಶೋಷಿಣಿ, she who dries up corrupt pride. ಪೋಷಿಣಿ and ಮೋಷಿಣಿ stand together: she nourishes what is wholesome and removes what is impure. Devi's fierceness is not cruelty; it is the protective correction of disorder.
The Gita says ಅಭಯಂ ಸತ್ತ್ವಸಂಶುದ್ಧಿಃ, placing fearlessness and purity at the head of divine qualities. This verse asks Devi to create exactly that: courage without arrogance and purity without weakness.
In daily conduct, nourish good tendencies and dry up bad ones before they grow. Encourage truth, discipline, and kindness in yourself and your team; do not feed pride, gossip, or cruelty. Protection begins with what we allow to grow.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
O Mother of the world, my Mother, lover of the kadamba grove, smiling one who dwells on the high Himalayan peaks, honey-sweet destroyer of Madhu and Kaitabha, victory to you who delights in divine play.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
ಜಗದಂಬಾ and ಮದಂಬಾ move from cosmic mother to personal mother. The verse then balances sweetness, ಮಧುಮಧುರಾ, with demon-destroying power, ಮಧುಕೈಟಭಗಂಜಿನೀ. Devi is approachable without losing majesty.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ calls her ಸರ್ವಮಂಗಲಮಾಂಗಲ್ಯೇ ಶಿವೇ ಸರ್ವಾರ್ಥಸಾಧಿಕೇ, auspicious and able to accomplish all worthy aims. This verse's smile, grove, mountain, and battle victory all show that auspiciousness can include tenderness and strength.
A wholesome life needs both sweetness and boundaries. Be warm in relationships, but do not let affection become permission for harm. A good parent, leader, or friend protects joy by confronting what destroys it.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the lion-riding Goddess whose own powerful arms shatter the heads, trunks, and proud elephant-like forces of the enemy in battle.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The verse uses extreme battle imagery: ಖಂಡ, cutting; ವಿದಾರಣ, tearing; ಪರಾಕ್ರಮ, valor. These images are meant to show decisive force against hardened ಅಧರ್ಮ, not ordinary anger.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ prays ರೂಪಂ ದೇಹಿ ಜಯಂ ದೇಹಿ ಯಶೋ ದೇಹಿ ದ್ವಿಷೋ ಜಹಿ, asking for victory and the removal of hostility. Here the same prayer becomes vivid: the enemy is what threatens ಧರ್ಮ, outwardly and inwardly.
In daily life, some problems need gentle correction; others need decisive action. Addiction, exploitation, dishonesty, and abuse do not disappear through vague goodwill. Courage means confronting them with clarity, lawful action, and self-control.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess who bears the gods' irresistible power, wisely directs even Shiva as messenger, and brings an end to sinful, evil-minded demonic arrogance.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
This verse emphasizes strategy, not only force. ಚತುರವಿಚಾರ is skillful deliberation, while ದುರಾಶಯ and ದುರ್ಮತಿ name the inner roots of harmful action. Devi destroys not just enemies but the thinking that produces them.
The Gita says ದೈವೀ ಹ್ಯೇಷಾ ಗುಣಮಯೀ ಮಮ ಮಾಯಾ ದುರತ್ಯಯಾ, divine power is difficult to cross without surrender. The verse shows that even divine warriors act through Devi's ಶಕ್ತಿ, so ego cannot claim victory independently.
When facing conflict, do not rely on force alone. Diagnose the bad idea, incentive, or habit behind the visible problem. Good leadership combines courage with strategy, and spiritual maturity begins by correcting the intention before it becomes action.

ತಿಗ್ಮ-ಕರೇ - sharp-handed, fierce-handed
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the refuge-giving Mother who grants fearlessness, wields the pure trident against hostile forces, and fills the heavens with the resounding drums of victory.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The word ಶರಣಾಗತ changes the emotional center of the battle. Devi is fierce against harm but protective toward the one who seeks refuge. ಅಭಯ, fearlessness, is her gift to the vulnerable, not a license for aggression.
The Gita's promise ಮಾ ಶುಚಃ, do not grieve, follows surrender in ಮಾಮೇಕಂ ಶರಣಂ ವ್ರಜ. This verse presents the Mother as that refuge: when one turns sincerely, divine protection becomes a source of courage.
Practically, be the kind of strong person with whom others feel safe. Use authority to protect, not intimidate. In family and society, courage is proven by how we treat those who come to us in fear.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess whose very cry destroys Dhumralochana, who dries up the blood-seed of Raktabija in battle, and who defeats Shumbha and Nishumbha amid the fierce hosts.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The demons named here symbolize different patterns: smoky perception, multiplying negativity, and paired arrogance. ಶೋಣಿತಬೀಜ is especially psychological: every drop of anger or craving can seed more of itself unless the source is stopped.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ narrates these battles in detail and repeatedly praises Devi's presence with ಯಾ ದೇವೀ ಸರ್ವಭೂತೇಷು ಬುದ್ಧಿರೂಪೇಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥಿತಾ. Wisdom is needed because some problems multiply when attacked carelessly.
In daily life, notice Raktabija-patterns: one lie needing more lies, one angry message producing a chain, one indulgence multiplying into habit. Stop feeding the seed. Pause, name the pattern, and choose a response that does not create the next demon.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess whose flashing limbs, bow, quiver, warriors, and fourfold army move in brilliant battle order against the forces of adharma.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
This stanza is about organization. ಚತುರಂಗ-ಬಲ, the fourfold army, suggests disciplined deployment; ರಣಕ್ಷಣ is the critical moment when readiness matters. Devi's victory is not random fury but ordered strength.
The Gita teaches ಯೋಗಃ ಕರ್ಮಸು ಕೌಶಲಂ, yoga is skill in action. The verse's military coordination is a devotional image of that skill: power succeeds when it is disciplined, timely, and aligned with ಧರ್ಮ.
Success in daily work also needs organized force. Prepare tools, train people, clarify roles, and act at the right moment. Energy without coordination exhausts; disciplined energy protects and accomplishes.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess who delights in celestial dance, expressive movement, eager song, and the powerful rhythms of drums resounding in devotion.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
After battle imagery, this verse turns to rhythm. The syllables ತತಥೇಯಿ, ಧುಧುಕುಟ, and ಧಿಂಧಿಮಿತ are sonic devotion; they make the body, voice, and drum participate in praise.
The Upanishadic idea ರಸೋ ವೈ ಸಃ, the Supreme is rasa, sacred essence or delight, helps us read this stanza. Devi is not only the end of fear; she is the rhythm that restores joy after fear is conquered.
A healthy life needs rhythm: work, rest, prayer, movement, music, and celebration. Do not make discipline joyless. Let wholesome art, song, and movement renew courage and bind communities together.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the universally praised Goddess, worthy of repeated japa, whose anklets ring with enchanting sound and who delights in dance, drama, and beautiful song.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
ಜಪ್ಯ means fit for repetition, and ಶಬ್ದ points to sacred sound. The verse treats sound itself as worship: mantra, anklet, music, and praise all become ways the mind is gathered around Devi.
The Gita says ಯಜ್ಞಾನಾಂ ಜಪಯಜ್ಞೋಽಸ್ಮಿ, among sacrifices I am the sacrifice of japa. This verse makes that teaching audible through the Goddess's own rhythm and the devotee's repeated ಜಯ.
Use repetition to train attention. Repeated complaints make the mind bitter; repeated gratitude makes it strong. A daily mantra, a disciplined affirmation, or a repeated ethical commitment can steady the heart when life is noisy.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the mountain-born Goddess whose captivating beauty delights noble minds, whose moon-like face shines, and whose lovely eyes draw bee-like devotion.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The repetition of ಸುಮನಃ and ಭ್ರಮರ creates a garland of sound. ಸುಮನಃ can mean good mind, flower, or divine being; the verse suggests that pure minds naturally turn toward Devi's beauty.
The ಲಲಿತಾ ಸಹಸ್ರನಾಮ praises the Mother as ಚಿದಗ್ನಿಕುಂಡಸಂಭೂತಾ, born from the fire of consciousness. Her beauty is therefore not superficial; it is the radiance of consciousness that attracts refined minds.
Train your mind to be ಸುಮನಃ, good-minded. Seek beauty that elevates rather than agitates: noble speech, clean surroundings, uplifting art, and relationships that make virtue easier.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess who is present in heroic battle and also in blossoming groves, surrounded by attendants and adorned with the grace of tender red leaves and flowers.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
This verse fuses battlefield and forest. ಮಲ್ಲ gives the energy of struggle, while ವಲ್ಲಿಕಾ, ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾ, and ಪಲ್ಲವ give softness and blossoming. Devi's world contains both discipline and beauty.
The Gita's divine qualities include ಅಹಿಂಸಾ ಸತ್ಯಂ ಅಕ್ರೋಧಃ, non-injury, truth, and freedom from anger, yet the Gita is taught on a battlefield. Likewise, this verse does not glorify violence; it sanctifies courage governed by beauty and restraint.
In life, do hard things without becoming hard-hearted. Compete fairly, defend what is right, and still preserve appreciation for nature, art, and human tenderness. Strength and grace should grow together.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the royal daughter, ornament of the three worlds, ocean of beauty and treasure of arts, whose majesty surpasses intoxicated royal elephants and enchants every refined mind.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The elephant image suggests royal power, while ರೂಪಪಯೋನಿಧಿ, ocean of beauty, suggests inexhaustible grace. The verse praises majesty without separating it from refinement, art, and attraction toward the noble.
The Gita says ದ್ಯೂತಂ ಚಲಯತಾಮಸ್ಮಿ ತೇಜಸ್ತೇಜಸ್ವಿನಾಮಹಂ, recognizing divine splendor even in powerful capacities when understood rightly. Devi's majesty here is a reminder that power itself must be traced back to the sacred.
When you hold influence, make it beautiful through manners, restraint, and cultural refinement. Raw power impresses briefly; dignified power earns trust. Let authority become an ornament to the world, not a burden on it.

ಅಲಿಕುಲ-ಸಂಕುಲ - crowded with bees
ಕುವಲಯ-ಮಂಡಲ - circle of blue lotuses
ಮೌಲಿ-ಮಿಲತ್-ಬಕುಲಾಲಿ-ಕುಲೇ - crowned or surrounded with bakula blossoms and bees
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess of lotus-pure tenderness, abode of graceful arts, surrounded by playful swans, bees, blue lotuses, and fragrant blossoms.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
Here Devi is contemplated through refined natural beauty. ಕಮಲದಲ, ಕಲಹಂಸ, ಕುವಲಯ, and ಬಕುಲ are not random ornaments; they train the mind toward purity, movement, fragrance, and harmony.
The ಚಾಂದೋಗ್ಯ ಉಪನಿಷದ್ phrase ಸರ್ವಂ ಖಲ್ವಿದಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ helps us read such beauty contemplatively: the world can become a doorway to Brahman when seen without grasping. Devi's beauty turns perception into reverence.
Practice noticing beauty without possessing it. A clean desk, a flower, a kind face, or well-made work can refine the mind. Such attention reduces coarseness and makes daily success more humane.

ಕರ-ಮುರಳೀ-ರವ - flute sound from the hand
ವೀಜಿತ-ಕೂಜಿತ - whose sound surpasses or stirs cooing
ಲಜ್ಜಿತ-ಕೋಕಿಲ - making cuckoos feel shy

ಮಹಾಶಬರೀ-ಗಣ - great groups of forest devotees
ಸದ್ಗುಣ-ಸಂಭೃತ-ಕೇಳಿತಲೇ - playground filled with good qualities
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the charming Mother whose music humbles the cuckoo, whose presence delights mountain groves and forest devotees, and whose playfield is filled with noble qualities.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
This verse honors the Goddess beyond polished royal settings. ಪುಲಿಂದ and ಶಬರೀಗಣ bring forest communities into the circle of devotion. Devi's music reaches refined and rustic spaces alike.
The Gita says ವಿದ್ಯಾವಿನಯಸಂಪನ್ನೇ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣೇ ಗವಿ ಹಸ್ತಿನಿ ... ಪಂಡಿತಾಃ ಸಮದರ್ಶಿನಃ, the wise see with equal vision. This stanza's inclusive landscape points toward that equality: the Mother is not confined to elite spaces.
Let success widen respect. Do not measure people's worth by education, accent, income, or social polish. A Devi-centered life listens for goodness in unexpected places and honors sincere devotion wherever it appears.

ಜಿತ-ಕನಕಾಚಲ - surpassing the golden mountain
ಕುಂಜರ-ಕುಂಭ-ಕುಚೇ - breasts like the frontal globes of elephants, a classical poetic image of abundance
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess clothed in yellow silk, outshining moonlight, whose toenails flash with rays from the crown-jewels of bowing gods and asuras, and whose form surpasses golden mountains in splendor.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The verse uses classical beauty imagery, but its devotional center is humility: both ಸುರ and ಅಸುರ bow, and the light of their crown jewels shines at her feet. Her beauty reverses pride into reverence.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ praises her as ನಾರಾಯಣೀ ನಮೋಽಸ್ತು ತೇ, repeatedly bowing to the Mother in many forms. The crowns here show that power becomes purified when it bends before the sacred.
In daily life, achievement should bow to values. Degrees, titles, wealth, and beauty are crown-jewels; they become auspicious only when placed at the feet of humility, service, and moral discipline.

ಸುರತಾರಕ-ಸಂಗರ-ತಾರಕ - savior in the battle of the gods
ಸೂನು-ಸುತೇ - O daughter, child of the mountain lineage
ಸುರಥ-ಸಮಾಧಿ - King Suratha and the merchant Samadhi
ಸಮಾನ-ಸಮಾಧಿ - granting deep concentration or shared absorption
ಸುಜಾತ-ರತೇ - delighting in noble birth or noble arising
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Victory to the Goddess praised by the thousand-rayed sun, savior of the gods in battle, and gracious to devotees like Suratha and Samadhi who sought refuge in her.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The names ಸುರಥ and ಸಮಾಧಿ recall the ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ, where a king and a merchant, both wounded by worldly loss, receive instruction and worship the Goddess. The hymn connects cosmic victory with personal spiritual healing.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ concludes their story by showing that devotion to the Mother grants both worldly restoration and higher wisdom. That dual blessing fits this verse: Devi helps different seekers according to their maturity and need.
When life strips away status or security, do what Suratha and Samadhi did: seek wisdom, not only recovery. Loss can become a doorway to clearer values, better discipline, and deeper refuge.

ತವ - your
ಪದಮೇವ - the very feet; the very state
ಪರಂಪದಂ - supreme state
ಅನುಶೀಲಯತಃ - for one who practices or contemplates repeatedly
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
O compassionate, auspicious lotus-goddess, how can one who worships your lotus feet daily fail to become lotus-like? For one who contemplates your feet as the supreme goal, what blessing is impossible?
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The verse shifts from battle to ಉಪಾಸನಾ. ಪದ-ಕಮಲ means lotus feet, and ಪರಂಪದಂ means the supreme goal. Devi's feet become both refuge and destination.
The Gita says ಮನ್ಮನಾ ಭವ ಮದ್ಭಕ್ತೋ, make the mind devoted and absorbed. This verse gives the Devi form of that absorption: daily contemplation of the Mother's feet slowly reshapes identity.
Choose a daily anchor. A person becomes what they serve repeatedly. If you serve anger, you become angry; if you serve wisdom, compassion, and discipline, your mind becomes lotus-like even in muddy circumstances.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Those who worship you with golden vessels and sacred waters may gain heavenly joys, but I make your feet my refuge, O one praised by the gods; may that refuge be auspicious.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
This verse distinguishes ritual splendor from surrender. ಕನಕ and ಕಲಶ show rich worship, but the speaker's decisive prayer is ತವ ಚರಣಂ ಶರಣಂ ಕರವಾಣಿ: I take refuge at your feet.
The Gita's ಸರ್ವಧರ್ಮಾನ್ ಪರಿತ್ಯಜ್ಯ ಮಾಮೇಕಂ ಶರಣಂ ವ್ರಜ makes refuge the heart of spiritual life. Devi worship here points in the same direction: offerings are meaningful when they culminate in surrender.
Do rituals, donations, and public service with sincerity, but do not let them replace inner refuge. The most valuable offering is a life that actually turns toward truth, compassion, and self-mastery.

ಶಿವ-ನಾಮ-ಧನೇ - in the wealth of Shiva's name
ಭವತೀ - a poetic or tantric phrase in praise of the Divine Mother's beauty, power, or grace
ಕೃಪಯಾ - with compassion
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Your pure moon-like face draws all beauty together; by your grace, what could be denied to one whose true wealth is the name of Shiva?
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The verse is dense and poetic, but ಶಿವನಾಮಧನೇ is its spiritual center: the name of Shiva is wealth. Devi's grace makes sacred remembrance more valuable than celestial approval.
The ಕೈವಲ್ಯ ಉಪನಿಷದ್ says ಶ್ರದ್ಧಾಭಕ್ತಿಧ್ಯಾನಯೋಗಾದವೈಹಿ, know through faith, devotion, and meditation. This stanza moves from outer beauty to inner wealth, the wealth of divine name and remembrance.
Ask what wealth cannot be taken from you. Reputation may change and possessions may pass, but practiced devotion, disciplined character, and a truthful name endure. Invest in that inner treasury every day.

Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
O Uma, Mother of the world, be gracious to me with compassion for the helpless. As you truly are, please do what is fitting here and remove this terrible distress.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The final prayer is simple: ದೀನದಯಾಲುತಾ, compassion toward the helpless, and ದುರುತಾಪ-ಅಪಾಕರಣ, removal of severe suffering. After all the grandeur, the devotee stands as a child before the Mother.
The ದೇವೀ ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಂ says ಶರಣಾಗತ-ದೀನಾರ್ತ-ಪರಿತ್ರಾಣ-ಪರಾಯಣೇ, she is devoted to protecting the surrendered, poor, and distressed. This verse directly echoes that mood of refuge.
When you are overwhelmed, pray plainly and act responsibly. Ask for help, take the next right step, and let compassion move through you toward others in distress. The Mother is honored when her children become less cruel and more responsive.
ಇತಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರಮರ್ದಿನಿ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಮ್ ॥
Word Meanings (ಪದಾರ್ಥ):
ಇತಿ - thus
ಶ್ರೀ - auspicious, revered
ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರಮರ್ದಿನಿ - contextual word sense: the revered hymn to the crusher of Mahishasura
ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಂ - hymn of praise
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣಂ - complete, implied by the closing
Translation (ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ):
Thus concludes the revered Mahishasura Mardini Stotram.
Commentary (ಅನುಸಂಧಾನ):
The closing seals the hymn's movement from cosmic praise to personal refuge. ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರಮರ್ದಿನಿ remains the final name: the Mother is remembered as the one who crushes the buffalo-like stubbornness of ಅಧರ್ಮ.
The Gita's phrase ಧರ್ಮಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪನಾರ್ಥಾಯ ಸಂಭವಾಮಿ ಯುಗೇ ಯುಗೇ helps summarize the hymn's spirit: divine power appears to restore ಧರ್ಮ. In Devi's form, that restoration is maternal, fierce, beautiful, and compassionate.
After recitation, identify one Mahishasura-pattern to work on: stubborn ego, anger, laziness, or misuse of power. Victory becomes real when the hymn changes conduct, decisions, and the way we protect others.
