saundarya laharī was composed by Adi Shankaracharya and stands as one of the great Shakta stotrams. Its first portion is often called ānanda laharī, the wave of bliss, and the rest unfolds as a wave of divine beauty. The text praises Devi as the inseparable power of Shiva, the source of mantra, yantra, grace, beauty, knowledge, and liberation.
Traditional narratives say Shankaracharya received the opening portion through divine grace at Kailasa and composed or completed the remaining verses as praise of the Mother. Whether read historically or symbolically, the context matters: the hymn presents Shankara not only as a philosopher of non-duality but also as a devotee of the Divine Mother.
