ശ്രീ മഹിഷാസുര മര്ദിനീ സ്തോത്രമ് is a powerful hymn to the Goddess as the destroyer of Mahishasura, the buffalo-demon who represents brute arrogance, violence, and shape-shifting ego. Its rhythmic refrain ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി celebrates Devi as beauty, strength, protection, and the victorious energy of ധര്മ.

Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory, victory to you, O daughter of the mountain, delighter of the earth and universe, dweller on the Vindhya peak, delight of Vishnu, praised by Indra, belonging to Shiva's family, mother of all, beautiful mountain-born crusher of Mahishasura.
സുരവരവര്ഷിണി ദുര്ധരധര്ഷിണി ദുര്മുഖമര്ഷിണി ഹര്ഷരതേ
ത്രിഭുവനപോഷിണി ശംകരതോഷിണി കല്മഷമോഷിണി ഘോരരതേ । [കില്ബിഷ-, ഘോഷ-]

Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to you who shower blessings on the gods, subdue the unconquerable, remove impurity, nourish the three worlds, delight Shiva, and dry up the pride of hostile demonic forces.
അയി ജഗദംബ മദംബ കദംബവനപ്രിയവാസിനി ഹാസരതേ
ശിഖരി ശിരോമണി തുംഗഹിമാലയ ശൃംഗനിജാലയ മധ്യഗതേ ।
മധുമധുരേ മധുകൈടഭഗംജിനി കൈടഭഭംജിനി രാസരതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 3 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
O Mother of the world, my Mother, lover of the kadamba grove, smiling one who dwells on the high Himalayan peaks, honey-sweet destroyer of Madhu and Kaitabha, victory to you who delights in divine play.
അയി ശതഖംഡ വിഖംഡിതരുംഡ വിതുംഡിതശുംഡ ഗജാധിപതേ
രിപുഗജഗംഡ വിദാരണചംഡ പരാക്രമശുംഡ മൃഗാധിപതേ ।
നിജഭുജദംഡ നിപാതിതഖംഡ വിപാതിതമുംഡ ഭടാധിപതേ [-ചംഡ]

Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the lion-riding Goddess whose own powerful arms shatter the heads, trunks, and proud elephant-like forces of the enemy in battle.
അയി രണദുര്മദ ശത്രുവധോദിത ദുര്ധരനിര്ജര ശക്തിഭൃതേ
ചതുരവിചാരധുരീണ മഹാശിവ ദൂതകൃത പ്രമഥാധിപതേ ।
ദുരിതദുരീഹ ദുരാശയ ദുര്മതി ദാനവദൂത കൃതാംതമതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 5 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess who bears the gods' irresistible power, wisely directs even Shiva as messenger, and brings an end to sinful, evil-minded demonic arrogance.
അയി ശരണാഗത വൈരിവധൂവര വീരവരാഭയദായകരേ
ത്രിഭുവന മസ്തക ശൂലവിരോധി ശിരോധികൃതാമല ശൂലകരേ ।
ദുമിദുമിതാമര ദുംദുഭിനാദ മഹോ മുഖരീകൃത തിഗ്മകരേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 6 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the refuge-giving Mother who grants fearlessness, wields the pure trident against hostile forces, and fills the heavens with the resounding drums of victory.
അയി നിജഹുംകൃതിമാത്ര നിരാകൃത ധൂമ്രവിലോചന ധൂമ്രശതേ
സമരവിശോഷിത ശോണിതബീജ സമുദ്ഭവശോണിത ബീജലതേ ।
ശിവ ശിവ ശുംഭ നിശുംഭ മഹാഹവ തര്പിത ഭൂത പിശാചരതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 7 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess whose very cry destroys Dhumralochana, who dries up the blood-seed of Raktabija in battle, and who defeats Shumbha and Nishumbha amid the fierce hosts.
ധനുരനുസംഗ രണക്ഷണസംഗ പരിസ്ഫുരദംഗ നടത്കടകേ
കനക പിശംഗ പൃഷത്കനിഷംഗരസദ്ഭട ശൃംഗ ഹതാവടുകേ ।
കൃതചതുരംഗ ബലക്ഷിതിരംഗ ഘടദ്ബഹുരംഗ രടദ്ബടുകേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 8 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess whose flashing limbs, bow, quiver, warriors, and fourfold army move in brilliant battle order against the forces of adharma.
സുരലലനാ തതഥേയി തഥേയി കൃതാഭിനയോദര നൃത്യരതേ
കൃത കുകുഥഃ കുകുഥോ ഗഡദാദികതാല കുതൂഹല ഗാനരതേ ।
ധുധുകുട ധുക്കുട ധിംധിമിത ധ്വനി ധീര മൃദംഗ നിനാദരതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 9 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess who delights in celestial dance, expressive movement, eager song, and the powerful rhythms of drums resounding in devotion.
ജയ ജയ ജപ്യ ജയേ ജയ ശബ്ദപരസ്തുതി തത്പര വിശ്വനുതേ

Victory to the universally praised Goddess, worthy of repeated japa, whose anklets ring with enchanting sound and who delights in dance, drama, and beautiful song.

ശ്രിത രജനീ രജനീ രജനീ രജനീ രജനീകര വക്ത്രവൃതേ ।

Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the mountain-born Goddess whose captivating beauty delights noble minds, whose moon-like face shines, and whose lovely eyes draw bee-like devotion.
സഹിത മഹാഹവ മല്ലമ തല്ലിക മല്ലിത രല്ലക മല്ലരതേ
വിരചിത വല്ലിക പല്ലിക മല്ലിക ഭില്ലിക ഭില്ലിക വര്ഗ വൃതേ ।
സിതകൃത ഫുല്ലസമുല്ലസിതാരുണ തല്ലജ പല്ലവ സല്ലലിതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 12 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess who is present in heroic battle and also in blossoming groves, surrounded by attendants and adorned with the grace of tender red leaves and flowers.
അവിരലഗംഡഗലന്മദമേദുര മത്തമതംഗജ രാജപതേ
ത്രിഭുവനഭൂഷണ ഭൂതകലാനിധി രൂപപയോനിധി രാജസുതേ ।
അയി സുദതീജന ലാലസമാനസ മോഹനമന്മഥ രാജസുതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 13 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the royal daughter, ornament of the three worlds, ocean of beauty and treasure of arts, whose majesty surpasses intoxicated royal elephants and enchants every refined mind.
കമലദലാമല കോമലകാംതി കലാകലിതാമല ഭാലലതേ
സകലവിലാസ കളാനിലയ ക്രമകേലിചലത്കലഹംസകുലേ ।
അലികുല സംകുല കുവലയ മംഡല മൌലിമിലദ്ഭകുലാലി കുലേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 14 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess of lotus-pure tenderness, abode of graceful arts, surrounded by playful swans, bees, blue lotuses, and fragrant blossoms.
കരമുരളീരവ വീജിത കൂജിത ലജ്ജിതകോകില മംജുമതേ
മിലിത പുലിംദ മനോഹര ഗുംജിത രംജിതശൈല നികുംജഗതേ ।
നിജഗുണഭൂത മഹാശബരീഗണ സദ്ഗുണസംഭൃത കേളിതലേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 15 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the charming Mother whose music humbles the cuckoo, whose presence delights mountain groves and forest devotees, and whose playfield is filled with noble qualities.
കടിതടപീത ദുകൂലവിചിത്ര മയൂഖതിരസ്കൃത ചംദ്രരുചേ
പ്രണതസുരാസുര മൌളിമണിസ്ഫുര ദംശുലസന്നഖ ചംദ്രരുചേ ।
ജിതകനകാചല മൌളിപദോര്ജിത നിര്ഭരകുംജര കുംഭകുചേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 16 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess clothed in yellow silk, outshining moonlight, whose toenails flash with rays from the crown-jewels of bowing gods and asuras, and whose form surpasses golden mountains in splendor.
വിജിത സഹസ്രകരൈക സഹസ്രകരൈക സഹസ്രകരൈകനുതേ
കൃത സുരതാരക സംഗരതാരക സംഗരതാരക സൂനുസുതേ ।
സുരഥസമാധി സമാനസമാധി സമാധി സമാധി സുജാതരതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 17 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Victory to the Goddess praised by the thousand-rayed sun, savior of the gods in battle, and gracious to devotees like Suratha and Samadhi who sought refuge in her.
പദകമലം കരുണാനിലയേ വരിവസ്യതി യോഽനുദിനം സ ശിവേ
അയി കമലേ കമലാനിലയേ കമലാനിലയഃ സ കഥം ന ഭവേത് ।
തവ പദമേവ പരംപദമിത്യനുശീലയതോ മമ കിം ന ശിവേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 18 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
O compassionate, auspicious lotus-goddess, how can one who worships your lotus feet daily fail to become lotus-like? For one who contemplates your feet as the supreme goal, what blessing is impossible?
കനകലസത്കല സിംധുജലൈരനുസിംചിനുതേ ഗുണരംഗഭുവം
ഭജതി സ കിം ന ശചീകുചകുംഭ തടീപരിരംഭ സുഖാനുഭവമ് ।
തവ ചരണം ശരണം കരവാണി നതാമരവാണി നിവാസി ശിവം
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 19 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Those who worship you with golden vessels and sacred waters may gain heavenly joys, but I make your feet my refuge, O one praised by the gods; may that refuge be auspicious.
തവ വിമലേംദുകുലം വദനേംദുമലം സകലം നനു കൂലയതേ
കിമു പുരുഹൂത പുരീംദുമുഖീ സുമുഖീഭിരസൌ വിമുഖീക്രിയതേ ।
മമ തു മതം ശിവനാമധനേ ഭവതീ കൃപയാ കിമുത ക്രിയതേ
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 20 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Your pure moon-like face draws all beauty together; by your grace, what could be denied to one whose true wealth is the name of Shiva?
അയി മയി ദീനദയാലുതയാ കൃപയൈവ ത്വയാ ഭവിതവ്യമുമേ
അയി ജഗതോ ജനനീ കൃപയാസി യഥാസി തഥാഽനുഭിതാസിരതേ ।
യദുചിതമത്ര ഭവത്യുരരി കുരുതാദുരുതാപമപാകുരു തേ [മേ]
ജയ ജയ ഹേ മഹിഷാസുരമര്ദിനി രമ്യകപര്ദിനി ശൈലസുതേ ॥ 21 ॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
O Uma, Mother of the world, be gracious to me with compassion for the helpless. As you truly are, please do what is fitting here and remove this terrible distress.
