শিবাষ্টকম্

Meaning:
“I bow to Lord Shiva –
the supreme master, the giver of life, the all-powerful,
the Lord of the universe, the Lord of all lords,
the source of happiness for the joyful,
the ruler of the past, present, and future,
the Lord of all beings,
who is pure, kind, and full of bliss.
I worship that great Lord, Ishana (Shiva).”

Commentary:
This verse is a beautiful and humble prayer to Lord Shiva, recognizing Him as the source of life, joy, time, and everything that exists. It’s not just a praise of His greatness, but also a personal connection—saying, “You are everything, and I worship You with my heart.”

গলে রুংডমালং তনৌ সর্পজালং মহাকাল কালং গণেশাদি পালম্ ।
জটাজূট গংগোত্তরংগৈর্বিশালং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 2॥

Meaning:
“He wears a garland of skulls around His neck,
has snakes on His body,
is more powerful than even time or death,
and protects Ganesha and the other gods.
The river Ganga flows from His matted hair,
and His form is grand and majestic.
I worship Lord Shiva,
who is pure, kind, full of bliss, and the supreme Lord.”

Commentary:
This verse praises Shiva’s powerful yet compassionate form. Though He looks fierce—with skulls, snakes, and wild hair—He is full of love, kindness, and divinity. He is the Lord who goes beyond death, protects the gods, and blesses the Earth with the holy Ganga.

মুদামাকরং মংডনং মংডযংতং মহা মংডলং ভস্ম ভূষাধরং তম্ ।
অনাদিং হ্যপারং মহা মোহমারং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:
“I worship Lord Shiva,
who is the source of happiness,
beautifully adorned and one who adorns others,
the lord of the vast universe,
and who wears sacred ash as His decoration.
He has no beginning,
He is infinite,
and He destroys the illusion that binds the world.
He is pure, benevolent, blissful, and the Supreme Lord.”

Commentary:
This verse praises Shiva as the ultimate source of joy, the remover of illusion, and the eternal ruler of the cosmos — simple in appearance (with ash as His adornment), yet beyond all limits.

বটাধো নিবাসং মহাট্টাট্টহাসং মহাপাপ নাশং সদা সুপ্রকাশম্ ।
গিরীশং গণেশং সুরেশং মহেশং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:
“I worship Lord Shiva,
who lives under the sacred banyan tree,
whose mighty laughter shakes the universe,
who destroys even the greatest sins,
and who always shines with divine light.

He is the Lord of the mountains,
the leader of celestial beings,
the Lord of the gods,
and the greatest of all lords.
He is pure, kind, blissful, and the Supreme Being.”

This verse highlights both Shiva’s greatness and His simplicity—He is a powerful destroyer of sin, ruler of gods, yet lives peacefully under a tree, shining with wisdom and light.

গিরীংদ্রাত্মজা সংগৃহীতার্ধদেহং গিরৌ সংস্থিতং সর্বদাপন্ন গেহম্ ।
পরব্রহ্ম ব্রহ্মাদিভির্-বংদ্যমানং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 5 ॥

Meaning:
“I worship Lord Shiva,
who has taken half of His body as Goddess Pārvatī (Ardhanārīśvara),
who lives on Mount Kailāsa,
and who is a shelter to everyone in trouble.

He is the Supreme Truth (Parabrahma),
honored and worshipped even by Brahmā and the other gods.
He is pure, kind, blissful, and the supreme divine Lord.”

Commentary:
This verse praises Shiva as both powerful and compassionate — the perfect union of masculine and feminine (Ardhanārī), the Supreme Being beyond all gods, and the ever-present refuge for those in pain.

কপালং ত্রিশূলং করাভ্যাং দধানং পদাংভোজ নম্রায কামং দদানম্ ।
বলীবর্ধমানং সুরাণাং প্রধানং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 6 ॥

Meaning:
“I worship Lord Shiva,
who holds a skull and a trident in His hands,
who blesses those who bow at His feet with the fulfillment of their desires,
who rides on His sacred bull Nandi,
and who is the chief of all gods.
He is pure, merciful, full of bliss, and the Supreme Lord.”

Commentary:
This verse beautifully shows Lord Shiva as both fierce and compassionate — holding symbols of power, yet ready to bless anyone who approaches Him with a humble heart.

শরচ্চংদ্র গাত্রং গণানংদপাত্রং ত্রিনেত্রং পবিত্রং ধনেশস্য মিত্রম্ ।
অপর্ণা কলত্রং সদা সচ্চরিত্রং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 7 ॥

Meaning:
“I worship Lord Shiva,
whose body is as radiant and calm as the autumn moon,
who is a source of joy to the ganas,
who has three eyes and is pure,
who is the friend of Kubera, the god of wealth,
the husband of Goddess Aparṇā (Pārvatī),
and who is always righteous and noble in character.
He is pure, blissful, kind, and the Supreme Lord.”

Commentary:
This verse praises Shiva as beautiful, joyful, wise, righteous, and deeply connected with both divine beings and devotees. He is the ideal combination of gentle radiance and supreme wisdom.

হরং সর্পহারং চিতা ভূবিহারং ভবং বেদসারং সদা নির্বিকারং।
শ্মশানে বসংতং মনোজং দহংতং, শিবং শংকরং শংভু মীশানমীডে ॥ 8 ॥

Meaning:
“I worship Lord Shiva,
the destroyer of evil,
who wears snakes,
wanders in cremation grounds,
and is the essence of all knowledge (Vedas).

He is unchanging, eternal, and beyond the world’s illusions.
He resides in graveyards to show fearlessness and detachment,
and He burns away all desires, like those of Kāma (the god of love).
He is pure, blissful, and the supreme Lord.”

Commentary:
This verse beautifully brings out the fierce yet freeing aspect of Lord Shiva — one who teaches detachment, burns away ego and desires, yet remains the peaceful core of all knowledge and truth.

স্বযং যঃ প্রভাতে নরশ্শূল পাণে পঠেত্ স্তোত্ররত্নং ত্বিহপ্রাপ্যরত্নম্ ।
সুপুত্রং সুধান্যং সুমিত্রং কলত্রং বিচিত্রৈস্সমারাধ্য মোক্ষং প্রযাতি ॥

Meaning:
“Whoever recites this precious hymn to Lord Shiva (the one who holds the trident)
early in the morning with devotion,
will gain great blessings in this life —

such as a good son, wealth and food, noble friends, and a loving spouse.
And by worshiping Lord Shiva with sincere devotion,
that person will finally attain moksha (liberation).”

Commentary:
This final verse tells us the benefits of reciting this beautiful stotra — it brings blessings in life and leads the soul to liberation.
