ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಉಪಯಾತಾನಾಂ ಸುದೃಶಾಂ ಕುಸುಮಾಯುಧಬಾಣಪಾತವಿವಶಾನಾಮ್ ।
ಅಭಿವಾಂಛಿತಂ ವಿಧಾತುಂ ಕೃತಮತಿರಪಿ ತಾ ಜಗಾಥ ವಾಮಮಿವ ॥1॥
Meaning
ಉಪಯಾತಾನಾಂ - who had come; ಸುದೃಶಾಂ - the beautiful women; ಕುಸುಮಾಯುಧ- - (whom) Cupid's; ಬಾಣ-ಪಾತ- - arrows strike; ವಿವಶಾನಾಂ - (had made) helpless; ಅಭಿವಾಂಛಿತಂ - desire; ವಿಧಾತುಂ - to fulfil; ಕೃತಮತಿಃ-ಅಪಿ - having decided though; ತಾಃ ಜಗಾಥ - to them spoke; ವಾಮಂ-ಇವ - unfavourable like;
Translation
Thou had decided to fulfil the desire of the beautiful women who had come to Thee. They were helpless as they were struck by Cupid's arrow for Thee. Yet Thou first spoke to them in an unfavourable manner.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಗಗನಗತಂ ಮುನಿನಿವಹಂ ಶ್ರಾವಯಿತುಂ ಜಗಿಥ ಕುಲವಧೂಧರ್ಮಮ್ ।
ಧರ್ಮ್ಯಂ ಖಲು ತೇ ವಚನಂ ಕರ್ಮ ತು ನೋ ನಿರ್ಮಲಸ್ಯ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ್ಯಮ್ ॥2॥
Meaning
ಗಗನ-ಗತಂ - waiting in the skies; ಮುನಿ-ನಿವಹಂ - the host of sages; ಶ್ರಾವಯಿತುಂ - to make them hear; ಜಗಿಥ - (Thou) stated; ಕುಲ-ವಧೂ-ಧರ್ಮಂ - the housewives' duties; ಧರ್ಮ್ಯಂ ಖಲು - in accordance of Dharma indeed; ತೇ ವಚನಂ - Thy words; ಕರ್ಮ ತು ನೋ - actions but not; ನಿರ್ಮಲಸ್ಯ - of Thee who are pure; ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ್ಯಂ - (are) to be followed;
Translation
To the hearing of the sages assembled in the skies, Thou stated the duties of the housewives, for the benefit of the world. Indeed, Thy words are to be followed for they are in accordance with the Dharma. But the actions of Thee who are ever pure, should not be practiced by others, because Thy actions do not always conform to the good and bad standards of the world.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಆಕರ್ಣ್ಯ ತೇ ಪ್ರತೀಪಾಂ ವಾಣೀಮೇಣೀದೃಶಃ ಪರಂ ದೀನಾಃ ।
ಮಾ ಮಾ ಕರುಣಾಸಿಂಧೋ ಪರಿತ್ಯಜೇತ್ಯತಿಚಿರಂ ವಿಲೇಪುಸ್ತಾಃ ॥3॥
Meaning
ಆಕರ್ಣ್ಯ ತೇ - hearing Thy; ಪ್ರತೀಪಾಂ ವಾಣೀಂ- - unfavourable speech; ಏಣೀದೃಶಃ - the doe eyed damsels; ಪರಂ ದೀನಾಃ - very much grief stricken; ಮಾ ಮಾ - do not O do not; ಕರುಣಾಸಿಂಧೋ - O Thou ocean of compassion; ಪರಿತ್ಯಜ-ಇತಿ- - forsake thus; ಅಚಿರಂ - for long; ವಿಲೇಪುಃ-ತಾಃ - pleaded they;
Translation
On hearing Thy unfavourable speech, those doe eyed women were very much grief stricken. For long did they plead saying 'O Thou ocean of compassion, do not, O do not forsake us.'
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತಾಸಾಂ ರುದಿತೈರ್ಲಪಿತೈಃ ಕರುಣಾಕುಲಮಾನಸೋ ಮುರಾರೇ ತ್ವಮ್ ।
ತಾಭಿಸ್ಸಮಂ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತೋ ಯಮುನಾಪುಲಿನೇಷು ಕಾಮಮಭಿರಂತುಮ್ ॥4॥
Meaning
ತಾಸಾಂ ರುದಿತೈಃ- - by their weeping; ಲಪಿತೈಃ - (and) pleading; ಕರುಣಾ-ಆಕುಲ- - with pity moved; ಮಾನಸಃ - Thy mind; ಮುರಾರೇ ತ್ವಂ - O Slayer of Mur! Thou; ತಾಭಿಃ-ಸಮಂ - with them; ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಃ - set out; ಯಮುನಾ-ಪುಲಿನೇಷು - on the Yamunaa sand banks; ಕಾಮಂ-ಅಭಿರಂತುಂ - desiring to sport freely;
Translation
O Thou! Slayer of Mura! Moved with pity by their weeping and pleading, Thou set out to sport freely with them on the sand banks of Yamunaa river.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಚಂದ್ರಕರಸ್ಯಂದಲಸತ್ಸುಂದರಯಮುನಾತಟಾಂತವೀಥೀಷು ।
ಗೋಪೀಜನೋತ್ತರೀಯೈರಾಪಾದಿತಸಂಸ್ತರೋ ನ್ಯಷೀದಸ್ತ್ವಮ್ ॥5॥
Meaning
ಚಂದ್ರಕರ- - the moon light; ಸ್ಯಂದ-ಲಸತ್- - flowing and shining; ಸುಂದರ- - beautifully; ಯಮುನಾ-ತಟಾಂತ- - on the Yamunaa banks; ವೀಥೀಷು - and the sand banks; ಗೋಪೀಜನ- - the Gopikaas; ಉತ್ತರೀಯೈಃ- - (by their) upper garment; ಆಪಾದಿತ-ಸಂಸ್ತರಃ - spread out bed; ನ್ಯಷೀದಃ-ತ್ವಂ - sat down Thou;
Translation
The sand banks of Yamunaa was lit by beautifully flowing and shining moon light. There Thou sat down on the bed which was made by the Gopikaas by spreading out their upper garment.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸುಮಧುರನರ್ಮಾಲಪನೈಃ ಕರಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೈಶ್ಚ ಚುಂಬನೋಲ್ಲಾಸೈಃ ।
ಗಾಢಾಲಿಂಗನಸಂಗೈಸ್ತ್ವಮಂಗನಾಲೋಕಮಾಕುಲೀಚಕೃಷೇ ॥6॥
Meaning
ಸುಮಧುರ್- - (with) sweet; ನರ್ಮ-ಆಲಪನೈಃ - playful talks; ಕರ-ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೈಃ-ಚ - and by hands holding; ಚುಂಬನ-ಉಲ್ಲಾಸೈಃ - and by the joy of kisses; ಗಾಢ-ಆಲಿಂಗನ-ಸಂಗೈಃ- - and by close hearty embraces; ತ್ವಂ- - Thou; ಅಂಗನಾ-ಲೋಕಂ- - the women folk; ಆಕುಲೀ-ಚಕೃಷೇ - delighted immensely;
Translation
By Thy sweet and playful talks, by holding of hands, by the joy of kisses, and by close hearty embraces, Thou delighted the women folk immensely.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ವಾಸೋಹರಣದಿನೇ ಯದ್ವಾಸೋಹರಣಂ ಪ್ರತಿಶ್ರುತಂ ತಾಸಾಮ್ ।
ತದಪಿ ವಿಭೋ ರಸವಿವಶಸ್ವಾಂತಾನಾಂ ಕಾಂತ ಸುಭ್ರುವಾಮದಧಾಃ ॥7॥
Meaning
ವಾಸೋ-ಹರಣ-ದಿನೇ - on the day when the clothes were stolen; ಯತ್-ವಾಸೋ-ಹರಣಂ - that stealing of clothes; ಪ್ರತಿಶ್ರುತಂ ತಾಸಾಂ - was promised to them (to the gopis); ತತ್-ಅಪಿ ವಿಭೋ - that also O Lord!; ರಸ-ವಿವಶ-ಸ್ವಾಂತಾನಾಂ - to bliss overcome minds; ಕಾಂತ - O Charming One!; ಸುಭ್ರುವಾಂ- - (to them) the beautiful eyed ones; ಅದಧಾಃ - Thou gave (the promise);
Translation
On the day of the stealing of clothes, O Lord! Thou had promised to them the stealing of clothes (the removal of the sense of ego). That also, O charming One! Thou gave to the beautiful eyed women, whose minds were overcome with bliss.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಕಂದಲಿತಘರ್ಮಲೇಶಂ ಕುಂದಮೃದುಸ್ಮೇರವಕ್ತ್ರಪಾಥೋಜಮ್ ।
ನಂದಸುತ ತ್ವಾಂ ತ್ರಿಜಗತ್ಸುಂದರಮುಪಗೂಹ್ಯ ನಂದಿತಾ ಬಾಲಾಃ ॥8॥
Meaning
ಕಂದಲಿತ- - sprouting of; ಘರ್ಮ-ಲೇಶಂ - perspiration drops(and with); ಕುಂದ-ಮೃದು-ಸ್ಮೇರ- - jasmine like soft smile; ವಕ್ತ್ರ-ಪಾಥೋಜಂ - and face like a lotus; ನಂದಸುತ ತ್ವಾಂ - O Thee the son of Nanda; ತ್ರಿಜಗತ್-ಸುಂದರಂ- - the most resplendent one in the worlds; ಉಪಗೂಹ್ಯ - embracing; ನಂದಿತಾಃ ಬಾಲಾಃ - were very delighted, the damsels;
Translation
O Son of Nanda! The most resplendent one in the three worlds! Perspiration drops sprouted on Thy body. Thy lotus face was soft with a jasmine like smile. The damsels embracing Thee were very delighted.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ವಿರಹೇಷ್ವಂಗಾರಮಯಃ ಶೃಂಗಾರಮಯಶ್ಚ ಸಂಗಮೇ ಹಿ ತ್ವಂ ನಿತರಾಮಂಗಾರಮಯಸ್ತತ್ರ ಪುನಸ್ಸಂಗಮೇಽಪಿ ಚಿತ್ರಮಿದಮ್ ॥9॥
Meaning
ವಿರಹೇಷು- - in separation; ಅಂಗಾರಮಯಃ - (Thou) are like burning charcoal; ಶೃಂಗಾರಮಯಃ-ಚ - (and) love embodied; ಸಂಗಮೇ - in union; ಹಿ ತ್ವಂ - indeed are Thou; ನಿತರಾಂ- - absolutely; ಅಂಗ-ಅರಮಯಃ - O Dear One! (Thou) gave delight; ತತ್ರ ಪುನಃ- - there again; ಸಂಗಮೇ-ಅಪಿ - in union also; ಚಿತ್ರಂ-ಇದಂ - wonderful it is;
Translation
In separation with Thee, Thou are unbearable as a burning charcoal. In union indeed Thou are an absolute embodiment of love. O Dear One! Wonderful it indeed is that in union also, here again the women were delighted.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ರಾಧಾತುಂಗಪಯೋಧರಸಾಧುಪರೀರಂಭಲೋಲುಪಾತ್ಮಾನಮ್ ।
ಆರಾಧಯೇ ಭವಂತಂ ಪವನಪುರಾಧೀಶ ಶಮಯ ಸಕಲಗದಾನ್ ॥10॥
Meaning
ರಾಧಾ-ತುಂಗ-ಪಯೋಧರ- - Raadhaa's bulging breasts; ಸಾಧು-ಪರೀರಂಭ- - nicely (to) embrace; ಲೋಲುಪ-ಆತ್ಮಾನಂ - eager with a mind; ಆರಾಧಯೇ ಭವಂತಂ - (I) worship Thee; ಪವನಪುರಾಧೀಶ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ಶಮಯ ಸಕಲ-ಗದಾನ್ - eradicate all the ailments.;
Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! I worship Thee who are eager in mind to nicely embrace the bulging breasts of Raadhaa. I pray to Thee to eradicate all the ailments.
