නාරායණීයං දශක 61

ශ්ලෝකඃ
තතශ්ච වෘංදාවනතෝऽතිදූරතෝ
වනං ගතස්ත්වං ඛලු ගෝපගෝකුලෛඃ ।
හෘදංතරේ භක්තතරද්විජාංගනා-
කදංබකානුග්රහණාග්රහං වහන් ॥1॥

Meaning
තතඃ-ච - and then; වෘංදාවනතඃ- - from Vrindaavana; අතිදූරතඃ - far away; වනං ගතඃ-ත්වං - (when) to the forest went Thou; ඛලු ගෝප-ගෝකුලෛඃ - indeed (with) the cowherds and cows; හෘදංතරේ - in (Thy) heart; භක්තතර- - (to) the very devoted; ද්විජාංගනාඃ- - Braahmin women; කදංබක- - group; අනුග්රහණ- - blessing; ආග්රහං වහන් - desire carrying;

Translation
Once Thou went into the forest far away from Vrindaavana, with the cows and the cowherds. In Thy heart Thou carried the desire of blessing the large group of the very devout Braahmin women.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
තතෝ නිරීක්ෂ්යාශරණේ වනාංතරේ
කිශෝරලෝකං ක්ෂුධිතං තෘෂාකුලම් ।
අදූරතෝ යජ්ඤපරාන් ද්විජාන් ප්රති
ව්යසර්ජයෝ දීදිවියාචනාය තාන් ॥2॥

Meaning
තතඃ නිරීක්ෂ්ය- - then seeing; අශරණේ වනාංතරේ - without shelter, inside the forest; කිශෝර-ලෝකං - the boys; ක්ෂුධිතං තෘෂා-ආකුලං - hungry (and) with thirst tormented; අදූරතඃ - not very far away; යජ්ඤපරාන් - performing yagya; ද්විජාන් ප්රති - Braahmins towards; ව්යසර්ජයඃ - sent; දීදිවි-යාචනාය - boiled rice to beg; තාන් - of them;

Translation
Then Thou saw that the boys were hungry and were tormented by thirst and the forest was without any dwellings where some food could be got. Not very far away some Braahmins were performing Yagya. Thou sent the boys to them to beg for some boiled rice (food).

ශ්ලෝකඃ
ගතේෂ්වථෝ තේෂ්වභිධාය තේऽභිධාං
කුමාරකේෂ්වෝදනයාචිෂු ප්රභෝ ।
ශ්රුතිස්ථිරා අප්යභිනින්යුරශ්රුතිං
න කිංචිදූචුශ්ච මහීසුරෝත්තමාඃ ॥3॥

Meaning
ගතේෂු-අථඃ තේෂු- - they had gone ,then they; අභිධාය - mentioning; තේ-අභිධාං - Thy name; කුමාරකේෂු- - the boys; ඕදන-යාචිෂු - for food had asked; ප්රභෝ - O Lord!; ශ්රුති-ස්ථිරා අපි- - (they) in Srutis firmly established even (though); අභිනින්යුඃ-අශ්රුතිං - took to not hearing; න කිංචිත්- - anything; ඌචුඃ-ච - said and; මහීසුර-උත්තමාඃ - (they known to be) the Braahmins great;

Translation
O Lord! The boys then went to the Braahmins and they mentioned Thy name and asked for food. But the great Braahmins who were known to be well versed in Vedas (Shrutis) acted as if they had not heard anything and did not respond in any manner.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
අනාදරාත් ඛින්නධියෝ හි බාලකාඃ ।
සමායයුර්යුක්තමිදං හි යජ්වසු ।
චිරාදභක්තාඃ ඛලු තේ මහීසුරාඃ
කථං හි භක්තං ත්වයි තෛඃ සමර්ප්යතේ ॥4॥

Meaning
අනාදරාත් - ignored; ඛින්නධියඃ - sad at heart; හි බාලකාඃ - indeed the boys; සමායයුඃ- - came back; යුක්තම්-ඉදං හි - befitting this (behaviour) indeed; යජ්වසු - for ritualists; චිරාත්-අභක්තාඃ - for long being undevoted; ඛලු තේ මහීසුරාඃ - indeed they the Braahmins; කථං හි - how indeed; භක්තං ත්වයි - food to Thee; තෛඃ සමර්ප්යතේ - by them be offered;

Translation
The boys came back, saddened at heart at being ignored thus. But such an indifferent behaviour was quite expected of such ritualistic Braahmins. Indeed for long they were not devoted to Thee so how was it possible that they would offer food to Thee?

ශ්ලෝකඃ
නිවේදයධ්වං ගෘහිණීජනාය මාං
දිශේයුරන්නං කරුණාකුලා ඉමාඃ ।
ඉති ස්මිතාර්ද්රං භවතේරිතා ගතා-
ස්තේ දාරකා දාරජනං යයාචිරේ ॥5॥

Meaning
නිවේදයධ්වං - announce; ගෘහිණීජනාය - to the housewives; මාම් - me; දිශේයුඃ-අන්නං - will give food; කරුණාකුලාඃ-ඉමාඃ - compassion driven these (women); ඉති ස්මිත-ආර්ද්රම් - thus smiling softly; භවතා-ඊරිතාඃ - by Thee being said; ගතාඃ-තේ දාරකාඃ - went they (those) boys; දාරජනං යයාචිරේ - the wives requested;

Translation
Thou told the boys to go and announce Thy arrival to the housewives. Thou smilingly told them that those women were full of compassion and that they would give food. Thus being told the boys went to the housewives and requested them.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
ගෘහීතනාම්නි ත්වයි සංභ්රමාකුලා-
ශ්චතුර්විධං භෝජ්යරසං ප්රගෘහ්ය තාඃ ।
චිරංධෘතත්වත්ප්රවිලෝකනාග්රහාඃ
ස්වකෛර්නිරුද්ධා අපි තූර්ණමායයුඃ ॥6॥

Meaning
ගෘහීත-නාම්නි ත්වයි - (when) Thy name was taken; සංභ්රම-ආකුලාඃ- - in great excitement (and) who were eager (to see Thee); චතුර්විධං භෝජ්ය-රසං - four types of food; ප්රගෘහ්ය-තාඃ - taking they; චිරං-ධෘත-ත්වත්- - for long holding Thy; ප්රවිලෝකන-ආග්රහාඃ - sight's desire; ස්වකෛඃ-නිරුද්ධාඃ අපි - by kith and kin being prevented even; තූර්ණම්-ආයයුඃ - quickly came;

Translation
As Thy name was mentioned by the boys, the women who were eager to see Thee were very excited. They quickly came to Thee carrying with them four types food. For long they were holding a desire to see Thee, so in spite of being forbidden by their kith and kin, they came quickly.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
විලෝලපිංඡං චිකුරේ කපෝලයෝඃ
සමුල්ලසත්කුංඩලමාර්ද්රමීක්ෂිතේ ।
නිධාය බාහුං සුහෘදංසසීමනි
ස්ථිතං භවංතං සමලෝකයංත තාඃ ॥7॥

Meaning
විලෝල-පිංඡං - quivering peacock feather; චිකුරේ කපෝලයෝඃ - in the hair, on the two cheeks; සමුල්ලසත්- - glowing; කුංඩලම්- - earrings; ආර්ද්රම්-ඊක්ෂිතේ - kindly glance; නිධාය බාහුං - placing hand; සුහෘත්-අංස-සීමනි - on friend's shoulder; ස්ථිතං භවංතං - standing (thus) Thee; සමලෝකයංත තාඃ - joyfully saw they (the women);

Translation
The peacock feather was quivering in the locks of Thy hair. Thy two cheeks were glowing with the reflection of the earrings. Thy hand was placed on the shoulder of Thy friend. The women joyfully saw Thee standing in this manner in front of them.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
තදා ච කාචිත්ත්වදුපාගමෝද්යතා
ගෘහීතහස්තා දයිතේන යජ්වනා ।
තදෛව සංචිංත්ය භවංතමංජසා
විවේශ කෛවල්යමහෝ කෘතින්යසෞ ॥8॥

Meaning
තදා ච කාචිත්- - and then one of them; ත්වත්-උපාගම- - Thee coming near to; උද්යතා ගෘහීත-හස්තා - eager, caught by the hand; දයිතේන යජ්වනා - by (her) husband (who was) a ritualistic Braahmin; තදා-ඒව - then only; සංචිංත්ය - meditated deeply; භවංතම්-අංජසා - on Thee, easily; විවේශ කෛවල්යම්- - entered oneness (with Thee); අහෝ - what a wonder; කෘතිනී-අසෞ - very fortunate (was) this one;

Translation
And then, one of them who was eager to come near Thee, was held back by hand by her ritualistic husband. Thus being deterred, she meditated deeply on Thee. O What a wonder! This fortunate one easily entered oneness with Thee, there and then.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
ආදාය භෝජ්යාන්යනුගෘහ්ය තාඃ පුන-
ස්ත්වදංගසංගස්පෘහයෝජ්ඣතීර්ගෘහම් ।
විලෝක්ය යජ්ඤාය විසර්ජයන්නිමා-
ශ්චකර්ථ භර්තෘනපි තාස්වගර්හණාන් ॥9॥

Meaning
ආදාය භෝජ්යානි- - taking food offerings; අනුගෘහ්ය තාඃ - blessing them (the women); පුනඃ - again; ත්වත්-අංග- - Thy physical; සංග-ස්පෘහයා- - contact desiring; උජ්ඣතීඃ ගෘහම් - (and so) abandoning the house; විලෝක්ය යජ්ඤාය - seeing, for the rituals; විසර්ජයන්- - sending back; ඉමාඃ-චකර්ථ - these women, Thou did; භර්තෘන-අපි - the husbands also; තාසු-අගර්හණාන් - in them (for their wives) had no hard feelings;

Translation
Accepting their offerings for food, Thou blessed them. They were always desirous of having physical contact with Thee and so abandoned their houses. Seeing this, Thou sent them back to conduct the Yagya rituals properly. Thou also rendered their husbands free from any ill feelings towards them.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
නිරූප්ය දෝෂං නිජමංගනාජනේ
විලෝක්ය භක්තිං ච පුනර්විචාරිභිඃ
ප්රබුද්ධතත්ත්වෛස්ත්වමභිෂ්ටුතෝ ද්විජෛ-
ර්මරුත්පුරාධීශ නිරුංධි මේ ගදාන් ॥10॥

Meaning
නිරූප්ය - realising; දෝෂං නිජම්- - mistake (their) own; අංගනාජනේ - (and) in the women folk; විලෝක්ය භක්තිං - seeing devotion; ච පුනඃ- - and again; විචාරිභිඃ - by the thinking ones; ප්රබුද්ධ-තත්ත්වෛඃ- - who had understood the reality; ත්වම්-අභිෂ්ටුතඃ - Thou were praised; ද්විජෛඃ- - by the Braahmins; මරුත්පුරාධීශ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; නිරුංධි මේ ගදාන් - eradicate my sufferings;

Translation
The Braahmins realized their own mistake. They also recognized the great devotion of their wives. Those of them who reflected thus and then understood the Reality sang Thy praises. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Eradicate my sufferings.
