ଶ୍ରୀ ମହିଷାସୁର ମର୍ଦିନୀ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରମ୍ is a powerful hymn to the Goddess as the destroyer of Mahishasura, the buffalo-demon who represents brute arrogance, violence, and shape-shifting ego. Its rhythmic refrain ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି celebrates Devi as beauty, strength, protection, and the victorious energy of ଧର୍ମ.

Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory, victory to you, O daughter of the mountain, delighter of the earth and universe, dweller on the Vindhya peak, delight of Vishnu, praised by Indra, belonging to Shiva's family, mother of all, beautiful mountain-born crusher of Mahishasura.
ସୁରଵରଵର୍ଷିଣି ଦୁର୍ଧରଧର୍ଷିଣି ଦୁର୍ମୁଖମର୍ଷିଣି ହର୍ଷରତେ

Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to you who shower blessings on the gods, subdue the unconquerable, remove impurity, nourish the three worlds, delight Shiva, and dry up the pride of hostile demonic forces.
ଅୟି ଜଗଦଂବ ମଦଂବ କଦଂବଵନପ୍ରିୟଵାସିନି ହାସରତେ
ଶିଖରି ଶିରୋମଣି ତୁଂଗହିମାଲୟ ଶୃଂଗନିଜାଲୟ ମଧ୍ୟଗତେ ।
ମଧୁମଧୁରେ ମଧୁକୈଟଭଗଂଜିନି କୈଟଭଭଂଜିନି ରାସରତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 3 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
O Mother of the world, my Mother, lover of the kadamba grove, smiling one who dwells on the high Himalayan peaks, honey-sweet destroyer of Madhu and Kaitabha, victory to you who delights in divine play.
ଅୟି ଶତଖଂଡ ଵିଖଂଡିତରୁଂଡ ଵିତୁଂଡିତଶୁଂଡ ଗଜାଧିପତେ
ରିପୁଗଜଗଂଡ ଵିଦାରଣଚଂଡ ପରାକ୍ରମଶୁଂଡ ମୃଗାଧିପତେ ।

Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the lion-riding Goddess whose own powerful arms shatter the heads, trunks, and proud elephant-like forces of the enemy in battle.
ଅୟି ରଣଦୁର୍ମଦ ଶତ୍ରୁଵଧୋଦିତ ଦୁର୍ଧରନିର୍ଜର ଶକ୍ତିଭୃତେ
ଚତୁରଵିଚାରଧୁରୀଣ ମହାଶିଵ ଦୂତକୃତ ପ୍ରମଥାଧିପତେ ।
ଦୁରିତଦୁରୀହ ଦୁରାଶୟ ଦୁର୍ମତି ଦାନଵଦୂତ କୃତାଂତମତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 5 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess who bears the gods' irresistible power, wisely directs even Shiva as messenger, and brings an end to sinful, evil-minded demonic arrogance.
ଅୟି ଶରଣାଗତ ଵୈରିଵଧୂଵର ଵୀରଵରାଭୟଦାୟକରେ
ତ୍ରିଭୁଵନ ମସ୍ତକ ଶୂଲଵିରୋଧି ଶିରୋଧିକୃତାମଲ ଶୂଲକରେ ।
ଦୁମିଦୁମିତାମର ଦୁଂଦୁଭିନାଦ ମହୋ ମୁଖରୀକୃତ ତିଗ୍ମକରେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 6 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the refuge-giving Mother who grants fearlessness, wields the pure trident against hostile forces, and fills the heavens with the resounding drums of victory.
ଅୟି ନିଜହୁଂକୃତିମାତ୍ର ନିରାକୃତ ଧୂମ୍ରଵିଲୋଚନ ଧୂମ୍ରଶତେ
ସମରଵିଶୋଷିତ ଶୋଣିତବୀଜ ସମୁଦ୍ଭଵଶୋଣିତ ବୀଜଲତେ ।
ଶିଵ ଶିଵ ଶୁଂଭ ନିଶୁଂଭ ମହାହଵ ତର୍ପିତ ଭୂତ ପିଶାଚରତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 7 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess whose very cry destroys Dhumralochana, who dries up the blood-seed of Raktabija in battle, and who defeats Shumbha and Nishumbha amid the fierce hosts.
ଧନୁରନୁସଂଗ ରଣକ୍ଷଣସଂଗ ପରିସ୍ଫୁରଦଂଗ ନଟତ୍କଟକେ
କନକ ପିଶଂଗ ପୃଷତ୍କନିଷଂଗରସଦ୍ଭଟ ଶୃଂଗ ହତାଵଟୁକେ ।
କୃତଚତୁରଂଗ ବଲକ୍ଷିତିରଂଗ ଘଟଦ୍ବହୁରଂଗ ରଟଦ୍ବଟୁକେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 8 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess whose flashing limbs, bow, quiver, warriors, and fourfold army move in brilliant battle order against the forces of adharma.
ସୁରଲଲନା ତତଥେୟି ତଥେୟି କୃତାଭିନୟୋଦର ନୃତ୍ୟରତେ
କୃତ କୁକୁଥଃ କୁକୁଥୋ ଗଡଦାଦିକତାଲ କୁତୂହଲ ଗାନରତେ ।
ଧୁଧୁକୁଟ ଧୁକ୍କୁଟ ଧିଂଧିମିତ ଧ୍ଵନି ଧୀର ମୃଦଂଗ ନିନାଦରତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 9 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess who delights in celestial dance, expressive movement, eager song, and the powerful rhythms of drums resounding in devotion.
ଜୟ ଜୟ ଜପ୍ୟ ଜୟେ ଜୟ ଶବ୍ଦପରସ୍ତୁତି ତତ୍ପର ଵିଶ୍ଵନୁତେ
ଭଣ ଭଣ ଭିଂଜିମି ଭିଂକୃତନୂପୁର ସିଂଜିତମୋହିତ ଭୂତପତେ । [ଝ-, ଝିଂ-]

Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the universally praised Goddess, worthy of repeated japa, whose anklets ring with enchanting sound and who delights in dance, drama, and beautiful song.
ଅୟି ସୁମନଃ ସୁମନଃ ସୁମନଃ ସୁମନଃ ସୁମନୋହର କାଂତିୟୁତେ
ଶ୍ରିତ ରଜନୀ ରଜନୀ ରଜନୀ ରଜନୀ ରଜନୀକର ଵକ୍ତ୍ରଵୃତେ ।
ସୁନୟନ ଵିଭ୍ରମର ଭ୍ରମର ଭ୍ରମର ଭ୍ରମର ଭ୍ରମରାଧିପତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 11 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the mountain-born Goddess whose captivating beauty delights noble minds, whose moon-like face shines, and whose lovely eyes draw bee-like devotion.
ସହିତ ମହାହଵ ମଲ୍ଲମ ତଲ୍ଲିକ ମଲ୍ଲିତ ରଲ୍ଲକ ମଲ୍ଲରତେ
ଵିରଚିତ ଵଲ୍ଲିକ ପଲ୍ଲିକ ମଲ୍ଲିକ ଭିଲ୍ଲିକ ଭିଲ୍ଲିକ ଵର୍ଗ ଵୃତେ ।
ସିତକୃତ ଫୁଲ୍ଲସମୁଲ୍ଲସିତାରୁଣ ତଲ୍ଲଜ ପଲ୍ଲଵ ସଲ୍ଲଲିତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 12 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess who is present in heroic battle and also in blossoming groves, surrounded by attendants and adorned with the grace of tender red leaves and flowers.
ଅଵିରଲଗଂଡଗଲନ୍ମଦମେଦୁର ମତ୍ତମତଂଗଜ ରାଜପତେ
ତ୍ରିଭୁଵନଭୂଷଣ ଭୂତକଲାନିଧି ରୂପପୟୋନିଧି ରାଜସୁତେ ।
ଅୟି ସୁଦତୀଜନ ଲାଲସମାନସ ମୋହନମନ୍ମଥ ରାଜସୁତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 13 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the royal daughter, ornament of the three worlds, ocean of beauty and treasure of arts, whose majesty surpasses intoxicated royal elephants and enchants every refined mind.
କମଲଦଲାମଲ କୋମଲକାଂତି କଲାକଲିତାମଲ ଭାଲଲତେ
ସକଲଵିଲାସ କଳାନିଲୟ କ୍ରମକେଲିଚଲତ୍କଲହଂସକୁଲେ ।
ଅଲିକୁଲ ସଂକୁଲ କୁଵଲୟ ମଂଡଲ ମୌଲିମିଲଦ୍ଭକୁଲାଲି କୁଲେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 14 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess of lotus-pure tenderness, abode of graceful arts, surrounded by playful swans, bees, blue lotuses, and fragrant blossoms.
କରମୁରଳୀରଵ ଵୀଜିତ କୂଜିତ ଲଜ୍ଜିତକୋକିଲ ମଂଜୁମତେ
ମିଲିତ ପୁଲିଂଦ ମନୋହର ଗୁଂଜିତ ରଂଜିତଶୈଲ ନିକୁଂଜଗତେ ।
ନିଜଗୁଣଭୂତ ମହାଶବରୀଗଣ ସଦ୍ଗୁଣସଂଭୃତ କେଳିତଲେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 15 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the charming Mother whose music humbles the cuckoo, whose presence delights mountain groves and forest devotees, and whose playfield is filled with noble qualities.
କଟିତଟପୀତ ଦୁକୂଲଵିଚିତ୍ର ମୟୂଖତିରସ୍କୃତ ଚଂଦ୍ରରୁଚେ
ପ୍ରଣତସୁରାସୁର ମୌଳିମଣିସ୍ଫୁର ଦଂଶୁଲସନ୍ନଖ ଚଂଦ୍ରରୁଚେ ।
ଜିତକନକାଚଲ ମୌଳିପଦୋର୍ଜିତ ନିର୍ଭରକୁଂଜର କୁଂଭକୁଚେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 16 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess clothed in yellow silk, outshining moonlight, whose toenails flash with rays from the crown-jewels of bowing gods and asuras, and whose form surpasses golden mountains in splendor.
ଵିଜିତ ସହସ୍ରକରୈକ ସହସ୍ରକରୈକ ସହସ୍ରକରୈକନୁତେ
କୃତ ସୁରତାରକ ସଂଗରତାରକ ସଂଗରତାରକ ସୂନୁସୁତେ ।
ସୁରଥସମାଧି ସମାନସମାଧି ସମାଧି ସମାଧି ସୁଜାତରତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 17 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Victory to the Goddess praised by the thousand-rayed sun, savior of the gods in battle, and gracious to devotees like Suratha and Samadhi who sought refuge in her.
ପଦକମଲଂ କରୁଣାନିଲୟେ ଵରିଵସ୍ୟତି ୟୋଽନୁଦିନଂ ସ ଶିଵେ
ଅୟି କମଲେ କମଲାନିଲୟେ କମଲାନିଲୟଃ ସ କଥଂ ନ ଭଵେତ୍ ।
ତଵ ପଦମେଵ ପରଂପଦମିତ୍ୟନୁଶୀଲୟତୋ ମମ କିଂ ନ ଶିଵେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 18 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
O compassionate, auspicious lotus-goddess, how can one who worships your lotus feet daily fail to become lotus-like? For one who contemplates your feet as the supreme goal, what blessing is impossible?
କନକଲସତ୍କଲ ସିଂଧୁଜଲୈରନୁସିଂଚିନୁତେ ଗୁଣରଂଗଭୁଵଂ
ଭଜତି ସ କିଂ ନ ଶଚୀକୁଚକୁଂଭ ତଟୀପରିରଂଭ ସୁଖାନୁଭଵମ୍ ।
ତଵ ଚରଣଂ ଶରଣଂ କରଵାଣି ନତାମରଵାଣି ନିଵାସି ଶିଵଂ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 19 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Those who worship you with golden vessels and sacred waters may gain heavenly joys, but I make your feet my refuge, O one praised by the gods; may that refuge be auspicious.
ତଵ ଵିମଲେଂଦୁକୁଲଂ ଵଦନେଂଦୁମଲଂ ସକଲଂ ନନୁ କୂଲୟତେ
କିମୁ ପୁରୁହୂତ ପୁରୀଂଦୁମୁଖୀ ସୁମୁଖୀଭିରସୌ ଵିମୁଖୀକ୍ରିୟତେ ।
ମମ ତୁ ମତଂ ଶିଵନାମଧନେ ଭଵତୀ କୃପୟା କିମୁତ କ୍ରିୟତେ
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 20 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
Your pure moon-like face draws all beauty together; by your grace, what could be denied to one whose true wealth is the name of Shiva?
ଅୟି ମୟି ଦୀନଦୟାଲୁତୟା କୃପୟୈଵ ତ୍ଵୟା ଭଵିତଵ୍ୟମୁମେ
ଅୟି ଜଗତୋ ଜନନୀ କୃପୟାସି ୟଥାସି ତଥାଽନୁଭିତାସିରତେ ।
ୟଦୁଚିତମତ୍ର ଭଵତ୍ୟୁରରି କୁରୁତାଦୁରୁତାପମପାକୁରୁ ତେ [ମେ]
ଜୟ ଜୟ ହେ ମହିଷାସୁରମର୍ଦିନି ରମ୍ୟକପର୍ଦିନି ଶୈଲସୁତେ ॥ 21 ॥
Translation (ଭାଵାର୍ଥ):
O Uma, Mother of the world, be gracious to me with compassion for the helpless. As you truly are, please do what is fitting here and remove this terrible distress.
