ಪಠನ್ತೋ ನಾಮಾನಿ ಪ್ರಮದಭರಸಿನ್ಧೌ ನಿಪತಿತಾಃ
ಸ್ಮರನ್ತೋ ರೂಪಂ ತೇ ವರದ ಕಥಯನ್ತೋ ಗುಣಕಥಾಃ ।
ಚರನ್ತೋ ಯೇ ಭಕ್ತಾಸ್ತ್ವಯಿ ಖಲು ರಮನ್ತೇ ಪರಮಮೂ-
ನಹಂ ಧನ್ಯಾನ್ ಮನ್ಯೇ ಸಮಧಿಗತಸರ್ವಾಭಿಲಷಿತಾನ್ ॥1॥
Meaning
ಪಠನ್ತಃ - repeating; ನಾಮಾನಿ - (Thy) names; ಪ್ರಮದಭರ ಸಿನ್ಧೌ - in the ocean of Bliss; ನಿಪತಿತಾಃ - submerged; ಸ್ಮರನ್ತಃ - meditating on; ರೂಪಂ ತೇ - Thy form; ವರದ - O Bestower of boons!; ಕಥಯನ್ತಃ - narrating (to one another); ಗುಣಕಥಾಃ - (Thy) deeds and excellences; ಚರನ್ತಃ - moving about freely; ಯೇ ಭಕ್ತಾಃ - those devotees (who); ತ್ವಯಿ ಖಲು ರಮನ್ತೇ ಪರಂ - in Thee, indeed, immersed in the Supreme Bliss; ಅಮೂನ್ ಅಹಂ - such (devotees) I; ಧನ್ಯಾನ್ ಮನ್ಯೇ - consider to be really blessed; ಸಮಧಿಗತ-ಸರ್ವ-ಅಭಿಲಷಿತಾನ್ - (they who) have attained fulfilment of all desires (i.e. who have no other desire other than the Lord);
Translation
O Bestower of Boons! I consider those devotees of Thine most fortunate, who always chant Thy sacred names, and so revel in the ocean of Bliss. Contemplating on Thy divine form they are engaged in narrating Thy divine stories. Moving about freely, they are immersed in the joy of Thy thoughts. They, indeed, have fulfilled all their desires in life.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಗದಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟಂ ಕಷ್ಟಂ ತವ ಚರಣಸೇವಾರಸಭರೇಽ-
ಪ್ಯನಾಸಕ್ತಂ ಚಿತ್ತಂ ಭವತಿ ಬತ ವಿಷ್ಣೋ ಕುರು ದಯಾಮ್ ।
ಭವತ್ಪಾದಾಮ್ಭೋಜಸ್ಮರಣರಸಿಕೋ ನಾಮನಿವಹಾ-
ನಹಂ ಗಾಯಂ ಗಾಯಂ ಕುಹಚನ ವಿವತ್ಸ್ಯಾಮಿ ವಿಜನೇ ॥2॥
Meaning
ಗದ ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟಂ - by diseases tormented; ಕಷ್ಟಂ - what a pity; ತವ ಚರಣ - Thy feet; ಸೇವಾ-ರಸ-ಭರೇ ಅಪಿ - even for the intense joy of serving; ಅನಾಸಕ್ತಂ ಚಿತ್ತಂ ಭವತಿ - my mind does not feel interested; ಬತ - alas; ವಿಷ್ಣೋ - O All-pervading Being!; ಕುರು ದಯಾಂ - be merciful (to me); ಭವತ್-ಪಾದ-ಅಮ್ಭೋಜ-ಸ್ಮರಣ-ರಸಿಕಃ - (I) becoming immersed in worshipping Thy lotus feet; ನಾಮ-ನಿವಹಾನ್-ಅಹಂ ಗಾಯಂ ಗಾಯಂ - I will keep singing Thy countless names; ಕುಹಚನ ವಿವತ್ಸ್ಯಾಮಿ ವಿಜನೇ - in some secluded place, (I) will dwell;
Translation
O Lord Vishnu! tormented by this painful disease, what a pity, my mind is not inclined to revel in the joy of worshipping at Thy lotus feet. Be merciful to me, so that I may retire to a secluded beautiful place and enjoy the bliss of meditating on Thy lotus feet immersed in chanting Thy innumerable names.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಕೃಪಾ ತೇ ಜಾತಾ ಚೇತ್ಕಿಮಿವ ನ ಹಿ ಲಭ್ಯಂ ತನುಭೃತಾಂ
ಮದೀಯಕ್ಲೇಶೌಘಪ್ರಶಮನದಶಾ ನಾಮ ಕಿಯತೀ ।
ನ ಕೇ ಕೇ ಲೋಕೇಽಸ್ಮಿನ್ನನಿಶಮಯಿ ಶೋಕಾಭಿರಹಿತಾ
ಭವದ್ಭಕ್ತಾ ಮುಕ್ತಾಃ ಸುಖಗತಿಮಸಕ್ತಾ ವಿದಧತೇ ॥3॥
Meaning
ಕೃಪಾ ತೇ ಜಾತಾ ಚೇತ್- - if Thy grace is achieved; ಕಿಮ್-ಇವ ನ ಹಿ ಲಭ್ಯಂ - what is there that cannot be achieved?; ತನುಭೃತಾಂ - by all embodied beings; ಮದೀಯ ಕ್ಲೇಶ-ಔಘ-ಪ್ರಶಮನ-ದಶಾ - the task of eradicating my afflictions; ನಾಮ ಕಿಯತೀ - how insignificant it is; ನ ಕೇ ಕೇ ಲೋಕೇ-ಅಸ್ಮಿನ್- - are there not several (devotees) in this world; ಅನಿಶಮ್-ಅಯಿ ಶೋಕ-ಅಭಿರಹಿತಾಃ - always, O Lord, who are free of sorrows; ಭವತ್ ಭಕ್ತಾಃ - Thy devotees; ಮುಕ್ತಾಃ - who are liberated; ಸುಖ-ಗತಿಮ್-ಅಸಕ್ತಾ - have pure bliss and are unattached; ವಿದಧತೇ - and also moving about freely;
Translation
O Lord! if Thy grace is present, is there anything in this world which man cannot attain? The curing of my disease is just a very insignificant matter for Thee. There are many devotees of Thine, in this world, who having been liberated from sufferings and are moving about freely without any attachment.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಮುನಿಪ್ರೌಢಾ ರೂಢಾ ಜಗತಿ ಖಲು ಗೂಢಾತ್ಮಗತಯೋ
ಭವತ್ಪಾದಾಮ್ಭೋಜಸ್ಮರಣವಿರುಜೋ ನಾರದಮುಖಾಃ ।
ಚರನ್ತೀಶ ಸ್ವೈರಂ ಸತತಪರಿನಿರ್ಭಾತಪರಚಿ -
ತ್ಸದಾನನ್ದಾದ್ವೈತಪ್ರಸರಪರಿಮಗ್ನಾಃ ಕಿಮಪರಮ್ ॥4॥
Meaning
ಮುನಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಾ - great sages; ರೂಢಾಃ ಜಗತಿ ಖಲು - (who)are well known in the world, indeed; ಗೂಢಾತ್ಮಗತಯಃ - move about freely unnoticed; ಭವತ್-ಪಾದ-ಅಮ್ಭೋಜ-ಸ್ಮರಣವಿರುಜಃ - by constant contemplation of Thy lotus feet have become free from all sorrows; ನಾರದ-ಮುಖಾಃ - Naarada leading; ಚರನ್ತಿ-ಈಶ ಸ್ವೈರಂ - move about, O Lord, at will; ಸತತ-ಪರಿನಿರ್ಭಾತ- - being ever immersed; ಪರಚಿತ್-ಆನನ್ದ್-ಅದ್ವೈತ-ಪ್ರಸರ-ಪರಿಮಗ್ನಾಃ - in the unabating and indivisible flow of Bliss-Consciousness; ಕಿಂ ಅಪರಮ್ - what more than this (is desirable in life?);
Translation
O Lord! Great sages like Naarada move about freely at will without being noticed. They are free of all sorrows because of their constant contemplation on Thy lotus feet. They have attained the eternal knowledge and are always immersed in Thy non-dual Self,which is of the nature of supreme Bliss-Consciousness. What more can one desire to attain in life?
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಭವದ್ಭಕ್ತಿಃ ಸ್ಫೀತಾ ಭವತು ಮಮ ಸೈವ ಪ್ರಶಮಯೇ-
ದಶೇಷಕ್ಲೇಶೌಘಂ ನ ಖಲು ಹೃದಿ ಸನ್ದೇಹಕಣಿಕಾ ।
ನ ಚೇದ್ವ್ಯಾಸಸ್ಯೋಕ್ತಿಸ್ತವ ಚ ವಚನಂ ನೈಗಮವಚೋ
ಭವೇನ್ಮಿಥ್ಯಾ ರಥ್ಯಾಪುರುಷವಚನಪ್ರಾಯಮಖಿಲಮ್ ॥5॥
Meaning
ಭವತ್ ಭಕ್ತಿಃ - devotion to Thee; ಸ್ಫೀತಾ ಭವತು - may it reach perfection; ಮಮ - my (devotion to Thee); ಸ ಏವ ಪ್ರಶಮಯೇತ್ - that alone will eradicate; ಅಶೇಷ-ಕ್ಲೇಶ-ಔಘಂ - endless sorrows and sufferings; ನ ಖಲು ಹೃದಿ - not, indeed, in my heart; ಸನ್ದೇಹ ಕಣಿಕಾ - is there the slightest doubt; ನ ಚೇತ್ - if it were not so; ವ್ಯಾಸಸ್ಯ-ಉಕ್ತಿ - the words of Sage Vyaasa; ತವ ಚ ವಚನಂ - Thy own words; ನೈಗಮ-ವಚಃ - (and) the statements of the Vedas; ಭವೇತ್-ಮಿಥ್ಯಾ - would become untrue; ರಥ್ಯಾ-ಪುರುಷ-ವಚನ-ಪ್ರಾಯಮ್ - like the street urchins' casual utterings; ಅಖಿಲಮ್ - all of them;
Translation
O Lord! May my devotion to Thee grow intense, so that all my sufferings may automatically subside. I do not have the slightest doubt in my heart that devotion to Thee will bear this fruit. For if it were not so, the words of sage Vyaasa, Thy own words and the declarations of the Vedaas would prove to be untrue, like the casual mutterings of street urchins.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಭವದ್ಭಕ್ತಿಸ್ತಾವತ್ ಪ್ರಮುಖಮಧುರಾ ತ್ವತ್ ಗುಣರಸಾತ್
ಕಿಮಪ್ಯಾರೂಢಾ ಚೇದಖಿಲಪರಿತಾಪಪ್ರಶಮನೀ ।
ಪುನಶ್ಚಾನ್ತೇ ಸ್ವಾನ್ತೇ ವಿಮಲಪರಿಬೋಧೋದಯಮಿಲ-
ನ್ಮಹಾನನ್ದಾದ್ವೈತಂ ದಿಶತಿ ಕಿಮತಃ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥ್ಯಮಪರಮ್ ॥6॥
Meaning
ಭವತ್-ಭಕ್ತಿಃ - ತಾವತ್ - devotion to Thee, indeed; ಪ್ರಮುಖ-ಮಧುರಾ - in the beginning itself is sweet; ತ್ವತ್-ಗುಣ-ರಸಾತ್ - because of Thy excellent attributes; ಕಿಮ್-ಅಪಿ-ಆರೂಢಾ ಚೇತ್- - even with a little progress; ಅಖಿಲ-ಪರಿತಾಪ-ಪ್ರಶಮನೀ - it destroys all sorrows completely; ಪುನಃ-ಚ-ಅನ್ತೇ - and besides, at the end also; ಸ್ವ-ಅನ್ತೇ - in the mind; ವಿಮಲ-ಪರಿಬೋಧ-ಉದಯ-ಮಿಲತ್ - arising from the pure knowledge of identity; ಮಹಾ-ಆನನ್ದ-ಅದ್ವೈತಂ - (with Brahman),the non-dual supreme bliss; ದಿಶತಿ - (It i.e. devotion) confers; ಕಿಮ್-ಅತಃ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥ್ಯಮ್-ಅಪರಮ್ - other than this what is there to seek;
Translation
O Lord! devotion to Thee is sweet right from the beginning because of Thy glorious attributes. When such devotion becomes intense, it removes all sorrows of the devotee. At the final stage of devotion, the devotee experiences pure absolute Bliss coupled with knowledge of the Self. What more is there for one to seek?
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ವಿಧೂಯ ಕ್ಲೇಶಾನ್ಮೇ ಕುರು ಚರಣಯುಗ್ಮಂ ಧೃತರಸಂ
ಭವತ್ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೌ ಕರಮಪಿ ಚ ತೇ ಪೂಜನವಿಧೌ ।
ಭವನ್ಮೂರ್ತ್ಯಾಲೋಕೇ ನಯನಮಥ ತೇ ಪಾದತುಲಸೀ-
ಪರಿಘ್ರಾಣೇ ಘ್ರಾಣಂ ಶ್ರವಣಮಪಿ ತೇ ಚಾರುಚರಿತೇ ॥7॥
Meaning
ವಿಧೂಯ ಕ್ಲೇಶಾನ್-ಮೇ - removing all my sufferings; ಕುರು - (please) conduct in such manner (that); ಚರಣ-ಯುಗ್ಮಮ್ - (my) pair of feet; ಧೃತ-ರಸಮ್ - (may) be delighted; ಭವತ್-ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ-ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೌ - in reaching Thy temple; ಕರಮ್-ಅಪಿ ಚ - and my hands; ತೇ ಪೂಜನ-ವಿಧೌ - in worshipping Thee with rituals; ಭವತ್-ಮೂರ್ತಿ-ಆಲೋಕೇ - thy(auspicious) form, in seeing; ನಯನಮ್- - (my) eyes; ಅಥ ತೇ ಪಾದತುಲಸೀ-ಪರಿಘ್ರಾಣೇ - then, at Thy feet the offered tulsi fragrance, in smelling; ಘ್ರಾಣಮ್ - (my) nose; ಶ್ರವಣಮ್-ಅಪಿ - and also my ears; ತೇ ಚಾರು-ಚರಿತೇ - (in hearing) Thy charming deeds and excellences;
Translation
O Lord! Be graceful to remove all my afflictions so that my two feet will take delight in reaching Thy temple, my hands in performing worship to Thee,my eyes in seeing Thy enchanting form, my nose in enjoying the fragrance of the Tulsi leaves offered at Thy feet and my ears in hearing the stories of Thy glories and great deeds.

ಪ್ರಭೂತಾಧಿವ್ಯಾಧಿಪ್ರಸಭಚಲಿತೇ ಮಾಮಕಹೃದಿ
ತ್ವದೀಯಂ ತದ್ರೂಪಂ ಪರಮಸುಖಚಿದ್ರೂಪಮುದಿಯಾತ್ ।
ಉದಞ್ಚದ್ರೋಮಾಞ್ಚೋ ಗಲಿತಬಹುಹರ್ಷಾಶ್ರುನಿವಹೋ
ಯಥಾ ವಿಸ್ಮರ್ಯಾಸಂ ದುರುಪಶಮಪೀಡಾಪರಿಭವಾನ್ ॥8॥
Meaning
ಪ್ರಭೂತ-ಆಧಿ-ವ್ಯಾಧಿ-ಪ್ರಸಭ-ಚಲಿತೇ - troubled by the incessant mental and physical sufferings; ಮಾಮಕ-ಹೃದಿ - in my mind; ತ್ವದೀಯಂ ತತ್-ರೂಪಂ ಪರಮ-ಸುಖ-ಚಿತ್-ರೂಪಮ್- - Thy that form which is of the nature of Supreme Bliss Consciousness; ಉದಿಯಾತ್ - may it manifest itself; ಉದಞ್ಚ್ತ-ರೋಮಾಞ್ಚಃ - (with) exciting horripilation; ಗಲಿತ-ಬಹು-ಹರ್ಷ-ಅಶ್ರು-ನಿವಹಃ - with tears of joy (of ecstasy) flowing profusely; ಯಥಾ ವಿಸ್ಮರ್ಯಾಸಂ - so that I may forget completely (without effort); ದುರುಪಶಮ-ಪೀಡಾ-ಪರಿಭವಾನ್ - all (my) endless woes caused by incurable ailments;
Translation
O Lord! In my mind, which is now very agitated due to mental and physical afflictions, may Thy beautiful form manifest, which is of the nature of Knowledge-Bliss absolute. This will excite me with supreme devotion causing horripilation all over the body and tears flowing in ecstasy and in such a thrill, my endless sorrows will melt into insignificance.

ಮರುದ್ಗೇಹಾಧೀಶ ತ್ವಯಿ ಖಲು ಪರಾಞ್ಚೋಽಪಿ ಸುಖಿನೋ
ಭವತ್ಸ್ನೇಹೀ ಸೋಽಹಂ ಸುಬಹು ಪರಿತಪ್ಯೇ ಚ ಕಿಮಿದಮ್ ।
ಅಕೀರ್ತಿಸ್ತೇ ಮಾ ಭೂದ್ವರದ ಗದಭಾರಂ ಪ್ರಶಮಯನ್
ಭವತ್ ಭಕ್ತೋತ್ತಂಸಂ ಝಟಿತಿ ಕುರು ಮಾಂ ಕಂಸದಮನ ॥9॥
Meaning
ಮರುತ್-ಗೇಹ-ಅಧೀಶ - O Lord of Guruvayur; ತ್ವಯಿ ಖಲು ಪರಾಞ್ಚಃ-ಅಪಿ ಸುಖಿನಃ - in Thee, even those who are indifferent are (living) happily; ಭವತ್-ಸ್ನೇಹೀ ಸಃ-ಅಹಂ - (whereas) a devotee of Thine like me; ಸುಬಹು ಪರಿತಪ್ಯೇ ಚ - (am) suffering too much; ಕಿಮ-ಇದಮ್ - what is this! (how come); ಅಕೀರ್ತಿಃ-ತೇ ಮಾ ಭೂತ್ - let no disrepute come to Thee (because of this anomaly); ವರದ - O Bestower of boons!; ಗದಭಾರಂ ಪ್ರಶಮಯನ್ - eradicate (my) afflictions; ಭವತ್-ಭಕ್ತ-ಉತ್ತಂಸಂ - (make me) the best of Thy devotees; ಝಟಿತಿ ಕುರು ಮಾಂ - quickly make me; ಕಂಸದಮನ - O Slayer of Kamsa!;
Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! I find that even those who are indifferent to Thee are leading a happy life. O Bestower of boons! Even though I am an ardent devotee of Thine, I am undergoing various sufferings. Why is this so? O Lord! Will this not bring disrepute to Thee? Hence, O slayer of Kamsa! Kindly eradicate my diseases and soon make me one of your foremost devotees.

ಕಿಮುಕ್ತೈರ್ಭೂಯೋಭಿಸ್ತವ ಹಿ ಕರುಣಾ ಯಾವದುದಿಯಾ-
ದಹಂ ತಾವದ್ದೇವ ಪ್ರಹಿತವಿವಿಧಾರ್ತಪ್ರಲಪಿತಃ ।
ಪುರಃ ಕ್ಲೃಪ್ತೇ ಪಾದೇ ವರದ ತವ ನೇಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ದಿವಸಾ-
ನ್ಯಥಾಶಕ್ತಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಂ ನತಿನುತಿನಿಷೇವಾ ವಿರಚಯನ್ ॥10॥
Meaning
ಕಿಮ್-ಉಕ್ತೈಃ - ಭೂಯೋಭಿಃ- - what is the use of mere talking again and again; ತವ ಹಿ ಕರುಣಾ - Thy compassion, indeed; ಯಾವತ್-ಉದಿಯಾತ್- - till (it) arises (descends); ಅಹಂ ತಾವತ್- - till then I; ದೇವ - O Lord!; ಪ್ರಹಿತ-ವಿವಿಧ-ಆರ್ತ-ಪ್ರಲಪಿತಃ - (I will be) giving up lamentations of all kinds; ಪುರಃ ಕ್ಲೃಪ್ತೇ ಪಾದೇ - At (Thy) feet which are in front of me; ವರದ ತವ - O Bestower of Boons! (at) Thy (feet); ನೇಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ದಿವಸಾನ್- - I shall spend my days; ಯಥಾಶಕ್ತಿ - to the best of my ability; ವ್ಯಕ್ತಂ - obviously (certainly); ನತಿ-ನುತಿ-ನಿಷೇವಾ - prostrating, singing Thy praises and worshipping (Thee); ವಿರಚಯನ್ - performing (Thy worship);
Translation
O Lord! What is the use of my mere prattling? O Bestower of boons! I have resolved that till Thy Grace descends on me, giving up all my lamentations, I shall do prostration at Thy holy feet which are in front of me, sing Thy glories and do service to Thee as best as I can. Thus worship Thee.
