ನಾರಾಯಣೀಯಂ ದಶಕ 78

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತ್ರಿದಿವವರ್ಧಕಿವರ್ಧಿತಕೌಶಲಂ ತ್ರಿದಶದತ್ತಸಮಸ್ತವಿಭೂತಿಮತ್ ।
ಜಲಧಿಮಧ್ಯಗತಂ ತ್ವಮಭೂಷಯೋ ನವಪುರಂ ವಪುರಞ್ಚಿತರೋಚಿಷಾ ॥1॥

Meaning
ತ್ರಿದಿವ-ವರ್ಧಕಿ- - heaven's architect; ವರ್ಧಿತ-ಕೌಶಲಂ - excelling the skill; ತ್ರಿದಶ-ದತ್ತ- - by the gods given; ಸಮಸ್ತ-ವಿಭೂತಿಮತ್ - all the majesties; ಜಲಧಿ-ಮಧ್ಯಗತಂ - in the ocean's middle situated; ತ್ವಮ್-ಅಭೂಷಯಃ - Thou adorned; ನವ-ಪುರಂ - the new city; ವಪುಃ-ಅಞ್ಚಿತ- - by Thy form's marked; ರೋಚಿಷಾ - resplendence;

Translation
Even though Vishwakarmaa, the divine architect had employed all his excellent skills in building it and the gods had lavished all their divine embellishments on the city, which was situated in the middle of the ocean, it was adorned by the marked resplendence of Thy form.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ದದುಷಿ ರೇವತಭೂಭೃತಿ ರೇವತೀಂ ಹಲಭೃತೇ ತನಯಾಂ ವಿಧಿಶಾಸನಾತ್ ।
ಮಹಿತಮುತ್ಸವಘೋಷಮಪೂಪುಷಃ ಸಮುದಿತೈರ್ಮುದಿತೈಃ ಸಹ ಯಾದವೈಃ ॥2॥

Meaning
ದದುಷಿ - (when) was given; ರೇವತ-ಭೂಭೃತಿ - by the Revata king; ರೇವತೀಂ ಹಲಭೃತೇ - Revatee for Balaraam; ತನಯಾಂ - the daughter; ವಿಧಿ-ಶಾಸನಾತ್ - by Brahmaa's instructions; ಮಹಿತಮ್-ಉತ್ಸವ- - great festive; ಘೋಷಮ್-ಅಪೂಪುಷಃ - celebration was performed by Thee; ಸಮುದಿತೈಃ-ಮುದಿತೈಃ - who had gathered happily; ಸಹ ಯಾದವೈಃ - with the Yaadavas;

Translation
At the instructions of Brahmaa, the king of Revata gave his daughter Revatee in marriage to Balaraam. On this event with all the Yaadavaas, who had assembled, Thou happily performed a great festive celebration.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಥ ವಿದರ್ಭಸುತಾಂ ಖಲು ರುಕ್ಮಿಣೀಂ ಪ್ರಣಯಿನೀಂ ತ್ವಯಿ ದೇವ ಸಹೋದರಃ ।
ಸ್ವಯಮದಿತ್ಸತ ಚೇದಿಮಹೀಭುಜೇ ಸ್ವತಮಸಾ ತಮಸಾಧುಮುಪಾಶ್ರಯನ್ ॥3॥

Meaning
ಅಥ ವಿದರ್ಭ-ಸುತಾಂ - then, king of Vidarbh's (Bheeshmaka's) daughter; ಖಲು ರುಕ್ಮಿಣೀಂ - indeed Rukmini; ಪ್ರಣಯಿನೀಂ ತ್ವಯಿ - in love with Thee; ದೇವ ಸಹೋದರಃ - O Lord! Her brother; ಸ್ವಯಮ್-ಅದಿತ್ಸತ - of his own will decided to give; ಚೇದಿ-ಮಹೀಭುಜೇ - to the Chedi king (Shishupaal); ಸ್ವ-ತಮಸಾ - because of his Tamas guna, ignorance; ತಮ್-ಅಸಾಧುಮ್- - him the non virtuous; ಉಪಾಶ್ರಯನ್ - having made him a friend;

Translation
The daughter of the king of Vidarbh (Bheeshmaka), Rukmini was indeed in love with Thee. O Lord! Her brother,Rukmi, due to his ignorance caused by his Tamas guna, of his own will resolved to give her to the Chedi king Shishupaal. Rukmi had made friends with Shishupaal who was totally non virtuous.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಚಿರಧೃತಪ್ರಣಯಾ ತ್ವಯಿ ಬಾಲಿಕಾ ಸಪದಿ ಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷಿತಭಙ್ಗಸಮಾಕುಲಾ ।
ತವ ನಿವೇದಯಿತುಂ ದ್ವಿಜಮಾದಿಶತ್ ಸ್ವಕದನಂ ಕದನಙ್ಗವಿನಿರ್ಮಿತಮ್ ॥4॥

Meaning
ಚಿರ-ಧೃತ-ಪ್ರಣಯಾ - for long holding love; ತ್ವಯಿ ಬಾಲಿಕಾ - for Thee, the girl; ಸಪದಿ - at once; ಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷಿತ-ಭಙ್ಗ- - (her) desire being broken; ಸಮಾಕುಲಾ - (foreseeing) and distressed; ತವ ನಿವೇದಯಿತುಮ್ - to Thee, to communicate; ದ್ವಿಜಮ್-ಆದಿಶತ್ - a Braahmin instructed; ಸ್ವ-ಕದನಂ - her distress; ಕದನ-ಅಙ್ಗ- - the cruel Cupid; ವಿನಿರ್ಮಿತಮ್ - caused by;

Translation
For a long time holding love for Thee, which was brought about by the cruel Cupid, the girl at once instructed a Brahmin to acquaint Thee of her distress by the immanent threat to the fulfillment of her desire,

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ದ್ವಿಜಸುತೋಽಪಿ ಚ ತೂರ್ಣಮುಪಾಯಯೌ ತವ ಪುರಂ ಹಿ ದುರಾಶದುರಾಸದಮ್ ।
ಮುದಮವಾಪ ಚ ಸಾದರಪೂಜಿತಃ ಸ ಭವತಾ ಭವತಾಪಹೃತಾ ಸ್ವಯಮ್ ॥5॥

Meaning
ದ್ವಿಜ-ಸುತಃ-ಅಪಿ - the Brahmin boy also; ಚ ತೂರ್ಣಮ್-ಉಪಾಯಯೌ - and soon reached; ತವ ಪುರಂ ಹಿ - Thy city indeed; ದುರಾಶ-ದುರಾಸದಂ - for the wicked inaccessible; ಮುದಮ್-ಅವಾಪ ಚ - and great joy attained; ಸಾದರ-ಪೂಜಿತಃ - with the honour received; ಸ ಭವತಾ - he (was) by Thee; ಭವ-ತಾಪ-ಹೃತಾ - (who are) from worldly afflictions, the remover; ಸ್ವಯಮ್ - Thyself;

Translation
The Brahmin boy soon reached Thy city which is inaccessible to wicked minded people. He was highly delighted and attained great joy on being received with honour by Thyself the remover of the worldly travails and afflictions of men.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸ ಚ ಭವನ್ತಮವೋಚತ ಕುಣ್ಡಿನೇ ನೃಪಸುತಾ ಖಲು ರಾಜತಿ ರುಕ್ಮಿಣೀ ।
ತ್ವಯಿ ಸಮುತ್ಸುಕಯಾ ನಿಜಧೀರತಾರಹಿತಯಾ ಹಿ ತಯಾ ಪ್ರಹಿತೋಽಸ್ಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ॥6॥

Meaning
ಸ ಚ - he and; ಭವನ್ತಮ್-ಅವೋಚತ - to Thee said; ಕುಣ್ಡಿನೇ - in Kundina; ನೃಪ-ಸುತಾ ಖಲು - the king's daughter indeed; ರಾಜತಿ ರುಕ್ಮಿಣೀ - shines Rukmini; ತ್ವಯಿ ಸಮುತ್ಸುಕಯಾ - in Thee deeply in love; ನಿಜ-ಧೀರತಾ-ರಹಿತಯಾ - her own restrain loosing; ಹಿ ತಯಾ ಪ್ರಹಿತಃ- - indeed by her sent; ಅಸ್ಮಿ-ಅಹಮ್ - am I;

Translation
And he said to Thee 'In Kundinaa (capital of Vidarbha) lives the noble princess Rukmini. She is deeply in love with Thee. She who has lost her own restrain has indeed sent me here.'

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತವ ಹೃತಾಽಸ್ಮಿ ಪುರೈವ ಗುಣೈರಹಂ ಹರತಿ ಮಾಂ ಕಿಲ ಚೇದಿನೃಪೋಽಧುನಾ ।
ಅಯಿ ಕೃಪಾಲಯ ಪಾಲಯ ಮಾಮಿತಿ ಪ್ರಜಗದೇ ಜಗದೇಕಪತೇ ತಯಾ ॥7॥

Meaning
ತವ ಹೃತಾ-ಅಸ್ಮಿ - by Thee captivated am I; ಪುರಾ-ಏವ - since long even; ಗುಣೈಃ-ಅಹಂ - by (Thy) excellences, I; ಹರತಿ ಮಾಂ ಕಿಲ - capturing me indeed is; ಚೇದಿ-ನೃಪಃ-ಅಧುನಾ - the Chedi king now; ಅಯಿ ಕೃಪಾಲಯ (ಕೃಪಾ-ಆಲಯ) - O Abode of Compassion!; ಪಾಲಯ ಮಾಮ್-ಇತಿ - save me, thus; ಪ್ರಜಗದೇ - was prayed; ಜಗದೇಕಪತೇ (ಜಗತ್-ಏಕ-ಪತೇ) - O Lord of the worlds!; ತಯಾ - by her;

Translation
From long since I am a captive of Thy excellences. Now the king of Chedi (Shishupaal) is going to captivate me. O Abode of Compassion! Save me.' O Lord of the worlds! Thus she prayed to Thee.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಶರಣಾಂ ಯದಿ ಮಾಂ ತ್ವಮುಪೇಕ್ಷಸೇ ಸಪದಿ ಜೀವಿತಮೇವ ಜಹಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ।
ಇತಿ ಗಿರಾ ಸುತನೋರತನೋತ್ ಭೃಶಂ ಸುಹೃದಯಂ ಹೃದಯಂ ತವ ಕಾತರಮ್ ॥8॥

Meaning
ಅಶರಣಾಮ್ - helpless; ಯದಿ ಮಾಂ - if me; ತ್ವಮ್-ಉಪೇಕ್ಷಸೇ - Thou forsake; ಸಪದಿ ಜೀವಿತಮ್-ಏವ - soon life itself; ಜಹಾಮಿ-ಅಹಮ್ - will kill I; ಇತಿ ಗಿರಾ ಸುತನೋಃ- - these words of the fair one; ಅತನೋತ್ ಭೃಶಂ - brought about deep; ಸುಹೃತ್-ಅಯಂ - by this good hearted (Braahmin); ಹೃದಯಂ ತವ ಕಾತರಮ್ - (in) heart Thy agitation;

Translation
If Thou will forsake me, the helpless one, I will certainly end my life soon.' This massage of the fair Rukmini from the good hearted Braahmin, brought about deep agitation in Thy heart.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಕಥಯಸ್ತ್ವಮಥೈನಮಯೇ ಸಖೇ ತದಧಿಕಾ ಮಮ ಮನ್ಮಥವೇದನಾ ।
ನೃಪಸಮಕ್ಷಮುಪೇತ್ಯ ಹರಾಮ್ಯಹಂ ತದಯಿ ತಾಂ ದಯಿತಾಮಸಿತೇಕ್ಷಣಾಮ್ ॥9॥

Meaning
ಅಕಥಯಃ- - told; ತ್ವಮ್-ಅಥ-ಏನಮ್- - Thou then to him; ಅಯೇ ಸಖೇ - O friend!; ತತ್-ಅಧಿಕಾ - more than her; ಮಮ ಮನ್ಮಥ-ವೇದನಾ - (are) my love pangs; ನೃಪ ಸಮಕ್ಷಮ್- - in the front of the kings; ಉಪೇತ್ಯ ಹರಾಮಿ-ಅಹಂ - coming there will take away I; ತತ್-ಅಯಿ ತಾಂ - so it is, O (friend), that; ದಯಿತಾಮ್-ಅಸಿತ-ಈಕ್ಷಣಾಮ್ - dear dark eyed one;

Translation
Thou then told him, 'O friend! My love pangs are more intense than hers. Therefore, I will come, and in presence of the kings, take away the dear dark eyed one.'

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಪ್ರಮುದಿತೇನ ಚ ತೇನ ಸಮಂ ತದಾ ರಥಗತೋ ಲಘು ಕುಣ್ಡಿನಮೇಯಿವಾನ್ ।
ಗುರುಮರುತ್ಪುರನಾಯಕ ಮೇ ಭವಾನ್ ವಿತನುತಾಂ ತನುತಾಂ ನಿಖಿಲಾಪದಾಮ್ ॥10॥

Meaning
ಪ್ರಮುದಿತೇನ ಚ - and with the delighted; ತೇನ ಸಮಂ ತದಾ - with him then; ರಥ-ಗತಃ ಲಘು - getting into the chariot immediately; ಕುಣ್ಡಿನಮ್-ಏಯಿವಾನ್ - to Kundina (Thou) reached; ಗುರುಮರುತ್ಪುರನಾಯಕ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ಮೇ ಭವಾನ್ - of me, Thou; ವಿತನುತಾಂ ತನುತಾಂ - deign to bring about relief; ನಿಖಿಲ-ಆಪದಾಮ್ - from all my afflictions;

Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! Along with the highly delighted Braahmin, Thou immediately got into the chariot and soon reached Kundina. May Thou deign to bring about relief for me from all my afflictions.
