ರಾಮೇಽಥ ಗೋಕುಲಗತೇ ಪ್ರಮದಾಪ್ರಸಕ್ತೇ
ಹೂತಾನುಪೇತಯಮುನಾದಮನೇ ಮದಾನ್ಧೇ ।
ಸ್ವೈರಂ ಸಮಾರಮತಿ ಸೇವಕವಾದಮೂಢೋ
ದೂತಂ ನ್ಯಯುಙ್ಕ್ತ ತವ ಪೌಣ್ಡ್ರಕವಾಸುದೇವಃ ॥1॥
Meaning
ರಾಮೇ-ಅಥ - Thou (when) Balaraam; ಗೋಕುಲ-ಗತೇ - had gone to Gokul; ಪ್ರಮದಾ-ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತೇ - with the damsels sporting; ಹೂತ-ಅನುಪೇತ- - when called , not coming; ಯಮುನಾ-ದಮನೇ - Yamunaa to subdue; ಮದಾನ್ಧೇ - intoxicated (Balaraam); ಸ್ವೈರಂ ಸಮಾರಮತಿ - at will sporting around; ಸೇವಕ-ವಾದ್-ಮೂಢಃ - subordinate's advice misled by; ದೂತಂ ನ್ಯಯುಙ್ಕ್ತ - messenger sent; ತವ - to Thee; ಪೌಣ್ಡ್ರಕ-ವಾಸುದೇವ - Paundraka Vaasudeva;
Translation
Then when intoxicated Balaraam was sporting happily and at will with the damsels, he called over Yamuna to him. When Yamuna did not comply to his wishes he subdued her by turning her course. At that time Paundraka Vaasudeva misled by the ill advice of his subordinates, sent a messenger to Thee.

ನಾರಾಯಣೋಽಹಮವತೀರ್ಣ ಇಹಾಸ್ಮಿ ಭೂಮೌ
ಧತ್ಸೇ ಕಿಲ ತ್ವಮಪಿ ಮಾಮಕಲಕ್ಷಣಾನಿ ।
ಉತ್ಸೃಜ್ಯ ತಾನಿ ಶರಣಂ ವ್ರಜ ಮಾಮಿತಿ ತ್ವಾಂ
ದೂತೋ ಜಗಾದ ಸಕಲೈರ್ಹಸಿತಃ ಸಭಾಯಾಮ್ ॥2॥
Meaning
ನಾರಾಯಣಃ-ಅಹಮ್- - Naaraayana am I; ಅವತೀರ್ಣ ಇಹ-ಅಸ್ಮಿ ಭೂಮೌ - descended here have I on earth; ಧತ್ಸೇ ಕಿಲ ತ್ವಮ್-ಅಪಿ - bear indeed you also; ಮಾಮಕ-ಲಕ್ಷಣಾನಿ - my emblems; ಉತ್ಸೃಜ್ಯ ತಾನಿ - abandon them; ಶರಣಂ ವ್ರಜ ಮಾಮ್-ಇತಿ - surrender take unto me, thus; ತ್ವಾಂ ದೂತಃ ಜಗಾದ - to Thee the messenger said; ಸಕಲೈಃ-ಹಸಿತಃ - while every one laughed; ಸಭಾಯಾಮ್ - in the assembly;
Translation
I am Naaraayana and have descended here on this earth. It seems you too bear my emblems. Abandon them and surrender unto me.' Thus the messenger said to Thee to the amusement of all in the assembly.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ದೂತೇಽಥ ಯಾತವತಿ ಯಾದವಸೈನಿಕೈಸ್ತ್ವಂ
ಯಾತೋ ದದರ್ಶಿಥ ವಪುಃ ಕಿಲ ಪೌಣ್ಡ್ರಕೀಯಮ್ ।
ತಾಪೇನ ವಕ್ಷಸಿ ಕೃತಾಙ್ಕಮನಲ್ಪಮೂಲ್ಯ-
ಶ್ರೀಕೌಸ್ತುಭಂ ಮಕರಕುಣ್ಡಲಪೀತಚೇಲಮ್ ॥3॥
Meaning
ದೂತೇ-ಅಥ ಯಾತವತಿ - the messenger, when had departed; ಯಾವದ-ಸೈನಿಕೈಃ-ತ್ವಂ - with the Yaadava army Thou; ಯಾತಃ ದದರ್ಶಿಥ - went and saw; ವಪುಃ ಕಿಲ ಪೌಣ್ಡ್ರಕೀಯಮ್ - the body indeed of Poundraka; ತಾಪೇನ ವಕ್ಷಸಿ - by heat on the chest; ಕೃತ-ಅಙ್ಕಮ್- - was made a mark; ಅನಲ್ಪ-ಮೂಲ್ಯ- - not of little cost; ಶ್ರೀ ಕೌಸ್ತುಭಂ - Shri Kaustubha; ಮಕರ-ಕುಣ್ಡಲ - fish shaped ear ornaments; ಪೀತ-ಚೇಲಮ್ - (and) yellow silk garment;
Translation
After the messenger had departed, Thou went with the Yaadava army to the capital of Paundraka. There Thou saw the ridiculous form of Paundraka's body marked by a burnt sign (representing Srivatsa) an invaluable gem round his neck (representing the Kaustubha) and wearing also fish shaped ear ornaments and a yellow silk garment.

ಕಾಲಾಯಸಂ ನಿಜಸುದರ್ಶನಮಸ್ಯತೋಽಸ್ಯ
ಕಾಲಾನಲೋತ್ಕರಕಿರೇಣ ಸುದರ್ಶನೇನ ।

ತನ್ಮಿತ್ರಕಾಶಿಪಶಿರೋಽಪಿ ಚಕರ್ಥ ಕಾಶ್ಯಾಮ್ ॥4॥
Meaning
ಕಾಲ-ಆಯಾಸಂ - of black iron; ನಿಜ-ಸುದರ್ಶನಮ್- - his own Sudarshana; ಅಸ್ಯತಃ-ಅಸ್ಯ - throwing, his; ಕಾಲ-ಅನಲ-ಉತ್ಕರ- - cosmic fire sparks; ಕಿರೇಣ ಸುದರ್ಶನೇನ್ - emitted by the Sudarshana; ಶೀರ್ಷಂ ಚಕರ್ತಿಥ - (his) head cut off; ಮಮರ್ದಿಥ ಚ ಅಸ್ಯ ಸೇನಾಂ - and crushed his army; ತತ್-ಮಿತ್ರ-ಕಾಶಿಪ- - his friend Kaashi's; ಶಿರಃ-ಅಪಿ ಚಕರ್ಥ - head also cut off; ಕಾಶ್ಯಾಮ್ - (and sent) into Kaashi;
Translation
Paundraka threw his own Sudershana made of black iron at Thee. Thou then cut off his head by Thy Sudarshana which was emitting sparks of cosmic fire, and crushed his army. Thou also cur off the head of his friend Kaashi and hurled it into Kaashi itself.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಜಾಲ್ಯೇನ ಬಾಲಕಗಿರಾಽಪಿ ಕಿಲಾಹಮೇವ
ಶ್ರೀವಾಸುದೇವ ಇತಿ ರೂಢಮತಿಶ್ಚಿರಂ ಸಃ ।
ಸಾಯುಜ್ಯಮೇವ ಭವದೈಕ್ಯಧಿಯಾ ಗತೋಽಭೂತ್
ಕೋ ನಾಮ ಕಸ್ಯ ಸುಕೃತಂ ಕಥಮಿತ್ಯವೇಯಾತ್ ॥5॥
Meaning
ಜಾಲ್ಯೇನ್ - due to stupidity; ಬಾಲಕ-ಗಿರಾ-ಅಪಿ - by immature words even; ಕಿಲ-ಅಹಮ್-ಏವ - indeed I only (am); ಶ್ರೀ-ವಾಸುದೇವ ಇತಿ - Shree Vaasudeva, thus; ರೂಢಮತಿಃ-ಚಿರಂ ಸಃ - firmly believing for long he; ಸಾಯುಜ್ಯಮ್-ಏವ - union (with Thee) only; ಭವತ್-ಐಕ್ಯ-ಧಿಯಾ - with Thee oneness by thinking; ಗತಃ-ಅಭೋತ್ - attained; ಕಃ ನಾಮ - who indeed (knows); ಕಸ್ಯ ಸುಕೃತಂ - whose good deeds; ಕಥಮ್-ಇತಿ-ಅವೇಯಾತ್ - in which way (come about), knows;
Translation
It may be due to stupidity or due to believing the immature words of young people that Paundraka for long firmly believed in his mind that he himself was indeed Vaasudeva. This thought made him constantly be in oneness with Thee and so he attained Saayujya (union with Thee). Who knows whose good deeds lead him where and to what credit?

ಕಾಶೀಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ ತನಯೋಽಥ ಸುದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಖ್ಯಃ
ಶರ್ವಂ ಪ್ರಪೂಜ್ಯ ಭವತೇ ವಿಹಿತಾಭಿಚಾರಃ ।
ಕೃತ್ಯಾನಲಂ ಕಮಪಿ ಬಾಣ್ರರಣಾತಿಭೀತೈ-
ರ್ಭೂತೈಃ ಕಥಞ್ಚನ ವೃತೈಃ ಸಮಮಭ್ಯಮುಞ್ಚತ್ ॥6॥
Meaning
ಕಾಶೀ-ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ - Kaashi king's; ತನಯಃ-ಅಥ - son then; ಸುದಕ್ಷಿಣ-ಆಖ್ಯಃ - Sudakshina by name; ಶರ್ವಂ ಪ್ರಪೂಜ್ಯ - Shankara worshipping well; ಭವತೇ ವಿಹಿತ- - in The performed; ಅಭಿಚಾರಃ - black magic; ಕೃತ್ಯಾ-ಅನಲಂ - Krityaa fire; ಕಮ್-ಅಪಿ - some (fierce and evil); ಬಾಣ-ರಣ-ಅತಿ-ಭೀತೈಃ- - in Baana's battle very frightened; ಭೂತೈಃ ಕಥಞ್ಚನ ವೃತೈಃ - by those Bhootas somehow followed by; ಸಮಮ್-ಅಭ್ಯಮುಞ್ಚತ್ - with them released;
Translation
Then the son of the king of Kaashi, called Sudakshina fervently worshipped Shankara. He performed black magic on Thee and released an evil fierce fire named Krityaa. He also somehow mobilised the Bhootas who were frightened during the battle Thou fought with Baana.

Meaning
ತಾಲ-ಪ್ರಮಾಣ-ಚರಣಾಮ್- - palm trees like long legged; ಅಖಿಲಂ ದಹನ್ತೀಂ - everything burning; ಕೃತ್ಯಾಂ ವಿಲೋಕ್ಯ - Krityaa seeing; ಚಕಿತೈಃ - by the frightened; ಕಥಿತಃ-ಅಪಿ ಪೌರೈಃ - Thou being informed even by citizens; ದ್ಯೂತ-ಉತ್ಸವೇ - in the dice game; ಕಿಮ್-ಅಪಿ ನೋ ಚಲಿತಃ - in the least not moving; ವಿಭೋ ತ್ವಂ - O Lord Thou!; ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವಸ್ಥಮ್-ಆಶು - placed near by immediately; ವಿಸಸರ್ಜಿಥ - deployed; ಕಾಲ-ಚಕ್ರಮ್ - Sudarshana discus;
Translation
The frightened citizens saw the Krityaa fire with long legs like palm trees burning everything and they informed Thee of this. Thou without stirring from Thy seat at the game of dice in which Thou were engrossed, deployed O Lord! Thy Sudarshana discus which was ready at hand.

ಅಭ್ಯಾಪತತ್ಯಮಿತಧಾಮ್ನಿ ಭವನ್ಮಹಾಸ್ತ್ರೇ
ಹಾ ಹೇತಿ ವಿದ್ರುತವತೀ ಖಲು ಘೋರಕೃತ್ಯಾ।
ರೋಷಾತ್ ಸುದಕ್ಷಿಣಮದಕ್ಷಿಣಚೇಷ್ಟಿತಂ ತಂ
ಪುಪ್ಲೋಷ ಚಕ್ರಮಪಿ ಕಾಶಿಪುರೀಮಧಾಕ್ಷೀತ್ ॥8॥
Meaning
ಅಭ್ಯಾಪತತಿ- - dashing; ಅಮಿತ-ಧಾಮ್ನಿ - the ever brilliant; ಭವತ್-ಮಹಾ-ಅಸ್ತ್ರೇ - Thy great weapon; ಹಾ ಹಾ-ಇತಿ - oh oh thus shouting; ವಿದ್ರುತವತೀ - running away; ಖಲು ಘೋರ-ಕೃತ್ಯಾ - indeed the terrible Krityaa; ರೋಷಾತ್ ಸುದಕ್ಷಿಣಮ್- - in anger Sudakshina; ಅದಕ್ಷಿಣ-ಚೇಷ್ಟಿತಂ ತಂ - the impious actioned, him; ಪುಪ್ಲೋಷ ಚಕ್ರಮ್-ಅಪಿ - burnt down discus also; ಕಾಶಿ-ಪುರೀಮ್-ಅಧಾಕ್ಷೀತ್ - the Kaashi city burnt down;
Translation
Thy ever brilliant great weapon dashed towards Krityaa. The terrible Krityaa ran away shouting in distress and in anger burnt down the impious actioned Sudakshina himself. Thy Sudarshana discus in turn burnt down the city of Kaashi.

ಸ ಖಲು ವಿವಿದೋ ರಕ್ಷೋಘಾತೇ ಕೃತೋಪಕೃತಿಃ ಪುರಾ
ತವ ತು ಕಲಯಾ ಮೃತ್ಯುಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತುಂ ತದಾ ಖಲತಾಂ ಗತಃ ।
ನರಕಸಚಿವೋ ದೇಶಕ್ಲೇಶಂ ಸೃಜನ್ ನಗರಾನ್ತಿಕೇ
ಝಟಿತಿ ಹಲಿನಾ ಯುಧ್ಯನ್ನದ್ಧಾ ಪಪಾತ ತಲಾಹತಃ ॥9॥
Meaning
ಸ ಖಲು ವಿವಿದಃ - he indeed Vividha; ರಕ್ಷೋಘಾತೇ - in the Raakshasa's killing; ಕೃತ-ಉಪಕೃತಿಃ ಪುರಾ - had given help long ago; ತವ ತು ಕಲಯಾ - by Thy part incarnation; ಮೃತ್ಯುಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತುಂ - death to get; ತದಾ ಖಲತಾಂ ಗತಃ - then to wickedness took; ನರಕ-ಸಚಿವಃ - Narakaasura's minister; ದೇಶ-ಕ್ಲೇಶಂ ಸೃಜನ್ - to public suffering causing; ನಗರ-ಅನ್ತಿಕೇ - near the town of Dwaarika; ಝಟಿತಿ ಹಲಿನಾ - immediately with Balaraama; ಯುಧ್ಯನ್-ಅದ್ಧಾ - fighting with ease; ಪಪಾತ-ತಲ-ಆಹತಃ - fell down hit by the palm;
Translation
Long ago Vividha, the monkey who had helped Thee in killing the Raakshasas (during Thy incarnation as Raama) nursed the desire to be killed by Thy part incarnation. As a minister of Narakaasura, he took to evil ways and started creating sufferings for the people in the vicinity of Dwaarika. In a fight with Balaraama, he was killed with ease by a blow of Balaraam's hand in no time.

ಯಾತಸ್ತದ್ವಾಕ್ಯರೋಷೋದ್ಧೃತಕರಿನಗರೋ ಮೋಚಯಾಮಾಸ ರಾಮಃ ।
ತೇ ಘಾತ್ಯಾಃ ಪಾಣ್ಡವೇಯೈರಿತಿ ಯದುಪೃತನಾಂ ನಾಮುಚಸ್ತ್ವಂ ತದಾನೀಂ
ತಂ ತ್ವಾಂ ದುರ್ಬೋಧಲೀಲಂ ಪವನಪುರಪತೇ ತಾಪಶಾನ್ತ್ಯೈ ನಿಷೇವೇ ॥10॥
Meaning
ಸಾಮ್ಬಂ - Saamba (who was); ಕೌರವ್ಯ-ಪುತ್ರೀ-ಹರಣ- - (due to) Kuru's daughter's abducting; ನಿಯಮಿತಂ - in captivity; ಸಾನ್ತ್ವನಾ-ಅರ್ಥೀ - to pacify; ಕುರೂಣಾಂ ಯಾತಃ- - the Kurus went; ತತ್-ವಾಕ್ಯ-ರೋಷ- - by their talks enraged; ಉದ್ಧೃತ-ಕರಿನಗರಃ - lifted up Hastinaapur; ಮೋಚಯಾಮಾಸ ರಾಮಃ - (and) released (Saamba) Balaraam; ತೇ ಘಾತ್ಯಾಃ - they, the Kurus should be killed; ಪಾಣ್ಡವೇಯೈಃ-ಇತಿ - by the Paandavas, thus; ಯದು-ಪೃತನಾಂ - the Yadu army; ನ-ಅಮುಚಃ-ತ್ವಂ ತದಾನೀಂ - did not send Thee, then; ತಂ ತ್ವಾಂ ದುರ್ಬೋಧಲೀಲಂ - that Thou of unfathomable sportings; ಪವನಪುರಪತೇ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ತಾಪ-ಶಾನ್ತ್ಯೈ ನಿಷೇವೇ - for the sufferings to be removed (I) worship;
Translation
Saamba was a captive of the Kurus because he had abducted their daughter. Balaraam went to the Kurus to pacify them but was enraged by their talks and lifted up Hastinaapur and released Saamba. Thou did not send the Yaadava army to confront them, because Thou wanted that the Kurus be killed by the Paandavas. Thou whose sporting ways are unfathomable, O Lord of Guruvaayur! I worship Thee so as to remove my sufferings.
