ನಾರಾಯಣೀಯಂ ದಶಕ 57

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ರಾಮಸಖಃ ಕ್ವಾಪಿ ದಿನೇ ಕಾಮದ ಭಗವನ್ ಗತೋ ಭವಾನ್ ವಿಪಿನಮ್ ।
ಸೂನುಭಿರಪಿ ಗೋಪಾನಾಂ ಧೇನುಭಿರಭಿಸಂವೃತೋ ಲಸದ್ವೇಷಃ ॥1॥

Meaning
ರಾಮಸಖಃ - in Balaraama's company; ಕ್ವಾಪಿ ದಿನೇ - one day; ಕಾಮದ ಭಗವನ್ - Thou the fulfiller of wishes, O Lord!; ಗತಃ ಭವಾನ್ - went Thee; ವಿಪಿನಮ್ - to the forest; ಸೂನುಭಿಃ-ಅಪಿ - with the sons,also; ಗೋಪಾನಾಮ್ - of the Gopas; ಧೇನುಭಿಃ-ಅಭಿಸಂವೃತಃ - (and) by the cows surrounded; ಲಸತ್-ವೇಷಃ - in a bedecked attire;

Translation
O Lord! Thou the fulfiller of wishes, one day in a bedecked attire, with Balaraama, went to the forest. The sons of the Gopas and the cows also surrounded and followed Thee.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸನ್ದರ್ಶಯನ್ ಬಲಾಯ ಸ್ವೈರಂ ವೃನ್ದಾವನಶ್ರಿಯಂ ವಿಮಲಾಮ್ ।
ಕಾಣ್ಡೀರೈಃ ಸಹ ಬಾಲೈರ್ಭಾಣ್ಡೀರಕಮಾಗಮೋ ವಟಂ ಕ್ರೀಡನ್ ॥2॥

Meaning
ಸನ್ದರ್ಶಯನ್ - showing around; ಬಲಾಯ ಸ್ವೈರಂ - to Balaraama joyfully; ವೃನ್ದಾವನ-ಶ್ರಿಯಂ - the beauty of Vrindaavana; ವಿಮಲಾಮ್ - (which was so) pure; ಕಾಣ್ಡೀರೈಃ ಸಹ - with sticks (carrying); ಬಾಲೈಃ- - (with) the children (Thou reached); ಭಾಣ್ಡೀರಕಮ್- - (the tree named) Bhaandeeraka; ಆಗಮಃ - reached; ವಟಂ ಕ್ರೀಡನ್ - the tree, playing;

Translation
Joyfully showing around the unspoilt pure beauty of Vrindaavana to Balaraama, accompanied by the cowherd boys, carrying a staff in a playful mood, Thou reached the banyan tree called Bhaandeeraka.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತಾವತ್ತಾವಕನಿಧನಸ್ಪೃಹಯಾಲುರ್ಗೋಪಮೂರ್ತಿರದಯಾಲುಃ ।
ದೈತ್ಯಃ ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬನಾಮಾ ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬಬಾಹುಂ ಭವನ್ತಮಾಪೇದೇ ॥3॥

Meaning
ತಾವತ್- - then; ತಾವಕ-ನಿಧನ- - Thy death; ಸ್ಪೃಹಯಾಲುಃ-ಗೋಪಮೂರ್ತಿಃ - desiring, in the disguise of a Gopa; ಅದಯಾಲುಃ ದೈತ್ಯಃ - a pitiless demon; ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬ-ನಾಮಾ - Pralamba named; ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬ-ಬಾಹುಂ ಭವನ್ತಮ್- - the long armed Thee; ಆಪೇದೇ - approached;

Translation
Then, the pitiless demon, approached Thee in the disguise of a Gopa, desiring to kill Thee, who are with long arms.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಜಾನನ್ನಪ್ಯವಿಜಾನನ್ನಿವ ತೇನ ಸಮಂ ನಿಬದ್ಧಸೌಹಾರ್ದಃ ।
ವಟನಿಕಟೇ ಪಟುಪಶುಪವ್ಯಾಬದ್ಧಂ ದ್ವನ್ದ್ವಯುದ್ಧಮಾರಬ್ಧಾಃ ॥4॥

Meaning
ಜಾನನ್-ಅಪಿ - knowing though; ಅವಿಜಾನನ್-ಇವ - not knowing as though; ತೇನ ಸಮಂ - with him; ನಿಬದ್ಧ-ಸೌಹಾರ್ದಃ - cultivating friendship; ವಟ-ನಿಕಟೇ - near the banyan tree; ಪಟು-ಪಶುಪ- - by skilled cowherd boys; ವ್ಯಾಬದ್ಧಂ - formed; ದ್ವನ್ದ್ವ-ಯುದ್ಧಮ್- - wrestling; ಆರಬ್ಧಾಃ - started (Thee);

Translation
In spite of knowing fully well of his intention, seemingly unaware of his designs, Thou cultivated friendship with him. Then near the banyan tree, arranging the game of wrestling with the cowherd boys who were skilled in that art, Thou started a duel.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಗೋಪಾನ್ ವಿಭಜ್ಯ ತನ್ವನ್ ಸಙ್ಘಂ ಬಲಭದ್ರಕಂ ಭವತ್ಕಮಪಿ ।
ತ್ವದ್ಬಲಭೀರುಂ ದೈತ್ಯಂ ತ್ವದ್ಬಲಗತಮನ್ವಮನ್ಯಥಾ ಭಗವನ್ ॥5॥

Meaning
ಗೋಪಾನ್ ವಿಭಜ್ಯ - the cowherd boys dividing; ತನ್ವನ್ ಸಙ್ಘಂ - into two teams; ಬಲಭದ್ರಕಂ - of Balaraama; ಭವತ್ಕಮ್-ಅಪಿ - and of Thee also; ತ್ವತ್-ಬಲ-ಭೀರುಂ - Thy strength afraid of; ದೈತ್ಯಂ - the demon; ತ್ವದ್-ಬಲ-ಗತಮ್- - in Thy team joining; ಅನ್ವಮನ್ಯಥಾ - (Thou) agreed; ಭಗವನ್ - O Lord!;

Translation
O Lord! Thou divided the cowherd boys into two teams led by Balaraama and Thyself. The Asura was aware of Thy strength and being afraid wanted to join Thy team, to which Thou agreed.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಕಲ್ಪಿತವಿಜೇತೃವಹನೇ ಸಮರೇ ಪರಯೂಥಗಂ ಸ್ವದಯಿತತರಮ್ ।
ಶ್ರೀದಾಮಾನಮಧತ್ಥಾಃ ಪರಾಜಿತೋ ಭಕ್ತದಾಸತಾಂ ಪ್ರಥಯನ್ ॥6॥

Meaning
ಕಲ್ಪಿತ- - as per rules (arranged); ವಿಜೇತೃ-ವಹನೇ - the victorious be carried; ಸಮರೇ ಪರಯೂಥಗಂ - in the fight, by one of the other team; ಸ್ವದಯಿತತರಮ್ - very dear to Thee; ಶ್ರೀದಾಮಾನಮ್- - Shridaamaa; ಅಧತ್ಥಾಃ ಪರಾಜಿತಃ - Thou carried, (Thou) being defeated; ಭಕ್ತ-ದಾಸತಾಂ - (Thou) as a servant of Thy devotees; ಪ್ರಥಯನ್ - establishing /demonstrating;

Translation
As per the rules of the game, as was arranged, the victor is to be carried by the vanquished. Thou being defeated, Thou carried the very dear friend Shreedaamaa, there by demonstrating to the world that Thou are at the service of Thy devotees.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಏವಂ ಬಹುಷು ವಿಭೂಮನ್ ಬಾಲೇಷು ವಹತ್ಸು ವಾಹ್ಯಮಾನೇಷು ।
ರಾಮವಿಜಿತಃ ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬೋ ಜಹಾರ ತಂ ದೂರತೋ ಭವದ್ಭೀತ್ಯಾ ॥7॥

Meaning
ಏವಂ ಬಹುಷು - thus in many; ವಿಭೂಮನ್ - O Infinite One!; ಬಾಲೇಷು ವಹತ್ಸು - when the children were carrying; ವಾಹ್ಯಮಾನೇಷು - and were being carried; ರಾಮ-ವಿಜಿತಃ - by Balaraama defeated; ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬಃ ಜಹಾರ ತಂ - Pralamba (the demon), took him; ದೂರತಃ ಭವತ್-ಭೀತ್ಯಾ - far away for Thy fear;

Translation
Thus the many cowherd boys were carrying and were being carried. In the course, Pralamba was defeated by Balaraama and so he carried Balaraama far away from Thy sight out of fear of Thee.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತ್ವದ್ದೂರಂ ಗಮಯನ್ತಂ ತಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಹಲಿನಿ ವಿಹಿತಗರಿಮಭರೇ ।
ದೈತ್ಯಃ ಸ್ವರೂಪಮಾಗಾದ್ಯದ್ರೂಪಾತ್ ಸ ಹಿ ಬಲೋಽಪಿ ಚಕಿತೋಽಭೂತ್ ॥8॥

Meaning
ತ್ವತ್-ದೂರಂ ಗಮಯನ್ತಮ್ - from Thee far going; ತಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಹಲಿನಿ - seeing him when Balaraama; ವಿಹಿತ-ಗರಿಮ-ಭರೇ - took on increased weight; ದೈತ್ಯಃ ಸ್ವರೂಪಮ್- - the demon to his own form; ಆಗಾತ್-ಯತ್-ರೂಪಾತ್ - went to by which form; ಸ ಹಿ ಬಲಃ-ಅಪಿ - he indeed Balaraama also; ಚಕಿತಃ-ಅಭೂತ್ - wonderstruck became;

Translation
Balaraama saw that he was being carried far away, so he increased his weight by his divine power. The demon then took to his own real form, seeing which even Balaraam was wonderstruck.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಉಚ್ಚತಯಾ ದೈತ್ಯತನೋಸ್ತ್ವನ್ಮುಖಮಾಲೋಕ್ಯ ದೂರತೋ ರಾಮಃ ।
ವಿಗತಭಯೋ ದೃಢಮುಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ ಭೃಶದುಷ್ಟಂ ಸಪದಿ ಪಿಷ್ಟವಾನೇನಮ್ ॥9॥

Meaning
ಉಚ್ಚತಯಾ ದೈತ್ಯ-ತನೋಃ- - because of the height of the Asura's body; ತ್ವತ್-ಮುಖಮ್- - Thy face; ಆಲೋಕ್ಯ - seeing; ದೂರತಃ ರಾಮಃ - from a distance, Balaraam; ವಿಗತ-ಭಯಃ - overcoming the fear; ದೃಢ-ಮುಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ - by a fierce fist; ಭೃಶ-ದುಷ್ಟಂ ಸಪದಿ - the extremely wicked (him), quickly; ಪಿಷ್ಟ್ವಾನ್ ಏನಮ್ - crushed him;

Translation
The Asura's height was great and so being carried on his shoulder, Balaraam could see Thee from a distance. At Thy sight Balaraam shunned all fear and with a firm fist struck the demon and quickly crushed him to a pulp.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಹತ್ವಾ ದಾನವವೀರಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಂ ಬಲಮಾಲಿಲಿಙ್ಗಿಥ ಪ್ರೇಮ್ಣಾ ।
ತಾವನ್ಮಿಲತೋರ್ಯುವಯೋಃ ಶಿರಸಿ ಕೃತಾ ಪುಷ್ಪವೃಷ್ಟಿರಮರಗಣೈಃ ॥10॥

Meaning
ಹತ್ವಾ ದಾನವ-ವೀರಂ - killing the clever Asura; ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಂ ಬಲಮ್- - returned Balaraam; ಆಲಿಲಿಙ್ಗಿಥ - (Thou) embraced; ಪ್ರೇಮ್ಣಾ ತಾವತ- - lovingly, at that time; ಮಿಲತೋಃ-ಯುವಯೋಃ - when Thou two were meeting; ಶಿರಸಿ ಕೃತಾ - on Thy heads was done; ಪುಷ್ಪವೃಷ್ಟಿಃ- - flower showering; ಅಮರ-ಗಣೈಃ - by the gods/ devas;

Translation
Balaraama returned after killing the clever Asura and Thou embraced him lovingly. As Thou two were meeting the gods and devas showered flowers on Thy heads.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಆಲಮ್ಬೋ ಭುವನಾನಾಂ ಪ್ರಾಲಮ್ಬಂ ನಿಧನಮೇವಮಾರಚಯನ್ ।
ಕಾಲಂ ವಿಹಾಯ ಸದ್ಯೋ ಲೋಲಮ್ಬರುಚೇ ಹರೇ ಹರೇಃ ಕ್ಲೇಶಾನ್ ॥11॥

Meaning
ಆಲಮ್ಬಃ ಭುವನಾನಾಂ - the support of the worlds; ಪ್ರಾಲಮ್ಬಂ ನಿಧನಮ್- - Pralambaasura's killing; ಏವಮ್-ಆರಚಯನ್ - carrying out; ಕಾಲಂ ವಿಹಾಯ - without delay; ಸದ್ಯಃ - quickly; ಲೋಲಮ್ಬರುಚೇ - a black bee like splendorous; ಹರೇ - O Hari; ಹರೇಃ - eradicate; ಕ್ಲೇಶಾನ್ - my sufferings;

Translation
O Hari! Thou who has the splendour of a black bee, who are the support of the worlds, Thou who carried out the destruction of Pralambaasura, without delay, quickly eradicate my sufferings.
