શ્લોકઃ
અયિ દેવ પુરા કિલ ત્વયિ સ્વયમુત્તાનશયે સ્તનંધયે ।
પરિજૃંભણતો વ્યપાવૃતે વદને વિશ્વમચષ્ટ વલ્લવી ॥1॥
Meaning
અયિ દેવ - O Lord!; પુરા કિલ - long ago indeed; ત્વયિ સ્વયમ્- - (when) Thou by Thyself; ઉત્તાનશયે - while lying on the back; સ્તનંધયે - and sucking at the breast (of Yashodaa); પરિજૃંભણતઃ - by yawning; વ્યપાવૃતે વદને - in Thy open mouth; વિશ્વમ્-અચષ્ટ - the universe, was seen; વલ્લવી - by the cowherdess (Yashodaa);
Translation
O Lord! Once long ago, as Thou were lying flat on the back, in the lap of Yashodaa and sucking at her breast, Thou yawned. As Thou did so, in Thy open mouth, Thou revealed to her the whole universe.
શ્લોકઃ
પુનરપ્યથ બાલકૈઃ સમં ત્વયિ લીલાનિરતે જગત્પતે ।
ફલસંચયવંચનક્રુધા તવ મૃદ્ભોજનમૂચુરર્ભકાઃ ॥2॥
Meaning
પુનઃ-અપિ-અથ - again also; બાલકૈઃ સમં - with the children; ત્વયિ લીલા-નિરતે - (when) Thou were engrossed in play; જગત્પતે - O Lord of the Universe!; ફલ-સંચય- - in collecting the fruits; વંચન-ક્રુધા - being cheated and angered (the children); તવ મૃદ્-ભોજનમ્- - Thy eating of sand; ઊચુઃ-અર્ભકાઃ - reported the children;
Translation
O Lord of the Universe! Again once, as Thou were playing with other children, Thou cheated them in collecting fruits. Angered at this, they reported to Thy mother that Thou had eaten mud.
શ્લોકઃ
અયિ તે પ્રલયાવધૌ વિભો ક્ષિતિતોયાદિસમસ્તભક્ષિણઃ ।
મૃદુપાશનતો રુજા ભવેદિતિ ભીતા જનની ચુકોપ સા ॥3॥
Meaning
અયિ - O (Thou); તે પ્રલય-અવધૌ - Thee at the time of deluge; વિભો - O Lord!; ક્ષિતિ-તોય-આદિ- - earth water etc; સમસ્ત-ભક્ષિણઃ - everything consuming; મૃદ્-ઉપાશનતઃ - by eating mud,; રુજા ભવેત્-ઇતિ - sickness may be, thus; ભીતા જનની - (Thy) frightened mother; ચુકોપ સા - she became angry;
Translation
O Lord! At the time of the deluge Thou do consume everything earth water etc. Yet Thy mother was frightened that Thou may fall sick by eating mud and so she became angry.
શ્લોકઃ
અયિ દુર્વિનયાત્મક ત્વયા કિમુ મૃત્સા બત વત્સ ભક્ષિતા ।
ઇતિ માતૃગિરં ચિરં વિભો વિતથાં ત્વં પ્રતિજજ્ઞિષે હસન્ ॥4॥
Meaning
અયિ દુર્વિનયાત્મક - O naughty (one); ત્વયા કિમુ - by you was it; મૃત્સા બત - that mud indeed; વત્સ ભક્ષિતા - O son, was eaten; ઇતિ માતૃગિરં - such the words of Thy mother; ચિરં વિભો - for a long time O Lord; વિતથાં ત્વં - as false, Thee; પ્રતિજજ્ઞિષે હસન્ - asserted laughingly;
Translation
O you naughty one! Is it that you have eaten mud O son!' O Lord! These words of Thy mother, for a long time, Thou kept on denying and laughingly asserted that Thou had not done so.
શ્લોકઃ
અયિ તે સકલૈર્વિનિશ્ચિતે વિમતિશ્ચેદ્વદનં વિદાર્યતામ્ ।
ઇતિ માતૃવિભર્ત્સિતો મુખં વિકસત્પદ્મનિભં વ્યદારયઃ ॥5॥
Meaning
અયિ તે - O Boy! Of you; સકલૈઃ-વિનિશ્ચિતે - by every one asserted; વિમતિઃ-ચેત્- - is, if disagreed; વદનં વિદાર્યતામ્ - mouth (please) open; ઇતિ માતૃ-વિભર્ત્સિતઃ - thus by mother reprimanded; મુખં વિકસત્-પદ્મ-નિભમ્ - the mouth opening, lotus like; વ્યદારયઃ - (Thou) opened;
Translation
O Boy! If you deny what all the others are saying, please open your mouth.' Thus reprimanded by Thy mother, Thou opened Thy mouth as a lotus in full bloom.
શ્લોકઃ
અપિ મૃલ્લવદર્શનોત્સુકાં જનનીં તાં બહુ તર્પયન્નિવ ।
પૃથિવીં નિખિલાં ન કેવલં ભુવનાન્યપ્યખિલાન્યદીદૃશઃ ॥6॥
Meaning
અપિ મૃલ્-લવ - even a mud trace; દર્શન-ઉત્સુકાં - eager to see; જનનીં તાં - to mother that; બહુ તર્પયન્-ઇવ - very much trying to please as though,; પૃથિવીં નિખિલાં - the earth whole; ન કેવલં - not only; ભુવનાન્-અપિ- - the other worlds also; અખિલાન્-અદીદૃશઃ - entirely showed;
Translation
Thy mother was eager to see just a trace of mud in Thy mouth. As though to please her, and to give her abundant satisfaction Thou showed her in Thy mouth not only this whole earth but the entire universe.
શ્લોકઃ
કુહચિદ્વનમંબુધિઃ ક્વચિત્ ક્વચિદભ્રં કુહચિદ્રસાતલમ્ ।
મનુજા દનુજાઃ ક્વચિત્ સુરા દદૃશે કિં ન તદા ત્વદાનને ॥7॥
Meaning
કુહચિત્-વનમ્- - somewhere the forests; અંબુધિઃ ક્વચિત્ - the oceans somewhere; ક્વચિત્-અભ્રં - somewhere the sky; કુહચિત્-રસાતલમ્ - somewhere the Rasaatala; મનુજાઃ દનુજાઃ - human beings, demons; ક્વચિત્ સુરાઃ - somewhere the devas; દદૃશે કિં ન - seen what not was; તદા ત્વત્-આનને - at that time in Thy mouth;
Translation
At that time, in Thy mouth what not was seen by Yashodaa? Somewhere the forests and oceans, somewhere the skies and Rasaatala, human beings and demons, gods and devas!
શ્લોકઃ
કલશાંબુધિશાયિનં પુનઃ પરવૈકુંઠપદાધિવાસિનમ્ ।
સ્વપુરશ્ચ નિજાર્ભકાત્મકં કતિધા ત્વાં ન દદર્શ સા મુખે ॥8॥
Meaning
કલશ-અંબુધિ-શાયિનં - in the milk ocean, the recliner; પુનઃ પર-વૈકુંઠપદ- - as the Paramaatamaa, in the Vaikuntha abode; અધિવાસિનમ્ - the resident; સ્વ-પુરઃ-ચ - in front of herself; નિજ-અર્ભક-આત્મકં - as her own son; કતિધા - in how many ways; ત્વાં ન દદર્શ - Thee did not see; સા મુખે - she in (Thy) mouth;
Translation
Yashodaa saw in Thy mouth the recliner in the milk ocean. Again she saw Paramaatamaa, the resident of the Vaikunth abode. Then she saw Thee as her son in front of her. In how many different ways did she not see Thee.
શ્લોકઃ
વિકસદ્ભુવને મુખોદરે નનુ ભૂયોઽપિ તથાવિધાનનઃ ।
અનયા સ્ફુટમીક્ષિતો ભવાનનવસ્થાં જગતાં બતાતનોત્ ॥9॥
Meaning
વિકસત્-ભુવને - revealing the worlds; મુખ-ઉદરે - in the inside of the mouth; નનુ ભૂયઃ-અપિ - indeed then again also; તથા-વિધ-આનનઃ - that same type of face; અનયા સ્ફુટમ્-ઈક્ષિતઃ - by her was clearly seen; ભવાન્-અનવસ્થાં - Thou as the infinitude; જગતાં - of the universe; બત્-આતનોત્ - definitely expounded;
Translation
In the cavity of Thy mouth she saw all the worlds, where even Thou were present with Thy mouth open, once again, in which again all the worlds were seen; and so on endlessly. This definitely expounded Thou as the infinitude of the universe.
શ્લોકઃ
ધૃતતત્ત્વધિયં તદા ક્ષણં જનનીં તાં પ્રણયેન મોહયન્ ।
સ્તનમંબ દિશેત્યુપાસજન્ ભગવન્નદ્ભુતબાલ પાહિ મામ્ ॥10॥
Meaning
ધૃત-તત્ત્વ-ધિયં - holding the reality in the mind; તદા ક્ષણં - at that time for a moment; જનનીં તાં - to the mother; પ્રણયેન મોહયન્ - by affection enchanting (deluding); સ્તનમ્-અંબ દિશ- - breast milk O Mother give'; ઇતિ-ઉપાસજન્ - thus embracing; ભગવન્- - O Lord!; અદ્ભુત-બાલ - O Wonderful Child!; પાહિ મામ્ - protect me;
Translation
At that time for a moment, Yashodaa had a flash of illumination. Thou with affection deluded her and clung to her, calling her 'Mother' and demanded to be suckled. O Lord! Thou the Wondrous Child! Deign to protect me.
