അഷ്ടാവക്ര ഗീതാ is a 20-chapter dialogue of direct അദ്വൈത that keeps cutting through the same illusion: taking the body-mind to be the Self. It does not try to decorate life with new beliefs; it tries to remove the deeper misunderstanding that makes life feel like a constant struggle for security.
So far the dialogue has moved through a clear arc. Chapter 1 answers ജനക's questions about ജ്ഞാന, മുക്തി, and വൈരാഗ്യ by warning against compulsive attachment to വിഷയs while pointing to the witness. Chapters 2-4 express recognition and then mature it into lived freedom.
Seen as a whole, Chapter 10 is a chapter of "enough." It repeats a single medicine: recognize what has never truly satisfied, stop fueling it, and let the mind rest. തൃഷ്ണാ (craving-thirst) is named as the essence of bondage, and the chapter says that rest comes not by rearranging the world again, but by ending the compulsion that keeps you rearranging.
അഷ്ടാവക്ര ഉവാച ॥
വിഹായ വൈരിണം കാമമര്ഥം ചാനര്ഥസംകുലമ് ।
ധര്മമപ്യേതയോര്ഹേതും സർവത്രാനാദരം കുരു ॥ 10-1॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Ashtavakra said: Abandon craving, the enemy, and abandon wealth that is entangled with harm. Even ധര്മ, when treated as a means for craving and wealth, do not treat as your ultimate. Practice non-importance toward these everywhere.
സ്വപ്നേംദ്രജാലവത് പശ്യ ദിനാനി ത്രീണി പംച വാ ।
മിത്രക്ഷേത്രധനാഗാരദാരദായാദിസംപദഃ ॥ 10-2॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
See possessions and supports as dreamlike or like a magic show - lasting only a few days (three, five, or so). Friends, land, wealth, houses, spouses, heirs, and related prosperities are not lasting refuges.
യത്ര യത്ര ഭവേത്തൃഷ്ണാ സംസാരം വിദ്ധി തത്ര വൈ ।
പ്രൌഢവൈരാഗ്യമാശ്രിത്യ വീതതൃഷ്ണഃ സുഖീ ഭവ ॥ 10-3॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Wherever craving arises, know that bondage is there. Taking refuge in mature dispassion, be free of craving and be at ease.
തൃഷ്ണാമാത്രാത്മകോ ബംധസ്തന്നാശോ മോക്ഷ ഉച്യതേ ।
ഭവാസംസക്തിമാത്രേണ പ്രാപ്തിതുഷ്ടിര്മുഹുര്മുഹുഃ ॥ 10-4॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Bondage is nothing but craving; the ending of that craving is called liberation. Merely by non-attachment to worldly becoming, contentment with what comes arises again and again.
ത്വമേകശ്ചേതനഃ ശുദ്ധോ ജഡം വിശ്വമസത്തഥാ ।
അവിദ്യാപി ന കിംചിത്സാ കാ ബുഭുത്സാ തഥാപി തേ ॥ 10-5॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
You alone are pure consciousness; the world is inert and has no independent reality. Even ignorance is nothing - then what is there to know? Yet even so, you still have the urge to know.
രാജ്യം സുതാഃ കലത്രാണി ശരീരാണി സുഖാനി ച ।
സംസക്തസ്യാപി നഷ്ടാനി തവ ജന്മനി ജന്മനി ॥ 10-6॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Kingdoms, children, spouses, bodies, and pleasures - even when you were attached to them - have been lost by you, birth after birth.
അലമര്ഥേന കാമേന സുകൃതേനാപി കര്മണാ ।
ഏഭ്യഃ സംസാരകാംതാരേ ന വിശ്രാംതമഭൂന് മനഃ ॥ 10-7॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
Enough of wealth and pleasure, and even of merit-making action. In this wilderness of saMsAra, the mind has found no rest from these.
കൃതം ന കതി ജന്മാനി കായേന മനസാ ഗിരാ ।
ദുഃഖമായാസദം കര്മ തദദ്യാപ്യുപരമ്യതാമ് ॥ 10-8॥
Translation (ഭാവാര്ഥ):
In how many lifetimes have you not done exhausting, pain-giving actions by body, mind, and speech? Let that compulsive labor stop, even now.
