ശ്ലോകഃ
സ്ഫുരത്പരാനംദരസാത്മകേന ത്വയാ സമാസാദിതഭോഗലീലാഃ ।
അസീമമാനംദഭരം പ്രപന്നാ മഹാംതമാപുര്മദമംബുജാക്ഷ്യഃ ॥1॥
Meaning
സ്ഫുരത്-പരാനംദ- - resplendent of the supreme bliss; രസാത്മകേന - and the pure Essence embodied; ത്വയാ - with Thee (who were); സമാസാദിത- - made to participate; ഭോഗലീലാഃ - in the pleasant sport; അസീമമ്- - (in) boundless; ആനംദഭരം - bliss (being); പ്രപന്നാ മഹാംതമ്- - immersed (they), great; ആപുഃ-മദമ്- - acquired pride; അംബുജ-ആക്ഷ്യഃ - the lotus eyed (damsels);
Translation
The lotus eyed damsels were allowed to participate in the pleasant sport with Thee, the very pure embodied essence of the resplendent supreme bliss. They were immersed in boundless bliss and so they fell victim to great pride and self importance.
ശ്ലോകഃ
നിലീയതേഽസൌ മയി മയ്യമായം രമാപതിർവിശ്വമനോഭിരാമഃ ।
ഇതി സ്മ സർവാഃ കലിതാഭിമാനാ നിരീക്ഷ്യ ഗോവിംദ് തിരോഹിതോഽഭൂഃ ॥2॥
Meaning
നിലീയതേ- - is engrossed; അസൌ മയി - this (Krishna) in me; മയി-അമായം - in me, without doubt; രമാപതിഃ- - the Consort of Laxmi,; വിശ്വ-മനോഭിരാമഃ - the captivator of the entire universe's mind; ഇതി സ്മ സർവാഃ - thus indeed all of them; കലിതാ-അഭിമാനാഃ - full of pride; നിരീക്ഷ്യ - seeing (them thus); ഗോവിംദ് - O Govind!; തിരോഹിതഃ-അഭൂഃ - (Thou) disappeared;
Translation
This Krishna the Consort of Laxmi and the captivator of the minds of the whole world, is engrossed in me.' Full of pride, all of them indeed thought thus. O Govinda! Being aware of this, Thou disappeared from their midst.
ശ്ലോകഃ
രാധാഭിധാം താവദജാതഗർവാമതിപ്രിയാം ഗോപവധൂം മുരാരേ ।
ഭവാനുപാദായ ഗതോ വിദൂരം തയാ സഹ സ്വൈരവിഹാരകാരീ ॥3॥
Meaning
രാധാ-അഭിധാം - Raadhaa named; താവത് - till then; അജാത-ഗർവാമ്- - (who) did not rear pride; അതി-പ്രിയാം - very dear; ഗോപവധൂമ് - the Gopikaa; മുരാരേ - O Slayer of Mura!; ഭവാന്-ഉപാദായ - Thou taking her along; ഗതഃ വിദൂരം - went far away; തയാ സഹ - with her; സ്വൈര-വിഹാര-കാരീ - at will sporting (with her);
Translation
O Slayer of Mura! One of the Gopikaas, Raadhaa by name, till then had reared no pride. Thou took her along with Thee far away and sported with her at will.
ശ്ലോകഃ
തിരോഹിതേഽഥ ത്വയി ജാതതാപാഃ സമം സമേതാഃ കമലായതാക്ഷ്യഃ ।
വനേ വനേ ത്വാം പരിമാര്ഗയംത്യോ വിഷാദമാപുര്ഭഗവന്നപാരമ് ॥4॥
Meaning
തിരോഹിതേ- - disappeared; അഥ ത്വയി - then (when) Thou; ജാത-താപാഃ - full of suffering; സമം സമേതാഃ - together coming; കമലായത-ആക്ഷ്യഃ - the lotus eyed ones; വനേ വനേ ത്വാം - in the various forests, Thee; പരിമാര്ഗയംത്യഃ - looking for; വിഷാദമ്-ആപുഃ- - great grief felt; ഭഗവന്- - O Lord!; അപാരമ് - intense;
Translation
O Lord! When Thou disappeared, the lotus eyed damsels, full of suffering the pangs of separation gathered together, looking around for Thee in the various forests from place to place in intense and utmost grief.
ശ്ലോകഃ
ഹാ ചൂത ഹാ ചംപക കര്ണികാര ഹാ മല്ലികേ മാലതി ബാലവല്യഃ ।
കിം വീക്ഷിതോ നോ ഹൃദയൈകചോരഃ ഇത്യാദി താസ്ത്വത്പ്രവണാ വിലേപുഃ ॥5॥
Meaning
ഹാ ചൂത - O mango; ഹാ ചംപക - O champaka; കര്ണികാര - Karnikaara; ഹാ മല്ലികേ - O Mallika; മാലതി - Maalati; ബാലവല്യഃ - O tender creepers; കിം വീക്ഷിതഃ - what has been seen (by you all); നഃ-ഹൃദയ-ഏക-ചോരഃ - our hearts' the one stealer; ഇതി-ആദി താഃ- - thus etc they; ത്വത്-പ്രവണാഃ - to Thee totally devoted; വിലേപുഃ - lamented;
Translation
" O mango, O champaka, O Karnikaar, O Mallika, O maalati, O tender creepers! Did you see the one who has stolen our hearts?' Thus the totally devoted ones asked the fruit and flower trees and lamented.
ശ്ലോകഃ
നിരീക്ഷിതോഽയം സഖി പംകജാക്ഷഃ പുരോ മമേത്യാകുലമാലപംതീ ।
ത്വാം ഭാവനാചക്ഷുഷി വീക്ഷ്യ കാചിത്താപം സഖീനാം ദ്വിഗുണീചകാര ॥6॥
Meaning
നിരീക്ഷിതഃ- - is seen; അയം സഖി - this, O friend; പംകജാക്ഷഃ - lotus eyed one (Krishna); പുരഃ മമ-ഇതി- - in front of me, thus; ആകുലമ്- - excitedly; ആലപംതീ - saying; ത്വാം - Thee; ഭാവനാ-ചക്ഷുഷി - (in) imaginative vision (eyes); വീക്ഷ്യ കാചിത് - seeing, some (women); താപം സഖീനാം - sufferings of the friends; ദ്വിഗുണീ-ചകാര - double made;
Translation
O Friend! This lotus eyed Krishna, I see before me,' excitedly declared one of the Gopikas, seeing Thee with her imaginative vision. This only doubled the sufferings of her friends.
ശ്ലോകഃ
ത്വദാത്മികാസ്താ യമുനാതടാംതേ തവാനുചക്രുഃ കില ചേഷ്ടിതാനി ।
വിചിത്യ ഭൂയോഽപി തഥൈവ മാനാത്ത്വയാ വിമുക്താം ദദൃശുശ്ച രാധാമ് ॥7॥
Meaning
ത്വത്-ആത്മികാഃ-താ - with Thee identified, they; യമുനാ-തട-അംതേ - on the banks of the Yamunaa; തവ-അനുചക്രുഃ - Thy imitated; കില ചേഷ്ടിതാനി - indeed (Thy) deeds; വിചിത്യ - searching; ഭൂയഃ-അപി - all over again; തഥാ-ഏവ മാനാത്- - and also because of pride; ത്വയാ വിമുക്താം - from Thee separated; ദദൃശുഃ-ച - (they) saw and; രാധാമ് - Raadhaa;
Translation
They had completely identified themselves with Thee. So, on the banks of the Yamunaa river they enacted and imitated Thy deeds. They went about searching for Thee all over again and they saw Raadhaa who was also separated from Thee because of pride.
ശ്ലോകഃ
തതഃ സമം താ വിപിനേ സമംതാത്തമോവതാരാവധി മാര്ഗയംത്യഃ ।
പുനർവിമിശ്രാ യമുനാതടാംതേ ഭൃശം വിലേപുശ്ച ജഗുര്ഗുണാംസ്തേ ॥8॥
Meaning
തതഃ സമം താഃ - then together all of them; വിപിനേ സമംതാത്- - in the forest from end to end; തമോവതാര-അവധി - till the darkness descending; മാര്ഗയംത്യഃ - searching; പുനഃ-വിമിശ്രാ - again coming together; യമുനാ-തട-അംതേ - on the banks of the Yamunaa; ഭൃശം വിലേപുഃ- - intensely lamented; ച ജഗുഃ- - and sang; ഗുണാന്-തേ - Thy glories;
Translation
Together all of them went searching for Thee from end to end in the forest till it was dark. Again coming together on the banks of Yamunaa, they intensely lamented and spoke to each other about Thy glories and excellences.
ശ്ലോകഃ
തഥാ വ്യഥാസംകുലമാനസാനാം വ്രജാംഗനാനാം കരുണൈകസിംധോ ।
ജഗത്ത്രയീമോഹനമോഹനാത്മാ ത്വം പ്രാദുരാസീരയി മംദഹാസീ ॥9॥
Meaning
തഥാ വ്യഥാ-സംകുല- - thus pain overcome; മാനസാനാമ് - minded; വ്രജാംഗനാനാമ് - of the Vraja women; കരുണൈകസിംധോ - O Thou the ocean of mercy!; ജഗത്-ത്രയീ-മോഹന- - the infatuator of the three world's Cupid; മോഹന-ആത്മാ - (Thee) his captivator; ത്വം - Thee; പ്രാദുഃ-ആസീഃ- - appeared in front; അയി - O Thou; മംദഹാസീ - smiling softly;
Translation
O ocean of mercy! O charmer of Cupid who charms the three worlds! Thou then appeared smiling softly in front of the Vraja women whose minds were overcome by grief and pain.
ശ്ലോകഃ
സംദിഗ്ധസംദര്ശനമാത്മകാംതം ത്വാം വീക്ഷ്യ തന്വ്യഃ സഹസാ തദാനീമ് ।
കിം കിം ന ചക്രുഃ പ്രമദാതിഭാരാത് സ ത്വം ഗദാത് പാലയ മാരുതേശ ॥10॥
Meaning
സംദിഗ്ധ- - doubtful of; സംദര്ശനമ്- - seeing (meeting) Thee; ആത്മ-കാംതമ് - their own beloved; ത്വാം വീക്ഷ്യ - Thee seeing; തന്വ്യഃ സഹസാ - the damsels suddenly; തദാനീമ് - then; കിം കിമ് - what what; ന ചക്രുഃ - not did; പ്രമദ-അതി-ഭാരാത് - by intense joyful state; സ ത്വമ് - that such Thou; ഗദാത് പാലയ - from misery save me; മാരുതേശ - O Lord of Guruvaayur;
Translation
The beautiful women who were doubtful of seeing Thee, when they suddenly saw their own beloved in front, in what all ways did they not show their intensity of joy? That Thou O Lord of Guruvaayur! Save me from misery.
