bhooya Eva mahaabaahO sha‍RRiNu mE paramaM vachaH ।
yattE.ahaM preeyamaaNaaya vakshhyaami hitakaamyayaa ॥ 1 ॥

Meaning
shree-bhagavaan uvaaca — the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; bhooyaH — again; Eva — certainly; mahaa-baahO — O mighty-armed; shRRiNu — just hear; mE — My; paramam — supreme; vacaH — instruction; yat — that which; tE — to you; aham — I; preeyamaaNaaya — thinking you dear to Me; vakshhyaami — say; hita-kaamyayaa — for your benefit.

Translation
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjuna. Because you are My dear friend, for your benefit I shall speak to you further, giving knowledge that is better than what I have already explained.

na mE viduH suragaNaaH prabhavaM na maharshhayaH ।
ahamaadirhi dEvaanaaM maharshheeNaaM cha sarvashaH ॥ 2 ॥

Translation
Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages.

yO maamajamanaadiM cha vEtti lOkamahEshvaram ।
asammooDhaH sa martyEshhu sarvapaapaiH pramuchyatE ॥ 3 ॥

Meaning
yaH — anyone who; maam — Me; ajam — unborn; anaadim — without beginning; ca — also; vEtti — knows; lOka — of the planets; mahaa-eeshvaram — the supreme master; asammooDhaH — undeluded; saH — he; martyEshhu — among those subject to death; sarva-paapaiH — from all sinful reactions; pramucyatE — is delivered.

Translation
He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds – he only, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.

buddhirjjhNaanamasammOhaH kshhamaa satyaM damaH shamaH ।
sukhaM duHkhaM bhavO.abhaavO bhayaM chaabhayamEva cha ॥ 4 ॥
ahiMsaa samataa tushhTistapO daanaM yashO.ayashaH ।
bhavanti bhaavaa bhootaanaaM matta Eva pRRithagvidhaaH ॥ 5 ॥

Translation
Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, control of the mind, happiness and distress, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy – all these various qualities of living beings are created by Me alone.

maharshhayaH sap‍ta poorvE chatvaarO manavastathaa ।
madbha‍aavaa maanasaa jaataa yEshhaaM lOka imaaH prajaaH ॥ 6 ॥

Meaning
mahaa-RRishhayaH — the great sages; sapta — seven; poorvE — before; catvaaraH — four; manavaH — Manus; tathaa — also; mat-bhaavaaH — born of Me; maanasaaH — from the mind; jaataaH — born; yEshhaam — of them; lOkE — in the world; imaaH — all this; prajaaH — population.

Translation
The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] come from Me, born from My mind, and all the living beings populating the various planets descend from them.

EtaaM vibhootiM yOgaM cha mama yO vEtti tattvataH ।
sO.avikalpEna yOgEna yujyatE naatra saMshayaH ॥ 7 ॥

Meaning
Etaam — all this; vibhootim — opulence; yOgam — mystic power; ca — also; mama — of Mine; yaH — anyone who; vEtti — knows; tattvataH — factually; saH — he; avikalpEna — without division; yOgEna — in devotional service; yujyatE — is engaged; na — never; atra — here; saṁshayaH — doubt.

Translation
One who is factually convinced of this opulence and mystic power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt.

shlOkaH
ahaM sarvasya prabhavO mattaH sarvaM pravartatE ।
iti matvaa bhajantE maaM budhaa bhaavasamanvitaaH ॥ 8 ॥

Meaning
aham — I; sarvasya — of all; prabhavaH — the source of generation; mattaH — from Me; sarvam — everything; pravartatE — emanates; iti — thus; matvaa — knowing; bhajantE — become devoted; maam — unto Me; budhaaH — the learned; bhaava-samanvitaaH — with great attention.

Translation
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.

machchittaa madga‍tapraaNaa bOdhayantaH parasparam ।
kathayantashcha maaM nityaM tushhyanti cha ramanti cha ॥ 9 ॥

Meaning
mat-cittaaH — their minds fully engaged in Me; mat-gata-praaNaaH — their lives devoted to Me; bOdhayantaH — preaching; parasparam — among themselves; kathayantaH — talking; ca — also; maam — about Me; nityam — perpetually; tushhyanti — become pleased; ca — also; ramanti — enjoy transcendental bliss; ca — also.

Translation
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.

tEshhaaM satatayuktaanaaM bhajataaM preetipoorvakam ।
dadaami buddhiyOgaM taM yEna maamupayaanti tE ॥ 10 ॥

tEshhaam — unto them; satata-yuktaanaam — always engaged; bhajataam — in rendering devotional service; preeti-poorvakam — in loving ecstasy; dadaami — I give; buddhi-yOgam — real intelligence; tam — that; yEna — by which; maam — unto Me; upayaanti — come; tE — they.

Translation
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.

tEshhaamEvaanukampaarthamahamajjhNaanajaM tamaH ।
naashayaamyaatmabhaavasthO jjhNaanadeepEna bhaasvataa ॥ 11 ॥

Meaning
tEshhaam — for them; Eva — certainly; anukampaa-artham — to show special mercy; aham — I; ajjhNaana-jam — due to ignorance; tamaH — darkness; naashayaami — dispel; aatma-bhaava — within their hearts; sthaH — situated; jjhNaana — of knowledge; deepEna — with the lamp; bhaasvataa — glowing.

Translation
To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

Translation
Arjuna said: You are the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, transcendental, original person, the unborn, the greatest. All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala and Vyāsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.

shlOkaH
sarvamEtadRRitaM manyE yanmaaM vadasi kEshava ।
na hi tE bhagavanvyaktiM vidurdEvaa na daanavaaH ॥ 14 ॥

Meaning
sarvam — all; Etat — this; RRitam — truth; manyE — I accept; yat — which; maam — unto me; vadasi — You tell; kEshava — O Kṛṣṇa; na — never; hi — certainly; tE — Your; bhagavan — O Personality of Godhead; vyaktim — revelation; viduH — can know; dEvaaH — the demigods; na — nor; daanavaaH — the demons.

Translation
O Kṛṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. Neither the demigods nor the demons, O Lord, can understand Your personality.

svayamEvaatmanaatmaanaM vEttha tvaM purushhOttama ।
bhootabhaavana bhootEsha dEvadEva jagatpatE ॥ 15 ॥

Meaning
svayam — personally; Eva — certainly; aatmanaa — by Yourself; aatmaanam — Yourself; vEttha — know; tvam — You; purushha-uttama — O greatest of all persons; bhoota-bhaavana — O origin of everything; bhoota-eesha — O Lord of everything; dEva-dEva — O Lord of all demigods; jagat-patE — O Lord of the entire universe.

Translation
Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own internal potency, O Supreme Person, origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, Lord of the universe!

vaktumarhasyashEshhENa divyaa hyaatmavibhootayaH ।
yaabhirvibhootibhirlOkaanimaaMstvaM vyaapya tishhThasi ॥ 16 ॥

vaktum — to say; arhasi — You deserve; ashEshhENa — in detail; divyaaH — divine; hi — certainly; aatma — Your own; vibhootayaH — opulences; yaabhiH — by which; vibhootibhiH — opulences; lOkaan — all the planets; imaan — these; tvam — You; vyaapya — pervading; tishhThasi — remain.

Translation
Please tell me in detail of Your divine opulences by which You pervade all these worlds.

kathaM vidyaamahaM yOgiMstvaaM sadaa parichintayan ।
kEshhu kEshhu cha bhaavEshhu chintyO.asi bhagavanmayaa ॥ 17 ॥

katham — how; vidyaam aham — shall I know; yOgin — O supreme mystic; tvaam — You; sadaa — always; paricintayan — thinking of; kEshhu — in which; kEshhu — in which; ca — also; bhaavEshhu — natures; cintyaH asi — You are to be remembered; bhagavan — O Supreme; mayaa — by me.

Translation
O Kṛṣṇa, O supreme mystic, how shall I constantly think of You, and how shall I know You? In what various forms are You to be remembered, O Supreme Personality of Godhead?

vistarENaatmanO yOgaM vibhootiM cha janaardana ।
bhooyaH kathaya tRRip‍tirhi sha‍RRiNvatO naasti mE.amRRitam ॥ 18 ॥

Meaning
vistarENa — in detail; aatmanaH — Your; yOgam — mystic power; vibhootim — opulences; ca — also; jana-ardana — O killer of the atheists; bhooyaH — again; kathaya — describe; tRRiptiH — satisfaction; hi — certainly; shRRiNvataH — hearing; na asti — there is not; mE — my; amRRitam — nectar.

Translation
O Janārdana, again please describe in detail the mystic power of Your opulences. I am never satiated in hearing about You, for the more I hear the more I want to taste the nectar of Your words.

hanta tE kathayishhyaami divyaa hyaatmavibhootayaH ।
praadhaanyataH kurushrEshhTha naastyantO vistarasya mE ॥ 19 ॥

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Yes, I will tell you of My splendorous manifestations, but only of those which are prominent, O Arjuna, for My opulence is limitless.

ahamaadishcha madhyaM cha bhootaanaamanta Eva cha ॥ 20 ॥

Of the Ādityas I am Viṣṇu, of lights I am the radiant sun, of the Maruts I am Marīci, and among the stars I am the moon.

indriyaaNaaM manashchaasmi bhootaanaamasmi chEtanaa ॥ 22 ॥

purOdhasaaM cha mukhyaM maaM viddhi paartha bRRihaspatim ।
sEnaaneenaamahaM skandaH sarasaamasmi saagaraH ॥ 24 ॥

Translation
Of priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Bṛhaspati. Of generals I am Kārttikeya, and of bodies of water I am the ocean.

maharshheeNaaM bhRRigurahaM giraamasmyEkamakshharam ।
yajjhNaanaaM japayajjhNO.asmi sthaavaraaNaaM himaalayaH ॥ 25 ॥

Of the great sages I am Bhṛgu; of vibrations I am the transcendental oṁ. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himālayas.

ashvatthaH sarvavRRikshhaaNaaM dEvarshheeNaaM cha naaradaH ।
gandharvaaNaaM chitrarathaH siddhaanaaM kapilO muniH ॥ 26 ॥

Meaning
ashvatthaH — the banyan tree; sarva-vRRikshhaaNaam — of all trees; dEva-RRishheeNaam — of all the sages amongst the demigods; ca — and; naaradaH — Nārada; gandharvaaNaam — of the citizens of the Gandharva planet; citrarathaH — Citraratha; siddhaanaam — of all those who are perfected; kapilaH muniH — Kapila Muni.

Translation
Of all trees I am the banyan tree, and of the sages among the demigods I am Nārada. Of the Gandharvas I am Citraratha, and among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila.

uch‍chaiHshravasamashvaanaaM viddhi maamamRRitOdbha‍vam ।
airaavataM gajEndraaNaaM naraaNaaM cha naraadhipam ॥ 27 ॥

Meaning
uccaiHshravasam — Uccaiḥśravā; ashvaanaam — among horses; viddhi — know; maam — Me; amRRita-udbhavam — produced from the churning of the ocean; airaavatam — Airāvata; gaja-indraaNaam — of lordly elephants; naraaNaam — among human beings; ca — and; nara-adhipam — the king.

Translation
Of horses know Me to be Uccaiḥśravā, produced during the churning of the ocean for nectar. Of lordly elephants I am Airāvata, and among men I am the monarch.

aayudhaanaamahaM vajraM dhEnoonaamasmi kaamadhuk ।
prajanashchaasmi kandarpaH sarpaaNaamasmi vaasukiH ॥ 28 ॥

Meaning
aayudhaanaam — of all weapons; aham — I am; vajram — the thunderbolt; dhEnoonaam — of cows; asmi — I am; kaama-dhuk — the surabhi cow; prajanaH — the cause for begetting children; ca — and; asmi — I am; kandarpaH — Cupid; sarpaaNaam — of serpents; asmi — I am; vaasukiH — Vāsuki.

Translation
Of weapons I am the thunderbolt; among cows I am the surabhi. Of causes for procreation I am Kandarpa, the god of love, and of serpents I am Vāsuki.

anantashchaasmi naagaanaaM varuNO yaadasaamaham ।
pitRReeNaamaryamaa chaasmi yamaH saMyamataamaham ॥ 29 ॥

Translation
Of the many-hooded Nāgas I am Ananta, and among the aquatics I am the demigod Varuṇa. Of departed ancestors I am Aryamā, and among the dispensers of law I am Yama, the lord of death.

prahlaadashchaasmi daityaanaaM kaalaH kalayataamaham ।
mRRigaaNaaM cha mRRigEndrO.ahaM vainatEyashcha pakshhiNaam ॥ 30 ॥

Meaning
prahlaadaH — Prahlāda; ca — also; asmi — I am; daityaanaam — of the demons; kaalaH — time; kalayataam — of subduers; aham — I am; mRRigaaNaam — of animals; ca — and; mRRiga-indraH — the lion; aham — I am; vainatEyaH — Garuḍa; ca — also; pakshhiNaam — of birds.

Translation
Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlāda, among subduers I am time, among beasts I am the lion, and among birds I am Garuḍa.

pavanaH pavataamasmi raamaH shastrabhRRitaamaham ।
jhashhaaNaaM makarashchaasmi srOtasaamasmi jaahnavee ॥ 31 ॥

Of purifiers I am the wind, of the wielders of weapons I am Rāma, of fishes I am the shark, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges.

adhyaatmavidyaa vidyaanaaM vaadaH pravadataamaham ॥ 32 ॥

Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.

ahamEvaakshhayaH kaalO dhaataahaM vishvatOmukhaH ॥ 33 ॥

Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound. I am also inexhaustible time, and of creators I am Brahmā.

mRRityuH sarvaharashchaahamudbha‍vashcha bhavishhyataam ।
keertiH shreervaak‍cha naareeNaaM smRRitirmEdhaa dhRRitiH kshhamaa ॥ 34 ॥

Translation
I am all-devouring death, and I am the generating principle of all that is yet to be. Among women I am fame, fortune, fine speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience.

maasaanaaM maargasheershhO.ahamRRitoonaaM kusumaakaraH ॥ 35 ॥

Of the hymns in the Sāma Veda I am the Bṛhat-sāma, and of poetry I am the Gāyatrī. Of months I am Mārgaśīrṣa [November-December], and of seasons I am flower-bearing spring.

dyootam — gambling; chalayataam — of all cheats; asmi — I am; tEjaH — the splendor; tEjasvinaam — of everything splendid; aham — I am; jayaH — victory; asmi — I am; vyavasaayaH — enterprise or adventure; asmi — I am; sattvam — the strength; sattva-vataam — of the strong; aham — I am.

Translation
I am also the gambling of cheats, and of the splendid I am the splendor. I am victory, I am adventure, and I am the strength of the strong.

vRRishhNeenaaM vaasudEvO.asmi paaNDavaanaaM dhananjayaH ।
muneenaamapyahaM vyaasaH kaveenaamushanaa kaviH ॥ 37 ॥

vRRishhNeenaam — of the descendants of Vṛṣṇi; vaasudEvaH — Kṛṣṇa in Dvārakā; asmi — I am; paaNDavaanaam — of the Pāṇḍavas; dhanam-jayaH — Arjuna; muneenaam — of the sages; api — also; aham — I am; vyaasaH — Vyāsa, the compiler of all Vedic literature; kaveenaam — of all great thinkers; ushanaa — Uśanā; kaviH — the thinker.

Translation
Of the descendants of Vṛṣṇi I am Vāsudeva, and of the Pāṇḍavas I am Arjuna. Of the sages I am Vyāsa, and among great thinkers I am Uśanā.

daNDO damayataamasmi neetirasmi jigeeshhataam ।
maunaM chaivaasmi guhyaanaaM jjhNaanaM jjhNaanavataamaham ॥ 38 ॥

daNDaH — punishment; damayataam — of all means of suppression; asmi — I am; neetiH — morality; asmi — I am; jigeeshhataam — of those who seek victory; maunam — silence; ca — and; Eva — also; asmi — I am; guhyaanaam — of secrets; jjhNaanam — knowledge; jjhNaana-vataam — of the wise; aham — I am.

Translation
Among all means of suppressing lawlessness I am punishment, and of those who seek victory I am morality. Of secret things I am silence, and of the wise I am the wisdom.

yachcha‍aapi sarvabhootaanaaM beejaM tadahamarjuna ।
na tadasti vinaa yatsyaanmayaa bhootaM charaacharam ॥ 39 ॥

Meaning
yat — whatever; ca — also; api — may be; sarva-bhootaanaam — of all creations; beejam — seed; tat — that; aham — I am; arjuna — O Arjuna; na — not; tat — that; asti — there is; vinaa — without; yat — which; syaat — exists; mayaa — Me; bhootam — created being; cara-acaram — moving and nonmoving.

Translation
Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being – moving or nonmoving – that can exist without Me.

naantO.asti mama divyaanaaM vibhooteenaaM parantapa ।
Eshha tooddEshataH prOktO vibhootErvistarO mayaa ॥ 40 ॥

Meaning
na — nor; antaH — a limit; asti — there is; mama — My; divyaanaam — of the divine; vibhooteenaam — opulences; param-tapa — O conqueror of the enemies; EshhaH — all this; tu — but; uddEshataH — as examples; prOktaH — spoken; vibhootEH — of opulences; vistaraH — the expanse; mayaa — by Me.

Translation
O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.

yadyadvibhootimatsattvaM shreemadoorjitamEva vaa ।
tattadEvaavagachCha tvaM mama tEjO.ashasambhavam ॥ 41 ॥

Meaning
yat yat — whatever; vibhooti — opulences; mat — having; sattvam — existence; shree-mat — beautiful; oorjitam — glorious; Eva — certainly; vaa — or; tat tat — all those; Eva — certainly; avagaccha — must know; tvam — you; mama — My; tEjaH — of the splendor; aṁsha — a part; sambhavam — born of.

Translation
Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor.

athavaa bahunaitEna kiM jjhNaatEna tavaarjuna ।
vishhTabhyaahamidaM kRRitsnamEkaaMshEna sthitO jagat ॥ 42 ॥

Meaning
atha vaa — or; bahunaa — many; EtEna — by this kind; kim — what; jjhNaatEna — by knowing; tava — your; arjuna — O Arjuna; vishhTabhya — pervading; aham — I; idam — this; kRRitsnam — entire; Eka — by one; aṁshEna — part; sthitaH — am situated; jagat — universe.

Translation
But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.
